We have included highand intermediate-mass X-ray binaries, young rotation-powered pulsars and fallback disk-fed black holes in modeling the bright X-ray sources detected. We find that the majority of the X-ray sources are likely to be intermediate-mass X-ray binaries, but for typical binary evolu- tion parameters, the predicted XLF seems to be steeper than observed. We note that the shape of the XLFs depends critically on the existence of XLF break for young populations, and suggest super-Eddington accretion luminosities or the existence of intermediate-mass black holes to account for the high luminosity end and the slope of the XLF in NGC 4038/4039.展开更多

Based on a modified radio ephemeris updated by tool tempo2, we analyze the ~15 yr γ-ray data obtained from the Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and detect PSR J1740-5340B's γ-ray pulsation at a confidence level of ~4σ with a weighted H-test value of ~26. By performing a phase-resolved analysis, the γ-ray luminosity in on-pulse interval of PSR J1740-5340B is L_(γ)~ 3.8 × 10^(33) erg s^(-1) using NGC 6397's distance of 2.48 kpc. And γ-rays from the on-pulse part of PSR J1740-5340B contribute ~90% of the total observed γ-ray emissions from NGC 6397. No significant γ-ray pulsation of another MSP J1740-5340A in the GC is detected.Considering that the previous four cases of MSPs in GCs, more data in γ-ray, X-ray, and radio are encouraged to finally confirm the γ-ray emissions from MSP J1740-5340B, especially starving for a precise ephemeris.展开更多

The targets include known GCs and candidates selected from the literature, as well as new candidates selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS). Analysis shows that 356 of them are likely GCs with various confidence levels, while the remaining ones turn out to be background galaxies and quasars, stars and H II regions in M31 or foreground Galactic stars. The 356 likely GCs include 298 bona fide GCs and 26 candidates known in the literature. Three candidates, selected from the Revised Bologna Catalog of M31 GCs and candidates(RBC) and one possible cluster from Johnson et al., are confirmed to be bona fide clusters. We search for new GCs in the halo of the M31 among the new candidates selected from the SDSS photometry. Based on radial velocities yielded by LAMOST spectra and visual examination of the SDSS images, we find 28 objects, 5bona fide and 23 likely GCs. Among the five bona fide GCs, three have been recently discovered independently by others, and the remaining 25 are our new identifications, including two bona fide ones. The newly identified objects fall at projected distances ranging from 13 to 265 kpc from M31. Of the two newly discovered bona fide GCs,one is located near M33, probably a GC belonging to M33. The other bona fide GC falls on the Giant Stream with a projected distance of 78 kpc from M31. Of the 23 newly identified likely GCs, one has a projected distance of about 265 kpc from M31 and could be an intergalactic cluster.展开更多

We find that the radial deprojected spectra of Abell 1650 can be marginally fitted by a single-temperature model. In order to study the properties of the central gas, we fit the spectra of the central two regions with a two- temperature model. The fits then become significantly better and the cool gas about 1~2 keV can be connected with the gas cooling. Fitting the central spectrum (r≤1′) by using a cooling flow model with an isothermal component yields a small mass deposition rate of 10-7^+11 M. yr^-1, while the standard cooling flow model can not fit this spectrum satisfactorily except that there exists a cut-off temperature having a level of about 3 keV. From the isothermal model we derive the deprojected electron density profile ne(r), and then together with the deprojected temperature profile the total mass and gas mass fraction of cluster are also determined. We compare the properties of Abell 1650 with those of Abell 1835 (a large cooling flow cluster) and some other clusters, to explore the difference in properties between large and small cooling flow cluster, and what causes the difference in the cooling flow of different clusters. It has been shown that Abell 1835 has a steeper potential well and thus a higher electron density and a lower temperature in its center, indicating that the shape of the gravitational potential well in central region determines the cooling flow rates of clusters. We calculate the potential, internal and radiated energies of these two clusters, and find that the gas energies in both clusters are conserved during the collapsing stage.展开更多

Spectral energy distributions (SEDs) covering 15 intermediate bands are obtained for all sources detected down to V - 20 mag in a field of 58′× 58′. After star-galaxy separation with colorcolor diagrams, a photometric redshift technique is applied to the galaxy sample for further membership determination. The color-magnitude relation is taken as a further restriction of the early-type cluster galaxies. As a result, a list of 198 faint member galaxies is achieved. Based on the newly generated sample of member galaxies, the dynamical substructures, A98N, A98S, and A98W, are investigated in detail. A separate galaxy group, A98X, is also found to the south of the main concentration of A98, which is gravitationally unbound to A98. For 74 spectroscopically confirmed member galaxies, the environmental effect on the star formation history is investigated. The bright galaxies in the core region are found to have shorter time scales of star formation, longer mean stellar ages, and higher interstellar medium metallicities, which can be interpreted in the context of the hierarchical cosmological scenario.展开更多

