Thus, the mass of fine soil, with a diameter of not more than 0.075 mm, is different at different depths. Fine soil is also sensitive to frost heave and thaw settlement. In order to study the effects of non-uniformly distributed fine soil on the mechanical properties of coarse-grained soil of the Shenyang-Dandong Railway, triaxial tests were conducted with three types of specimens, un- dergoing six freeze-thaw cycle numbers (0, 1, 3, 7, 9, 12) and three confining pressures (100, 200, 300 kPa). The freezing temperature is -5 ~C and the thawing temperature is +15 ~C. The stress-strain behavior, static strength, resilient modulus, cohesive force and the angle of internal friction were measured for different tested specimens. As a result, the law of static strength and resilient modulus of different specimens following the increase of freeze-thaw cycles under three confining pressures is obtained. The changing law of cohesive force and friction angle of three specimens following the increase of freeze-thaw cycles is also calculated, and the different results of different specimens are also compared.展开更多

This mathematical model includes correlations representing various modes of mass transport and chemical reactions. To illustrate the application and value of this approach for reactor optimizations, the model is applied to the case of series reactions with a desirable intermediate compound and the risk of degradation of this compound if the process conditions are not optimized. The modeling results show that in such cases, which are very common in practice, replacing the conventional uniform catalyst distribution with a novel non-uniform distribution will significantly improve the performance of the reactor and the production of the desirable compound. Various catalyst distribution options are compared, and a novel non-uniform loading of catalyst is identified that gives a much better performance compared to the conventional approach. The model is versatile and useful for both the design as well as the optimization of the catalytic fixed-bed reactors in a wide variety of reactor and reaction conditions.展开更多

Based on the results, the runoff time is divided into four periods with the similar hydrological variation character. The annual runoff distribution characters in the Dagujia River basin are discussed by using the non-uniform coefficients, concentration degree and concentration period, variation range, etc. The results indicate that: (1) River runoff is very unevenly distributed throughout the year in Dagujia River. About 90% of runoff is in the period from June to October, while the runoff from November to April of the next year is lower. A complete expression for the S/N ratio of a 4-channel A/D non-uniform sampling signal was deduced. First we obtained an expression for the S/N ratio of a 1-channel A/D uniform sampling signal when the sampling frequency was equal to or greater than 2 times the frequency of the sampled signal. Based on the S/N ratio of a 2-channel A/D,alternating,non-uniform sampling signal,we analyzed the distribution of quantitative error using the quantitative error probability density method and the distribution convolution formula. From this the S/N ratio expression of a 4-channel A/D sampling signal was deduced. The simulation result shows that the deduced expression is correct.展开更多

Differing from the two-stream approximate radiation transfer model commonly used in the land surface models, the generalized model takes into account the effect of complicated canopy morphology and inhomogeneous optical properties of leaves on radiation transfer within the canopy. In the model, the total leaf area index (LAI) of the canopy is divided into many layers. At a given layer, the influences of diffuse radiation angle distributions and leaf angle distributions on radiation transfer within the canopy are considered. The derivation of equations serving the model are described in detail, and these can deal with various diffuse radiation transfers in quite broad categories of canopy with quite inhomogeneons vertical structures and uneven leaves with substantially different optical properties of adaxial and abaxial faces of the leaves. The model is used to simulate the radiation transfer for canopies with horizontal leaves to validate the generalized model. Results from the model are compared with those from the two-stream scheme, and differences between these two models are discussed.展开更多

Only one surface of the concrete specimen was exposed to dry condition during the experiment. The results show that differential shrinkage strain occurs in both plain and steel reinforced concrete specimens according to depths from the exposed surface. A higher reinforcement ratio results in a greater restraint against shrinkage of concrete nearby reinforcement rebar and a worse differential shrinkage strain distribution in the concrete specimen. The restraint against shrinkage of concrete becomes lower with the increasing distance from reinforcement rebar. Under the same reinforcement arrangement, a higher free shrinkage of concrete leads to a stronger restraint against shrinkage and a higher shrinkage stress formation in local concrete. The relationship between shrinkage strain and reduction of relative humidity in reinforced concrete structure is far different from that in plain concrete.展开更多

The low-dimensional k-ary n-cubes (or torus) with adaptive wormhole switching have attracted significant research efforts to construct high-performance interconnection networks in contemporary multi-computers. The arrival process and destination distribution of messages have great effects on network performance. With the aim of capturing the characteristics of the realistic traffic pattern and obtaining a deep understanding of the performance behaviour of interconneetion networks, this paper presents an analytical model to investigate the message latency in adaptive-routed wormhole-switched torus networks where there exists hot-spot nodes and the message arrivals follow a batch arrival process. Each generated message has a given probability to be directed to the hot-spot node. The average degree of virtual channel multiplexing is computed by the GE/G/1/V queueing system with finite buffer capacity. We compare analytical results of message latency with those obtained through the simulation experiments in order to validate the accuracy of the derived model.展开更多

The changing law of cohesive force and friction angle of three specimens following the increase of freeze-thaw cycles is also calculated, and the different results of different specimens are also compared.

