China has a significant population of MSM (men who have sex with men) and they have been becoming very much alive in many ways since 1990s due to recent social changes. Some surveys indicate that great many of MSM are engaged in high-risk behaviors. In addition, majority of MSM have also experienced sexual encounters with women sometimes in their lives, which possibly con- tribute to spread of HIV to women. Some reports documented that HIV is becoming rampant among MSM since more than 1% of them are now infected. Political, cultural and custom elements could hinder intervention activities against HIV spread among MSM. Fortunately, many cities in China have seen that MSM were in cooperation with responsible institutions carrying out certain intervention measures. The general situation is promising. The authors forecast that the fast HIV spread among MSM of China could possibly be halted within several years when the authorities become more sensible to this issue, health service institutions offer unswerving efforts toward the MSM community and those who involve in MSM undertakes necessary responsibilities.展开更多

Methods: Data were collected from 240 Chinese gays whowere attracted by their same gender. Results: The extent of sex among China's Mainland gays issimilar to that of industrialized countries, and behaviorsthat exacerbate the HIV epidemic are universal.Perceptions 'being a girl is better',' Dislike toys likeswords or pistols in early childhood were predictors topassive anal intercourse in adulthood. Those gay men whobegan sexual intercourse younger than 16 years old tendedto have more sex partners and suffered more pain. In the novel, the protagonist Nick Guest who was born in a middle class family enters into the elite circle. He is an attractive young man charged with ambition. Nick is a lonely person, which can be found out in his painful love affairs, the hypocrisy of the Feddens and the isolation of the upper class. Objectives: This study aimed to identify the major stressors and psychological well-being of LGB among Chinese adults in Hong Kong. Methods: A cross-sectional study was employed using self-administered questionnaires. Convenience sampling was used to recruit subjects. Demographic information, Measure of Gay-related stress (MOGS) and The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D Scale) were used to collect data. Results: The major stressor among LGB individuals in Hong Kong was family reaction. Majority of them had a high level of depression. Conclusion: LGB individuals in Hong Kong experienced high level of depression.展开更多

Lance, the oldest of the Loud family children, is on film both flamboyant and effusive, but at the same time-through judicious editing--an asexual creature with no romantic or sexual relationships. This paper considers Lance in the context of Gay representation in media of the 1970s, and then explores the struggle of the filmmakers--and the Loud family themselves--to control and contain the public perception of Lance. The often vague and allusive comments by Lance's parents and even Lance himself suggest a character that is at once channing, witty, and vibrantly alive, yet also pretentious and deceitful. The final argument is that these complicit efforts to avoid controversy actually engender it, turning Lance Loud into a figure of mystery and conjecture ... and the undisputed star of the series.展开更多

Women who have sex with women have also been known to avoid routine physical examinations and conceal their same-sex history from physicians, which can affect their ability to receive an accurate diagnosis and treatment. No previous research has targeted women who have sex with women in China. We sought to describe women who have sex with women in China and explore risk factors for their reproductive tract infections (RTI)/sexually transmitted infections (STI). Methods Participants were recruited through outreach in venues and online for a cross-sectional study. Data were collected using interviews and laboratory tests. Results We recruited 224 women who have sex with women. In the year preceding their participation in the study, 92% (206/224) of women reported sexual relations with women. The RTI rates were: gonorrhea (15.8%), chlamydia (3.5%), syphilis (0.5%), bacterial vaginosis (14.4%), hepatitis B virus (HBV) (0.9%), hepatitis C virus (HCV) (0.5%), and candidiasis (6.9%). No HIV or herpes simplex virus (HSV) positive cases were detected. Factors associated with gonorrhea infection were non-Beijing local residency (odds ratio (OR)=2.1, 95% confidence interval (C/): 1.2-3.8) and genital-genital contact (OR=3.1, 95% CI: 1.3-7.2); factors associated with curable STI (excluding bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis, HBV and HCV) were non-Beijing local residency (OR=1.9; 95% CI: 1.2-3.0) and bleeding during or after sex (OR=18.1; 95% CI: 5.2-62.6); and the factor associated with RTI (including all the infections tested) was bleeding during or after sex (OR=37.8, 95% CI: 11.2-127.4). Conclusions Behaviors that may cause RTI/STI exist among Chinese women who have sex with women. Researchers should consider these behaviors when planninq correspondin.q prevention and interventions.展开更多
