The Application of Goal-Setting Theory in the Second Classroom Teaching Activities of College English

Interest is the precondition and motivation for people's accomplishment.However,due to the exam-oriented system,millions of parents and teachers neglect the interests of children,and our children nearly forget their interests or hobbies.Based on different interests of children,the thesis analyzes how to apply the goal-setting theory in the second classroom teaching activities of College English,using the example of Lushan College of Guangxi University of Technology.

A Study on the Effectiveness of Process-oriented Approach in ESL English Writing Teaching in YAU

This study sets out to conduct the effectiveness of process-oriented approach on the ESL writing teaching for non-Eng-lish majors in Yunnan Agricultural University(YAU),with the aim of enhancing the students' English writing proficiency andscores.120 non-English major sophomores and 10 English teachers from YAU are involved in it.With the results of questionnaire,interview and the composition scores of the target students,the findings indicate that the students have a positive attitude towardsprocess-oriented writing approach and it can help them write better and make the writing class more interesting.

Efficacy of Peer Revision in Process-oriented Writing

Peer revision is a collaborative activity during which student writers can exchange drafts and make suggestions for improvement. It has been widely used at present in process-oriented writing instruction. In this paper, the researcher carried out an empirical study about the effects and efficacy of peer revision on a group of Chinese Juniors majoring in English. It was found that student writers focused specially on grammar and vocabulary in PE session and organization was the least attended to. PE was quite effective in improving the overall writing quality, as the participants did incorporate most of the revisions suggested by their peers. However, the influences of students'writing proficiencies and of the rhetorical modes of the writing tasks on the effects of PE were proved to be not very significant.

Research on goal-setting method of rock drivage based on the balance among period, cost and quality

On the basis of the analysis on the disadvantages of the original goal-setting about rock drivage, this paper defined the ＂life cycle quality＂. With project management theory and the Cobb-Douglas function, ＂quality-cost and quality-price curve model＂ and the ＂total cost-period prediction model＂ were built. Then the goal-setting method of the balance among quality, cost and period of rock drivage was constructed by finding ＂life cycle cost＂ through ＂life cycle quality＂ using ＂quality-cost and quality-price curve model＂ and ensuring period through ＂life cycle cost＂ using ＂total cost-period prediction model＂ （hereinafter referred to as the ＂three goals balance method＂）. ＂Value contribution＂ which is the value of the contribution to a mine because of rock drivage, was found in the process of constructing the ＂quality-cost and quality-price curve model＂. An industrial test was done in coal mine A with the research results, staff footage efficiency improved by 24.24%, the period shortened by 14.3%, the ＂life cycle cost＂ dropped by 2.09%, the ＂life cycle quality price＂ improved by 3.29%, and value contribution increased by 25.3%. The result shows that the new goal method setting on the basis of coal mine profit maximization can ensure construc- tion period. At the same time, it can realize cost and quality objectives and the optimization and balance of relationship among them; rewarding excavation teams by ＂value contribution＂ can combine organizational goal with personal goal, it significantly raise the employee＇s work efficiency.

Process-oriented knowledge-sharing platform for chemical engineering design projects

A process-oriented knowledge-sharing platform is studied to improve knowledge sharing and project management of chemical engineering design enterprises. First, problems and characteristics of knowledge sharing in multi-projects of chemical engineering design are analyzed. Then based on theories of project management, process management, and knowledge management, a process-oriented knowledge-sharing platform is proposed. The platform has three characteristics: knowledge is divided into professional knowledge and project management knowledge; knowledge sharing is integrated with the project process, which makes knowledge sharing a necessary part of the project process and ensures the quantity of knowledge shared; the platform provides quantitative measurements of incentive mechanisms for knowledge providers and users which ensures the quality of knowledge shared. This knowledge-sharing platform uses two knowledge management tools, a knowledge map and a knowledge base, to support the platform.

