[Objectives]To study the protective effect and mechanism of n-butanol extract of Diploclisia glaucescens(B1.)Diels on rats with adjuvant arthritis.[Methods]A rat adjuvant arthritis(AA)model with similarities to a clinical RA(rheumatoid arthritis)patient was used, and the model was made by injection of Complete Freund s adjuvant(CFA).Body mass and joint swelling degree were used as indicators, and the organ index was calculated and the synovial tissue of rats was examined under microscope to evaluate the protective effect of n-butanol extract on arthritis. The effects of n-butanol extract on TNF-α,IL-1βand PGE_(2)contents in rat serum were detected by ELISA kit.[Results]Arthritic rats experienced significant weight loss;the n-butanol extract reduced the joint swelling in rats.It exerted an effect on rat organs and reduced the contents of TNF-α,IL-1βand PGE_(2) in rat serum, and also reduced synovial inflammation in rats.[Conclusions]The n-butanol extract of D.glaucescens can protect rats with adjuvant arthritis by reducing the content of inflammatory factors. 展开更多

Objectives: To evaluate the in vitro activity of aqueous and methanolic extracts of stem bark of Terminalia glaucescens on the eggs and larval stages of Haemonchus contortus of sheep. Methods: The eggs were exposed for 24 hours in five different concentrations (625, 1250, 2500, 3750 and 5000 μg/ml) of methanol, hot water (decoction) and cold water extracts at room temperature (25°C). Distilled water, 1.25% DMSO and Albendazole were used as negatives and positive control respectively in the bioassay. Results: A significant effect was obtained with all of the three extracts and differences were observed depending on the parasitic stage. Hot water extract (HWE), Methanol (MET) and Cold water extract (CWE) inhibited embryonic development by 98.1%, 96% and 86.5% respectively at 5000 μg/ml, meanwhile Albendazole had a 77.9% inhibition. For the mean inhibition rate of egg hatching, there was a general increase in the inhibition rate with increase in concentration of the extract from 625 to 5000 μg/ml. Methanol extract had the highest inhibition rate in all concentration from 625 to 5000 μg/ml. Concerning larval mortality, HWE had the highest effect in L1 larval mortality in all concentration above 1250 μg/ml. Distilled water had very little larval mortality on L1 and L2 larvae by 3.3 and 3.3% respectively. Conclusion: This in vitro study brought out the ovicidal and larvicidal properties of stem bark of Terminalia glaucescens. 展开更多

In this paper, compounds identified in the essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of the leaves of Cinnamomum glaucescens (Nees) Hand.-Mazz and Cinnamomum verum J.S. Presl (Lauraceae family) of Vietnam origin are reported. The chemical analyses were performed using gas chromatography-flame ionisation detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The significant compounds of C. glaucescens were geraniol (36.2%) and terpinen-4-ol (19.7%). On the other hand, C. verum comprised of linalool (22.0%) and bicyclogermacrene (11.2%). The present results may represent new chemotypes of the essential oils of C. verum and C. glaucescens. 展开更多

Objective: Cynanchum stauntonii and Cynanchum glaucescens are botanical species of Baiqian(Cynanchi Stauntonii Rhizoma et Radix) in Chinese Pharmacopoeia, in which, however, there are no microscopic identification. Therefore, we provided the morphological and microscopic identification of the crude drug for updating Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Methods: Twelve batches of C. stauntonii and three batches of C. glaucescens and their crude drugs were taxonomically, morphologically, and microscopically examined. Results: Taxonomically, C. stauntonii had narrowly lanceolate leaves with acuminate apex and 5 mm long petiole; Whereas C. glaucescens was oblong-lanceolate or oblong with rounded or acute apex in leaves, and had very short or no petiole. Morphologically, rhizomes of C. stauntonii and C. glaucescens both had hollow pith, but the hollow pith occupied about a half of the rhizome's diameter in C. stauntonii, whereas only a very small proportion of the overall diameter in C. glaucescens. Moreover, microscopic observation showed the difference in the proportion of xylem and in rhizome transverse-sections of the two species along with the difference in the size of the pith. Finally, laticifers and rhizome epidermal secretory cells were present in the powders of C. stauntonii, but absent from C. glaucescens. Conclusion: Based on observation of morphological and microscopic characteristics, the two species can be distinguished by the size of the pith, proportion of xylem of rhizomes, and crude drug powder characters such as laticifers and secretory cells. 展开更多
