In homogeneous media, N,N-Dimethylacrylamide (DMA) was grafted copolymerization to cellulose by a metal-catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) process. First, cellulose was dissolved in DMAc/LiCl system, and it reacted with 2-bromoisobutyloyl bromide (BiBBr) to produce macroinitiator (cell-BiB). Then DMA was polymerized to the cellulose backbone in a homogeneous DMSO solution in presence of the cell-BiB. Characterization with FT-IR, NMR, and GPC measurements showed that there obtained a graft copolymer with cellulose backbone and PDMA side chains (cell-PDMA) in well-defined structure. The proteins adsorption studies showed that the cellulose membranes modified by the as-prepared cell-PDMA copolymer owns good protein adsorption resistancet. 展开更多

Recyclable polymers offer a great opportunity to address the environmental issues of plastics.Herein,functionalization of recyclable polymers,poly((R)-3,4-trans six-membered ring-fused GBL)(P((R)-M)),were reported via end-group modifications and block/random copolymerizations.Di-n-butylmagnesium was selected to catalyze ring-opening polymerization(ROP)of(R)-M in the presence of a series of functional alcohols as the initiators.Block/random copolymerizations of(R)-M andε-caprolactone(ε-CL),L-lactide(L-LA)and trimethylene carbonate(TMC)were performed to control the onset decomposition temperature(T_(d)),melting temperature(T_(m))and glass transition temperature(T_(g)).These functionalized recyclable polymers would find broad applications as the sustainable plastics. 展开更多

Ring opening copolymerization of succinic anhydride (SA) with ethylene oxide (EO)was successfully carried out by using a series of aluminum-based catalyst in 1,4-dioxane at62±2℃. The results showed that in-situ AlR_3-H_2O (R=ethyl, iso-butyl) catalysts gavehigher molecular weight (M_w~10~4), while Al(OR)_3 catalysts gave the higher alternatingcopolymer structure with slightly lower molecular weight. The in-situ AlR_3-H_2O systemshave been evaluated in more detail for the reaction which showed the optimum H_2O/Almolar ratio to be 0.5. The copolymers with different composition (F_(SA)/F_(EO)= 36/64to 45/55 mol/mol) were synthesized by using different monomer feed ratio. The melt-ing point (T_m), glass transition temperature (T_g) and enthalpy of fusion (ΔH_f) of thesecopolymers are depended on the copolymer composition and in the range of 87~102℃,-12~-18℃, and 37~66J/g, respectively. The second heating scan of DSC also in-dicated that the higher alternating copolymer was more easily recrystallized. The onsetdecomposition temperature was more than 300℃ under nitrogen and influenced by thecopolymer composition. 展开更多

Solid-state lithium(Li) metal batteries overwhelm the lithium-ion batteries by harvesting high energy from Li metal anode with ultrahigh capacities and gaining excellent safety from solid electrolytes.However,the uncontrollable solvents in solid electrolytes usually aggravate poor interfacial contact with lithium metal anode and deteriorate Li^(+) pathways.Here a copolymeric network-structured ion conductor by rationally integrating cellulose nanofibril as a two-in-one functional material is employed to anchor the solvent.Taking advantages of tightly anchoring of cellulose nanofibril to solvent,the asconstructed quasi-solid polymer-based electrolyte offers rapid Li^(+) transport channels and realizes effective Li-dendrite suppression,which enables high ionic conductivity of 1.93 × 10^(-3)S cm^(-1) at room temperature,long-term Li plating/stripping over 1900 h,and high capacity retention of 99%.This work provides a fresh strategy for creating solid electrolytes that meet both high ionic conductivity and interfacial stability requirements for practical solid-state lithium metal battery. 展开更多

The controlled free radical polymerization of styrene and isoprene initiated with benzoyl peroxide (BPO) in the presence of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidine-N-oxyl (TEMPO) at 125 'C were performed. The obtained polyisoprene and polystyrene homopolymers served as macroinitiators for block copolymerization of isoprene and styrene to synthesize poly- (styrene-b-isoprene) and poly(isoprene-b-styrene) diblock copolymers. Diblock copolymers with well-defined structures as well as controlled and narrow molecular weight distribution were obtained from the lower-mass polystyrene and polyisoprene homopolymers. These copolymers were found to be active as macroinitiators in the synthesis of the poly(styrene-b-isoprene-b-styrene) and poly(isoprene-b-styrene-b-isoprene) triblock copolymers. 1H-NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) were used for the investigation of polymer structure, molecular weight and polydispersity (PD). 展开更多

The efficient copolymerization of olefin with polar monomers using nickel-based catalysts presents a longstanding challenge. In this contribution, three phosphine-benzocyclone ligands and corresponding neutral nickel catalysts(Ni1: Ar = Ph;Ni2: Ar = 2-(C_(6)H_(5))C_(6)H_(4);Ni3: Ar = 2-[2',6'-(Me O)_(2)-C_(6)H3]C_(6)H_(4)) were prepared and applied for the ethylene polymerization and copolymerization with polar monomers without any cocatalyst. The bulky substituent groups in complexes Ni2 and Ni3 contributed to high catalytic activities(up to 7.24×10^(6) and 9.04×10^(6)g·mol Ni^(-1)·h^(-1), respectively), and produced high-molecular-weight polyethylene(Mw up to 545.7 k Da). Complex Ni3 exhibited high activities for ethylene polymerization at the level of 10^(6) g·mol Ni^(-1)·h^(-1) across a wide range from 30 ℃ to 120 ℃, exhibiting excellent high temperature tolerance. These nickel complexes were also effectively employed in the copolymerization of ethylene with methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate and lauryl acrylate, producing copolymers with high molecular weights(Mw up to 80.5 k Da) and high polar monomer incorporation(up to 8.2 mol%). Microstructure analyses revealed that the introduction of large sterically hindered substituents facilitated the incorporation of polar functional units into the polymer backbone. This study demonstrates the potential of these nickel-based catalysts for efficient copolymerization of olefin with polar monomers. 展开更多