We transform these intermediate-band photometric data into the photometry in the standard U BV RI broadbands. These M31 GC candidates are selected from the Revised Bologna Catalog (RBC V.3.5), and most of these candidates do not have any photometric data. Therefore, the presented photometric data are a supplement to the RBC V.3.5. We find that 4 out of 61 GCs and GC candidates in RBC V.3.5 do not show any signal on the BATC images at their locations. By applying a linear fit of the distribution in the color-magnitude diagram of blue GCs and GC candidates using data from the RBC V.3.5, in this study, we find the "blue-tilt" of blue M31 GCs with a high confidence at 99.95% or 3.47cr for the confirmed GCs, and 〉 99.99% or 4.87e for GCs and GC candidates.展开更多

Combined with the V and I photometric data from previous literature, we constructed a color-color diagram between J - Ks and V - Ⅰ. By comparing the integrated photometric measurements with evolutionary models, we estimate the ages of these clusters. The results showed that all of these clusters are older than 3 × 109 yr, and among them four are older than 10 Gyr and the other six have intermediate ages between 3 - 8 Gyr. The masses for these outer-halo GCs are from 7.0 × 104 M to 1.02 × 10^6 M. We argued that GC2 and GC3, whose ages, metallicities and distance moduli are almost the same, were accreted from the same satellite galaxy, if they did not form in situ. The statistical results show that the ages and metallicities of these 10 M31 outer-halo GCs do not vary with projected radial position, and a relationship between age and metallicity does not exist.展开更多

We base our reassessment on the clusters' luminosi- ties (an observational quantity) rather than their masses (a derived quantity), and confirm conclusively that the galaxy's starburst-ring clusters--and particularly the youngest subsample, log(t yr-1) ≤7.2- show evidence of a turnover in the cluster luminosity function well above the 90% completeness limit adopted to ensure the reliability of our results. This confirmation emphasizes the unique conundrum posed by this unusual cluster population.展开更多

The duration of the event (> 84 days) allows us to set robust constraints on the mass and location of the microlensing object when combined with the dynamical properties of the Galactic halo, M82 and typical globular clusters. Except for the extremely low probability, the microlensing magnification by MACHO in either the Galactic halo or M82 halo is able to explain the X-ray variability of CXO M82 J095550.2+694047. It is hoped that the lensing hypothesis can be tested soon by measurement of the light curve.展开更多

Our analysis shows that V211 is a typical Algol-type binary and NV358 is a well detached binary system. As the two binaries are definite members of ω Centauri due to their proper motion, we estimated their physical parameters, obtaining M1 = 1.13 4±0.03 M⊙, R1 = 0.98±0.01 R⊙, M2 = 0.33 ±0.01 M⊙ and R2 = 0.92 ±0.01 R⊙ forV211; M1 = 1.304-0.05 M⊙, R1 = 1.03±0.01 R⊙, M2 = 0.58±0.02 M⊙ and R2 = 0.78±0.01 R⊙ for NV358. On the color-magnitude diagram of ω Centauri, V211 is located in the faint blue straggler region and its primary component is more massive than a star at the main-sequence turnoff. Therefore, V211 is a blue straggler and was formed by mass transfer from the secondary component to the primary. The age of NV358 is less than 1.93 Gyr, indicating that it is much younger than the first generation of stars in ω Centaufi. Like NV364 in ω Centaufi, NV358 should be a second-generation binary.展开更多

The cluster's proximity and sparse nature makes it a suitable target for ground-based telescopes. Archive images with time gap of ~ 11.1 years were observed with the wide-field imager (WFI) mosaic cam-era mounted on the ESO 2.2m telescope. The median value of PM error in both components is 0.7masyr^-1 for the stars having V ≤ 20mag. PMs are used to determine membership probabil-ities and to separate field stars from the cluster sample. In electronic form, a membership catalog of 3725 stars with precise coordinates, PMs and BVRI photometry is being provided. One of the possible applications of the catalog is demonstrated by gathering the membership information of the variable stars, blue stragglers and X-ray sources reported earlier in the cluster's region.展开更多

This object, which is a member of the young cluster NGC 7380, has been variously proposed to be a Be star, a D-type symbiotic and a Herbig Ae/Be star in separate studies. Here we present optical spectroscopy, near-IR photometry and narrow band Hα imaging of the nebulosity in its environment. Analysis of all these results, including the spectral energy distribution constructed from available data, strongly indicate the source to be a Herbig Ae/Be star. The star is found to be accompanied by a nebulosity with an interesting structure. A bow-shock shaped structure, similar to a cometary nebula, is seen very close to the star with its apex oriented towards the photoionizing source of this region (i.e. the star DH Cep). An interesting spectroscopic finding, from the forbidden [StI] 6716, 6731A and [OI] 6300A lines, is the detection of a blue-shifted high velocity outflow (200 -t-50 km s-1) from the star.展开更多

It has been shown that Abell 1835 has a steeper potential well and thus a higher electron density and a lower temperature in its center, indicating that the shape of the gravitational potential well in central region determines the cooling flow rates of clusters. We calculate the potential, internal and radiated energies of these two clusters, and find that the gas energies in both clusters are conserved during the collapsing stage.