文摘Heating the whole space, which is currently used in northern China, leads to high energy consumption and substantial pollution.A transition to local heating has the potential to help address this problem. In this paper, the effects of radiator-related parameters(position, power, and size)and room-related parameters(aspect ratio and height)on local heating were studied. Two evaluation indices, the effective coefficient of operative temperature(OTEC)and the effective coefficient of local heating(LHEC),were proposed. In addition, the heat source-control core-area(HSCCA)was proposed, and the effect range of heat sources in the space was evaluated by the attenuation of operative temperature. The findings demonstrated that the radiator position has a greater influence on local heating than size. When the position of the radiator was changed from"close to the inner wall"to"close to the outer wall",the LHEC(the interior one-quarter of room is a local heating zone)was found to decrease by 73%.The size of the radiator, which is close to the inner wall, doubled or quadrupled, and the LHEC increased by 9%and 18%.Moreover,rooms with a larger aspect ratio or small room height were found to be the most optimal for local heating applications. The area of the HSCCA decreased as the position of the radiator approached the outer wall. The findings of this study can be used as a design reference for the radiator when the heating mode changes from"full-space heating"to"local heating".

文摘There is a remarkable difference in stress distribution between a specimen and a plate removed from the specimen. The plate presents a uniform stress distribution whereas the specimen presents a non-uniform stress distribution.Firstly, the real stress distributions in plates with thickness of 30,40 and 50 mm and then in the specimens were obtained through simulation and X-ray surface stress measurement.Secondly,in order to study the impact of specimens shapes and processing ways on the results accuracy, two irregular shapes (parallelogram and trapezoid) and two processing ways (saw and electron discharge machining (EDM)) were compared and analyzed by simulation and experiment using layer removal method, then the specimen effects on measurement results were evaluated. The results show that:1) the non-uniform stress distribution characteristics of the specimen near the surface of the cut is significant, the range of non-uniform stress distribution is approximately one-thickness distance away from the cut,and it decreases gradually along the depth;2) In order to ensure the stability in the results,it is suitable to take the specimen plane size 2-3 times of its thickness;3) Conventional processing methods have little effect on experimental results and the average deviation is less than 5%.

文摘Using the quantitative error probability density method we studied the S/N ratio of alternately sampled signals digitized by a 4-channel A/D. The simulation result shows that the deduced expression is correct.
文摘The objective of this paper is to computationally explore the structural stability and strength of gypsum-protected CFS(cold-formed steel)beam channel sections under non-uniform elevated temperatures when exposed to standard fire on one side of the panel and subjected to pure bending. When a CFS member is subjected to fire(or thermal gradients)its material properties change-but this change happens around the cross-section and along the length creating a member which is potentially non-uniform and unsymmetrical in its response even if the apparent geometry is uniform and symmetric.Computational finite element models were analyzed in ABAQUS to establish steady-state thermal gradients of interest.Existing test data were utilized to develop the temperature dependence of the stress-strain response. The time-dependent temperature distribution on the cross-sections obtained from heat transfer analysis was later used in the stability and collapse analyses. The stability of the models was explored to characterize how local, distortional, and global buckling of the member evolves under both uniform and non-uniform temperature distributions. Finally, collapse simulations were performed to characterize the strength under pure bending and explore directly the evolution of strength under the influence of non-uniform temperature.
文摘The representation of a cylindrical helix by Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) curves is presented in this paper. A method is proposed to assess the influences produced by different ways to determine the control ver-texes positions of helix. The error distribution cases between the helix approximated by NURBS curves and the original theoretical one are also analyzed. Meanwhile a computational method that guarantees the precision requirements is presented.
文摘In this paper, a generalized layered model for radiation transfer in canopy with high vertical resolution is developed. Results from the model are compared with those from the two-stream scheme, and differences between these two models are discussed.

文摘Shrinkage strain of concrete specimen with different reinforcement configuration was measured at various depths from the exposed surface by using several pairs of displacement sensors. The relationship between shrinkage strain and reduction of relative humidity in reinforced concrete structure is far different from that in plain concrete.

文摘Interconnection networks are hardware fabrics supporting communications between individual processors in multi- computers. We compare analytical results of message latency with those obtained through the simulation experiments in order to validate the accuracy of the derived model.
