In this paper, based on current severe environmental protection situation, new idea of "government taking the stage, research department writing a play, enterprise acting in an opera and the masses supervising" and action plan of "government having the right but can not be impulsive, research department having the talent and should discharge their duties, enterprise having the money but should keep law, and the mas- ses having the enthusiasm to strengthen supervision" for environmental protection are proposed, which aims to contribute ideas and exert efforts for impelling ecological civilization and environmental protection.展开更多

We also discussed the responses of fishes to the quick changes in Arctic climate. The results showed that a total of 41 species in 14 families were recorded in these waters. The dominant species were Hippoglossoides robustus, Boreogadus saida, Myoxocephalus scorpius, Lumpenus fabricii, and Artediellus scaber. There were 35 coldwater species, accounting for 85.37%, and six cold temperate species, occupying 14.63%. The habitat types of fish could be grouped as follows: 35 species of demersal fishes, five benthopelagic fishes, and one pelagic fish. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') (range between 0 and 2.18, 1.21 on average) was not high, and descended from south to north. Climate change has caused some fishes to shift along their latitudinal and longitudinal distribution around the Arctic and Subarctic areas, and this could lead to the decline of Arctic fishery resources.展开更多

Based on the evaluation of comprehensive level of urbanization and the comprehensive quality of water ecological environment, their changing trends during 2000-2014 were analyzed, and the response model between them was established. The composite index of urbanization in the connection zone between Shenyang and Fushun always increased from 2000 to 2014,and urbanization developed rapidly after 2004. The comprehensive quality of water ecological environment decreased firstly and then increased during 2000-2014. The response relationship between urbanization comprehensive index and water ecological comprehensive index during 2000-2014 could be expressed by a cubic curve.展开更多

The study was conducted to compare the variability among the wild arabica coffee genotypes in biomass assimilation and allocation patterns under varying light and irrigation conditions at the Jimma Research Center, southwestern Ethiopia. The treatments included irradiance (moderate and full sunlight), irrigation (well watered and water stressed) regimes and twelve coffee genotypes of different geographical areas. One-year-old seedlings were used to record dry mass of leaves, main stem, primary branches and root growth. Each organ was separately oven-dried and total dry matter production and allocation patterns were measured and analyzed. The results depicted highly significant differences between the contrasting irradiance and irrigation regimes as well as among coffee genotypes. Significantly the lowest and highest stems dry mass values recorded for Berhane-Kontir and Harenna genotypes, respectively. Most accessions had relatively lower assimilations in shade as compared to full sun light conditions. Likewise, coffee seedlings significantly differed in root dry mass and root to shoot ratio, dry matter partitioning due to the main and combined treatment effects. Overall, total biomass assimilation and partitioning were higher for unshaded, water stressed and Harenna genotypes from the respective treatment groups. Conversely, leaf dry matter, leaf share was significantly high under moderate shade environments. The total dry matter share varied for the seedling growth parts (root = 22%, leaf = 35%, stem = 43% and whole shoot = 78%). The root growth followed the order of Harenna > Yayu > Bonga > Berhane-Kontir populations. The reverse was true for the leaf and whole-shoots, demonstrating the completion between above and below ground growth parts and thus the need to consider both dry matter assimilation and partitioning patterns in identifying desirable genotypes and optimum environments for future breeding program in Ethiopia.展开更多