文摘An optical photometric observation with the Beijing-Arizona-Taiwan- Connecticut (BATC) multicolor system is carried out for A98 (z =0.104), a galaxy cluster with two large enhancements in X-ray surface brightness. The bright galaxies in the core region are found to have shorter time scales of star formation, longer mean stellar ages, and higher interstellar medium metallicities, which can be interpreted in the context of the hierarchical cosmological scenario.

文摘The acceleration of LMXB 4U 1820-30 derived from its orbital-period derivative P_(b)was supposed to be the evidence for an Intermediate-mass black hole(IMBH)in the Galactic globular cluster(GC)NGC 6624.However,we find that the anomalous P_(b)is mainly due to the gravitational wave emission, rather than the acceleration in cluster potential.Using the standard structure models of GCs,we simulate acceleration distributions for pulsars in the central region of the cluster.By fitting the acceleration of J1823-3021 A with the simulated distribution profiles(maximum values),it is suggested that an IMBH with mass M■950_(-350)^(+550)M_(⊙) may reside in the cluster center. We further show that the second period derivative P of J1823-3021 A is probably due to the gravitational perturbation of a nearby star.

文摘We present the photometry of 30 globular clusters (GCs) and GC candidates in 15 intermediate-band filters covering the wavelength region from - 3000 to 10000A using the archival CCD images of M31 observed as part of the Beijing - Arizona - Taiwan - Connecticut (BATC) Multicolor Sky Survey. By applying a linear fit of the distribution in the color-magnitude diagram of blue GCs and GC candidates using data from the RBC V.3.5, in this study, we find the "blue-tilt" of blue M31 GCs with a high confidence at 99.95% or 3.47cr for the confirmed GCs, and 〉 99.99% or 4.87e for GCs and GC candidates.

文摘We present the first photometric results in J, H and Ks from 2MASS (Two Micron All Sky Survey) imaging of 10 classical globular clusters (GCs) in the far outer regions of M31. The statistical results show that the ages and metallicities of these 10 M31 outer-halo GCs do not vary with projected radial position, and a relationship between age and metallicity does not exist.

文摘We re-examine the properties of the star cluster population in the circumnuclear starburst ring in the face-on spiral galaxy NGC 7742, whose young cluster mass function has been reported to exhibit significant deviations from the canonical power law. This confirmation emphasizes the unique conundrum posed by this unusual cluster population.

文摘We explore the possibility of attributing the recent discovery of the variable hard X-ray source CXO M82 J095550.2+694047 in M82 to the gravitational magnification by an intervening stellar object along the line of sight acting as a microlens. It is hoped that the lensing hypothesis can be tested soon by measurement of the light curve.

文摘We analyzed the B and V light curves of two EA-type binaries V211 and NV358 for the first time using the Wilson-Devinney code. Like NV364 in ω Centaufi, NV358 should be a second-generation binary.

文摘A rarely studied open cluster,King 1 is observed using the 1.3-m telescope equipped with a 2 k×4 k CCD at Vainu Bappu Observatory,India. We analyze the photometric data obtained from CCD observations in both B and V bands.Out of 132 detected stars in the open cluster King 1 field,we have identified four stellar variables, and two among them are reported as newly detected binary systems. The parallax values from Gaia DR2 suggest that the open cluster King 1 is in the background of these two detected binary systems, falling along the same line of sight, giving rise to different parallax values.Periodogram analysis was carried out using Phase Dispersion Minimization(PDM)and the Lomb-Scargle(LS)method for all the detected variables.PHysics Of Eclipsing Binari Es(PHOEBE)is extensively employed to model various stellar parameters of both the detected binary systems.Based on the modeling results obtained from this work, one of the binary systems is reported for the first time as an Eclipsing Detached(ED)and the other as an Eclipsing Contact(EC)binary of W-type W UMa.

文摘Using astrometric techniques developed by Anderson et al., we determine proper motions (PMs) in the ~ 14.60 × 16.53 arcmin^2 area of the kinematically "thick-disk" globular cluster M 12. One of the possible applications of the catalog is demonstrated by gathering the membership information of the variable stars, blue stragglers and X-ray sources reported earlier in the cluster's region.

文摘We present a study of the star 2MASS J22472238+5801214 with the aim of identifying its true nature which has hitherto been uncertain. An interesting spectroscopic finding, from the forbidden [StI] 6716, 6731A and [OI] 6300A lines, is the detection of a blue-shifted high velocity outflow (200 -t-50 km s-1) from the star.
