While people from Western countries do not always understand of the underlying cultural values of most Chinese stories,the Hua Mulan story has gained significant recognition from Western audiences.Therefore,it would b...While people from Western countries do not always understand of the underlying cultural values of most Chinese stories,the Hua Mulan story has gained significant recognition from Western audiences.Therefore,it would be quite beneficial if we could understand the key elements that have contributed to the success of the Hua Mulan story so that we can employ similar elements in other intercultural communication programs and promote the communication and dissemination of cultures between China and the rest of the world.According to the findings from the interviews of 6,130 respondents from 107 countries,we found that the Hua Mulan story gains global acceptance because it represents a story of“a hero with a thousand faces,”which embodies the integration of Chinese traditions and contemporary spirit through sharing a global meaning while responding to various culturally common challenges.Five key cultural value dimensions are responsible for this Chinese story’s cross-cultural affinity and influence,which helped it win recognition and empathy worldwide.The five key cultural value dimensions are loyalty and patriotism,the courage to take responsibility,compatibility of individualism and collectivism,respondence to the multicultural appeal,and hero growth.These dimensions are then generalized as the value identity orientation grounded in a Global Shared Meaning(GSM)in this study.展开更多

Objective:To surveill emerging variants by nanopore technology-based genome sequencing in different COVID-19 waves in Sri Lanka and to examine the association with the sample characteristics,and vaccination status.Met...Objective:To surveill emerging variants by nanopore technology-based genome sequencing in different COVID-19 waves in Sri Lanka and to examine the association with the sample characteristics,and vaccination status.Methods:The study analyzed 207 RNA positive swab samples received to sequence laboratory during different waves.The N gene cut-off threshold of less than 30 was considered as the major inclusion criteria.Viral RNA was extracted,and elutes were subjected to nanopore sequencing.All the sequencing data were uploaded in the publicly accessible database,GISAID.Results:The Omicron,Delta and Alpha variants accounted for 58%,22%and 4%of the variants throughout the period.Less than 1%were Kappa variant and 16%of the study samples remained unassigned.Omicron variant was circulated among all age groups and in all the provinces.Ct value and variants assigned percentage was 100%in Ct values of 10-15 while only 45%assigned Ct value over 25.Conclusions:The present study examined the emergence,prevalence,and distribution of SARS-CoV-2 variants locally and has shown that nanopore technology-based genome sequencing enables whole genome sequencing in a low resource setting country.展开更多

In some countries, lower mortality rate compared to others can be explained by better testing capacity and intensive care facilities. Complete SARS-CoV-2 genome sequences from different countries of the world are continually submitted to Global Initiative for Sharing All Influenza Data using Next Generation Sequencing method. A SARS-CoV-2 variant with a D 614G Mutation in the spike (S) protein has become the most dominant form in the global pandemic. There are a number of ongoing studies trying to relate this mutation with the infectivity, mortality, transmissibility of the virus and its impact on vaccine development. This review aims to accumulate the major findings from some of these studies and focus its future implication. Some studies suggested D 614G strain has increased binding capacity, it affects more cells at a faster rate, so has a high transmissibility. Patients infected with this strain were found with high viral load. But still now there is no such evidence that this strain produces more severe disease as well as increased mortality. The structural change of spike protein produced by D 614G mutation was minor and did not hamper the vaccine efficacy. Some studies showed antibodies produced against D614 strain can neutralize G614 strain and <em>vice versa</em>. Whenever a mutation occurs in spike protein there are always chances of affecting the infectivity, transmissibility, vaccine efficacy. Therefore, more studies are required to find out the overall effect of D 614G mutation.展开更多

We point out that the economic development of China is now standing at a historic turning point. Specifically, economic changes in China are discassed from four dimensions: (i) from China being a world assembly line to a world manufacturing powerhouse; (ii) from China being a world capital receiver to a world investor; (iii) from China being a world factory to a world market; and (iv) from the situation of "made in China" to "innovated in China." At the same time, the global economic system has also reached a turning point. This paper presents a coordinated secondary control(CSC)strategy for distributed power management for an autonomous hybrid three-port AC/DC/DS microgrid.The proposed CSC is on top of a generalized primary control(GPC)...This paper presents a coordinated secondary control(CSC)strategy for distributed power management for an autonomous hybrid three-port AC/DC/DS microgrid.The proposed CSC is on top of a generalized primary control(GPC),which consists of local power sharing(LPS)control within an individual AC or DC subgrid,global power sharing(GPS)control throughout the AC/DC subgrids,and storage power sharing(SPS)control in a distributed storage(DS)network.The CSC along with the GPC uses the local frequency/voltage deviations and offers decentralized power management with enhanced overall reliability.To eliminate the inherent frequency/voltage deviations in GPC and restore to their nominal values,a secondary control is normally applied to all distributed generators(DGs),which would degrade the performance of decentralized power management.To overcome this concern,a CSC strategy is proposed to concurrently restore frequency/voltage and re-establish a distributed power management by means of limited information exchange through the low-bandwidth communication links.The proposed control scheme has been verified by both simulations and controller hardware-in-the-loop(CHIL)experiments in an OPAL-RT digital simulator system.展开更多
To identify the macroeconomic environment that has enabled China's industrial upgrading during a period of persistent renminbi appreciation,we construct a two-country New Keynesian model of industrial upgrading wi...To identify the macroeconomic environment that has enabled China's industrial upgrading during a period of persistent renminbi appreciation,we construct a two-country New Keynesian model of industrial upgrading with a global production network,endogenous firm entry,and a directed quality frontier.We show that renminbi appreciation promotes industrial upgrading without hurting real economic growth in the longer run.This holds true especially through four channels.First,the quality threshold for firm entry is lower to allow for more firms participation and thus greater product varieties(quality threshold channel).Second,upstream skill-based production uses more imported inputs of higher quality(imported input channel).Third,there is substantial global demand towards the exports of high-quality inputs(global demand channel).Fourth,domestic inputs are competing against imported inputs to broaden the scope for competition in the upstream product market to incentivize quality upgrading(scope for competition channel).展开更多