Nurses’ Experiences of Process-Oriented Supervision—Acquiring New Approaches to Demanding Situations

Background: Providing nursing care for patients and relatives requires a great effort from a nurse. It is therefore important for the nurse to have the opportunity to reflect on the caring acts included in process-oriented nursing supervision (PRONS). The overall objective of the nursing supervision is to support the professional development identity, competences, skills and ethics in different situations in nursing care. Aim: To investigate nurses’ experiences of the model of purging, playing and learning (PPL) according to Eriksson theory in a (PRONS) related to strengthen safe care, quality and professional development. Method: A qualitative study with individual interviews and the data was analyzed using qualitative interpretive content analysis. Participants: All eleven registered participated nurses were from southwestern Sweden and worked in different hospital units. Ethical Considerations: The study carried out in accordance with the ethical guidelines laid down in the Helsinki Declaration and according to the recommendations of the regional ethics committee. Findings: Three categories were identified, valuable purging in the process, responsive playing and awareness of learning. The study found that by participating in PRONS the nurses had developed new approaches with different “tools” when difficult situations occurred in daily nursing practice. Conclusion: PRONS with the model PPL has an important role to support nurses in daily nursing practice. The study highlights that there are residual successful effects after PRONS for the nurses in managing care situations that experienced strengthen quality in care and professional development.

Goal-Setting in the Information-Generating Environment of the Universe

Problem of goal-setting is related to the fundamental principles of informationology and general, rather than specific, aproaches, which enable a more adequate appraisal of certain managerial decisions in terms of their efficiency. In article this problem is considered and from positions of informationology is formulated and on the basis of a method of full mathematical induction the Law of positive dynamics of the Universe is proved. This law establishes preference of the positive purposes in all processes happening in the Universe. Thus, the goal-setting which is carried out from positions of the described Law is the important world outlook prerequisite searching, identification and development of strategic alternatives of purposeful social innovations.

Goal-Setting and “Meaning-Making” in Mined Dataset of Tweets Using SFG Approach

Goal-setting enhances learning by providing a sense of direction and purpose to individuals. Contemporary social media plays an important role in expressing individual users＇ messages and sharing personal goals within a given community. The massiveness of the data available for users calls for a more systematic analysis of goals and meaning-making construction of these goals for educational and research purposes. This research proposes an approach to combine methods of mining, corpus linguistics and SFG （systemic functional grammar） for extracting goals in mined tweets, sorting the data linguistically and devising a model for analyzing the data based on the concepts of SFG and genre-based realization. The results of ＂meaning-making＂ analysis of goals show that： （1） mining is a successful tool for processing the large database into the pre-designated typology of goals; （2） the implementation of SFG as an analytical theory for semiotic and semogenic features of goals is a significant expansion of linguistic analysis of goals; （3） the Transitivity Model of SFG for identifying the Ideational Function of social meaning creation shows thc inclination of using ＂material＂, ＂mental＂ and ＂relational＂ processes as well as personal recounts of past learning experiences.

Organizational Psychology Revisited: Recent Applications of Goal-Setting Theory

Purpose:Goal Setting Theory(GST)created by Edwin Locke and Gary Latham has proven to be an incredibly versatile theory.Its widespread utilization has proven it to be a valuable theory to further explore and understand.The purpose of this paper is to examine current approaches to and practices of GST.Methodology:This systematic literature review is based on 12 recent articles using GST and examining their collective findings.The articles were a mix of theory description,quantitative experiments,empirical experiments,and literature review.Findings:Most of the reviewed literature agreed that further and more defined research would be greatly beneficial for future applications of this theory.Given the broad nature of this theory,a more defined approach would likely prove useful for future utilization.Value:Exploring the multitude of ways this theory has already been applied gives an understanding of shortcomings as well as successes.Reviewing the current available literature allows GST to be utilized in a more precise way in the future.