Solid polymer electrolytes(SPEs)have emerged as one of the most promising candidates for the construction of solid-state lithium batteries due to their excellent flexibility,scalability,and interface compatibility with electrodes.Herein,a novel all-solid polymer electrolyte(PPLCE)was fabricated by the copolymer network of liquid crystalline monomers and poly(ethylene glycol)dimethacrylate(PEGDMA)acts as a structural frame,combined with poly(ethylene glycol)diglycidyl ether short chain interspersed serving as mobile ion transport entities.The preparaed PPLCEs exhibit excellent mechanical property and out-standing electrochemical performances,which is attributed to their unique three-dimensional cocontinuous structure,characterized by a cross-linked semi-interpenetrating network and an ionic liquid phase,resulting in a distinctive nanostructure with short-range order and long-range disorder.Remarkably,the addition of PEGDMA is proved to be critical to the comprehensive performance of the PPLCEs,which effectively modulates the microscopic morphology of polymer networks and improves the mechanical properties as well as cycling stability of the solid electrolyte.When used in a lithiumion symmetrical battery configuration,the 6 wt%-PPLCE exhibites super stability,sustaining operation for over 2000 h at 30 C,with minimal and consistent overpotential of 50 mV.The resulting Li|PPLCE|LFP solid-state battery demonstrates high discharge specific capacities of 160.9 and 120.1 mA h g^(-1)at current densities of 0.2 and 1 C,respectively.Even after more than 300 cycles at a current density of 0.2 C,it retaines an impressive 73.5%capacity.Moreover,it displayes stable cycling for over 180 cycles at a high current density of 0.5C.The super cycle stability may promote the application for ultralong-life all solid-state lithium metal batteries. 展开更多

The gradient copolymers of acrylic acid and trifluoroethyl methacrylate(coded as P(TFEMAgrad-AA)) were synthesized via reversible addition-fragmentation transfer(RAFT) emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization. The spontaneous batch feeding approach was used to control the gradient chain sequence. Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) analysis revealed that the P(TFEMA-grad-AA) can self-assemble to form spherical micelles, rodlike micelles or vesicles in selective solvents. Morphological transition of the P(TFEMA-grad-AA) micelles was sensitive to the water content of the dioxane/water mixed solvent. More interestingly, Ag nanoparticles(NPs) were encapsulated by the P(TFEMA-grad-AA) micelles during the selfassembly process. The gradient chain sequence made the Ag NPs easily enter the core of the micelles, even when P(TFEMA-grad-AA) had less hydrophobic fluoro-units and more hydrophilic units. TEM images with energy dispersive spectrometer indicated that the nanocomposite micelles consisted of a Ag NPs core and a gradient copolymer shell. 展开更多

Morphology Control of Polymer Microspheres Containing Block Copolymers with Seed Polymerization

Microspheres based on binary polymer blend consisting of polystyrene (PSt), poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), block copolymer comprising PSt and PMMA subunits, and ternary polymer blend consisting of PSt, PMMA, and block copolymer were fabricated by a solvent evaporation method, in which a polymer solution in dichloromethane was dispersed in water phase with the aid of a homogenizer to obtain an O/W emulsion followed by solvent evaporation with agitation to solidify the polymer. In the case of ternary blend, the effect of block copolymer content on the morphology of resulting spheres was investigated. Ternary blends afforded the bi-compartmental morphologies, the intermediate morphology between Janus and core-shell, which was confirmed by TEM observation. Seed polymerization of St or MMA was also carried out utilizing the resulting microspheres as seed particles in order to control the shape, and the surface morphology of particles. The particles with snowman-like morphology were obtained by seed polymerization of St using PSt/PMMA binary blend microspheres as seed particles. Surface roughness was controlled by the polymerization of MMA in the block copolymer seed, and that of St in the ternary blend seed. 展开更多

The copolymerization of 4-vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC) and vinyl acetate (VAC) was carried out in toluene at 75℃ via radical polymerization using 2,2'-azo-bis-(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as an initiator. The random copolymers of poly(4-vinylbenzyl chloride-co-vinyl acetate) (P(VBC-co-VAC)) with number average molecular weight (Mn) from 2000 to 6900, relatively narrow molecular weight distribution (MWD, Mw/Mn ca. 2.0) and with different copolymer composition of 4-vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC) from 17 mol% to 62 mol% could be obtained. The P(VBC-co-VAC) copolymers with an average number of 7 to 13 initiating sites of benzyl chloride per macromolecule could be used for the cationic polymerization of isobutylene (IB). The cationic polymerizations of IB were further conducted by using P(VBC-co-VAC) copolymers as macroinitiators in conjunction with TICl4 at -40℃ in CH2Cl2. The effects of VBC/TiCl4 (molar ratio) on monomer conversion, Mn and MWD of the resultant copolymers were investigated under 3 sets of conditions. It is found that P(VBC-co-VAC)-g-PIB copolymers with relatively narrow MWD (Mw/Mn ca. 2.0) and with terminal tert-chlorine functional groups in branched PIB chains could be successfully synthesized when VBC/TiCl4 (molar ratio) was set in the range from 0.10 to 1.12. The unimodal GPC curve of the P(VBC-co-VAC)-g-PIB copolymers by RI detector was almost in harmony with the GPC curve by UV detector. The TEM image of the P(VBC-co-VAC)-g-PIB copolymer stained by RuO indicated that the copolymer formed a two-phase morphology with P(VBC-co-VAC)-rich domains of 20-100 um in size tethered by PIB branch segments. 展开更多