Process model of IT impacts on firm competitiveness based on application capability of information technology

To investigate the process of information technology （IT） impacts on firm competitiveness, an integrated process model of IT impacts on firm competitiveness is brought forward based on the process-oriented view, the resource-based view and the complementary resource view, which is comprised of an IT conversion process, an information system （IS） adoption process, an IS use process and a competition process. The application capability of IT plays the critical role, which determines the efficiency and effectiveness of the aforementioned four processes. The process model of IT impacts on firm competitiveness can also be used to explain why, under what situations and how IT can generate positive organizational outcomes, as well as theoretical bases for further empirical study.

A STUDY OF THE EFFECTS OF THE PROCESS-ORIENTED APPROACH ON THE EFL WRITING PROFICIENCY OF CHINESE NON-ENGLISH MAJORS

This study was designed to study the effects of the process-oriented approach on the EFL writing proficiency of Chinese non-English majors.In this study,two research designs were employed:the quantitative design and the qualitative design.In the quantitative design,two classes participated in an 8-week experiment.An interview was employed in the qualitative design to find out students' attitude towards process-oriented approach.The result of the study showed that students generally held positive attitudes towards this approach and it was more effective in improving students' EFL writing proficiency and could thus be adjusted to teach writing.

The Effectiveness of Self-regulated Learning Strategies on Chinese College Students' English Learning

The purpose of this paper is to argue the effectiveness of self-regulated learning in English education in Chinese college classroom instruction. A study is given to show whether the introduction of self-regulated learning can help improve Chinese college students' English learning, and help them perform better in the National English test-CET-4 (College English Test Level-4,).

A conceptual model for a process-oriented landscape pattern analysis

Linking landscape patterns to specific ecological processes has been and will continue to be the key topic in landscape ecology.However,this goal is difficult to achieve by using the traditional landscape metric based on the Patch-Mosaic Model(PMM),as they don’t integrate ecological processes with landscape patterns.In this paper,we proposed a conceptual model,i.e.,the Source-Pathway-Sink Model(SPSM),which designates the role of a landscape unit into "source", "sink",or "pathway" based on specific ecological processes during the landscape pattern analysis.While the traditional landscape metrics derived from the PMM model is visual-or geometrical-oriented and lack of linkage to ecological significance,the SPSM model is process-oriented,dynamic,and scale dependent.A comparison between the PMM and the SPSM models shows that the SPSM model is complementary to the PMM model,and can provide a simple and dynamic perspective on landscape pattern analysis.The SPSM model may represent a conceptual innovation in landscape ecology.

Web-based spatiotemporal visualization of marine environment data

With long-term marine surveys and research,and especially with the development of new marine environment monitoring technologies,prodigious amounts of complex marine environmental data are generated,and continuously increase rapidly.Features of these data include massive volume,widespread distribution,multiple-sources,heterogeneous,multi-dimensional and dynamic in structure and time.The present study recommends an integrative visualization solution for these data,to enhance the visual display of data and data archives,and to develop a joint use of these data distributed among different organizations or communities.This study also analyses the web services technologies and defines the concept of the marine information gird,then focuses on the spatiotemporal visualization method and proposes a process-oriented spatiotemporal visualization method.We discuss how marine environmental data can be organized based on the spatiotemporal visualization method,and how organized data are represented for use with web services and stored in a reusable fashion.In addition,we provide an original visualization architecture that is integrative and based on the explored technologies.In the end,we propose a prototype system of marine environmental data of the South China Sea for visualizations of Argo floats,sea surface temperature fields,sea current fields,salinity,in-situ investigation data,and ocean stations.An integration visualization architecture is illustrated on the prototype system,which highlights the process-oriented temporal visualization method and demonstrates the benefit of the architecture and the methods described in this study.

Executive functioning in TBI from rehabilitation to social reintegration: COMPASS^(goal), a randomized controlled trial(grant: 1I01RX000637-01A3 by the VA ORD RR&D, 2013–2016)

Background: Traumatic brain injury is a major health problem that frequently leads to deficits in executive function. Self-regulation processes, such as goal-setting, may become disordered after traumatic brain injury, particularly when the frontal regions of the brain and their connections are involved. Such impairments reduce injured veterans' ability to return to work or school and to regain satisfactory personal lives. Understanding the neurologically disabling effects of brain injury on executive function is necessary for both the accurate diagnosis of impairment and the individual tailoring of rehabilitation processes to help returning service members recover independent function.Methods/design: The COMPASSgoal(Community Participation through Self-Efficacy Skills Development) program develops and tests a novel patient-centered intervention framework for community reintegration psychosocial research in veterans with mild traumatic brain injury. COMPASSgoal integrates the principles and best practices of goal self-management. Goal setting is a core skill in self-management training by which persons with chronic health conditions learn to improve their status and decrease symptom effects. Over a three-year period, COMPASSgoal will recruit 110 participants with residual executive dysfunction three months or more post-injury. Inclusion criteria combine both clinical diagnosis and standardized scores that are >1 SD from the normative score on the Frontal Systems Rating Scale. Participants are randomized into two groups: goal-management(intervention) and supported discharge(control). The intervention is administered in eight consecutive, weekly sessions. Assessments occur at enrollment, post-intervention/supported discharge, and three months post-treatment follow-up.Discussion: Goal management is part of the "natural language" of rehabilitation. However, collaborative goal-setting between clinicians/case managers and clients can be hindered by the cognitive deficits that follow brain injury. Re-training returning veterans with brain injury in goal management, with appropriate help and support, would essentially treat deficits in executive function. A structured approach to goal self-management may foster greater independence and self-efficacy, help veterans gain insight into goals that are realistic for them at a given time, and help clinicians and veterans to work more effectively as true collaborators.

Development of a landscape index to link landscape pattern to runoff and sediment

Linking landscape indexes to ecological processes is the key topic of landscape ecology.However,traditional landscape metrics based on the Patch-Mosaic Model have no ecological significance.In this study,the runoff-sediment landscape index coupling land use,topography,soil,and vegetation factors was constructed to link landscape patterns to runoff and sediment.In the study area,the runoffsediment landscape index at the class scale showed an increasing trend from 0.10 in 1995 to 0.26 in 2015.Cropland had a higher runoff-sediment landscape index compared to grassland or forestland.At the landscape scale,the runoff-sediment landscape index showed a decreasing trend since 1995;furthermore,it decreased by 36.24%in 2015 compared with the index in 1990.The runoff-sediment landscape index had higher correlations with runoff and sediment compared with traditional landscape metrics.Redundancy analysis showed that the runoffsediment landscape index had a higher contribution to runoff and sediment compared to traditional landscape metrics,explaining 90.1%of the variability.The soil erosion risk assessed by the runoff-sediment landscape index showed an increasing trend upstream of the Dali River watershed.More attention should be paid to this area in future vegetation restoration attempts,as exploring the impact of landscape pattern changes on ecological processes,especially hydrological processes,plays an important role in comprehensive watershed management.

Towards a Categorical Framework for Verifying Design and Implementation of Concurrent Systems

Process-oriented design and implementation of concurrent systems has important benefits. However, the inherent complexity of concurrent processes’ communication imposes challenges such as verifying consistency between the process-oriented design and implementation of a concurrent system. To deal with such a challenge, we use Galois connections, Failures and Category Theory to construct a formal framework for designing, implementing, analyzing and verifying consistency of concurrent systems. For the purpose of illustrating the framework, a running concurrent system is designed by Communicating Sequential Processes, implemented by a process-oriented programming language Erasmus.

Organizational Psychology Revisited.Goal Setting Theory in Recent Years:A Systematic Literature Review

Recently,setting goals has received a lot of attention.Studies show that not all goals are the same,not all goals are suitable for every situation.Interesting findings have emerged over the past 20 years regarding demanding versus realistic goals,generic versus more precise goals,assigned versus participative goals,and finally learning versus performance-based goals.This systematic literature review aims to highlight the importance of goal setting theory in business and explore its fundamental concepts,by reviewing and evaluating the most recent studies,finally,to discuss potential applications and offer suggestions for further research.
