Although 9.4 T magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) has been tested in healthy volunteers,its safety in diabetic patients is unclear.Furthermore,the effects of high static magnetic fields(SMFs),especially gradient vs.uniform fields,have not been investigated in diabetics.Here,we investigated the consequences of exposure to 1.0-9.4 T high SMFs of different gradients(>10 T/m vs.0-10 T/m)on type 1 diabetic(T1D) and type 2 diabetic(T2D) mice.We found that 14 h of prolonged treatment of gradient(as high as 55.5 T/m) high SMFs(1.0-8.6 T) had negative effects on T1D and T2D mice,including spleen,hepatic,and renal tissue impairment and elevated glycosylated serum protein,blood glucose,inflammation,and anxiety,while 9.4 T quasi-uniform SMFs at 0-10 T/m did not induce the same effects.In regular T1D mice(blood glucose>16.7 mmol/L),the>10 T/m gradient high SMFs increased malondialdehyde(P<0.01) and decreased superoxide dismutase(P<0.05).However,in the severe T1D mice(blood glucose≥30.0 mmol/L),the>10 T/m gradient high SMFs significantly increased tissue damage and reduced survival rate.In vitro cellular studies showed that gradient high SMFs increased cellular reactive oxygen species and apoptosis and reduced MS-1 cell number and proliferation.Therefore,this study showed that prolonged exposure to high-field(1.0-8.6 T)>10 T/m gradient SMFs(35-1 380 times higher than that of current clinical MRI)can have negative effects on diabetic mice,especially mice with severe T1D,whereas 9.4 T high SMFs at 0-10T/m did not produce the same effects,providing important information for the future development and clinical application of SMFs,especially high-field MRI. 展开更多

Guidance path-planning and following are two core technologies used for controlling un-manned aerial vehicles(UAVs)in both military and civilian applications.However,only a few approaches treat both the technologies simultaneously.In this study,an innovative hybrid gradient vector fields for path-following guidance(HGVFs-PFG)algorithm is proposed to control fixed-wing UAVs to follow a generated guidance path and oriented target curves in three-dimensional space,which can be any combination of straight lines,arcs,and helixes as motion primitives.The algorithm aids the creation of vector fields(VFs)for these motion primitives as well as the design of an effective switching strategy to ensure that only one VF is activated at any time to ensure that the complex paths are followed completely.The strategies designed in earlier studies have flaws that prevent the UAV from following arcs that make its turning angle too large.The proposed switching strategy solves this problem by introducing the concept of the virtual way-points.Finally,the performance of the HGVFs-PFG algorithm is verified using a reducedorder autopilot and four representative simulation scenarios.The simulation considers the constraints of the aircraft,and its results indicate that the algorithm performs well in following both lateral and longitudinal control,particularly for curved paths.In general,the proposed technical method is practical and competitive. 展开更多

This paper covers the concept of a conservative vector field, and its application in vector physics and Newtonian mechanics. Conservative vector fields are defined as the gradient of a scalar-valued potential function. Gradient fields are irrotational, as in the curl in all conservative vector fields is zero, by Clairaut’s Theorem. Additionally, line integrals in conservative vector fields are path-independent, and line integrals over closed paths are always equal to zero, properties proved by the Gradient Theorem of multivariable calculus. Gradient fields represent conservative forces, and the associated potential function is analogous to potential energy associated with said conservative forces. The Intersect Rule provides a new, unique shortcut for determining if a vector field is conservative and deriving potential functions, by treating the indefinite integral as a set of infinitely many functions which satisfy the integral. 展开更多

This paper systematically studies the flashover probability of wind turbine blade lightning arrester and the impact of strong electromagnetic pulses on the local and surrounding wind turbines during lightning strikes.The research results indicate that the flashover probability of direct lightning strikes by the wind turbine blade lightning arrester is almost negligible,and the strong electromagnetic pulse of wind turbine blade during lightning strikes has a serious impact on the electronic equipment of the machine,while the impact on the surrounding wind turbine is relatively small.At the same time,the calculation formula for the reflection of lightning current on the carbon brush between the wind turbine hub and the engine compartment during the flashing of the wind turbine blades is provided,and the calculation method for calculating the spatial gradient distribution of electromagnetic field intensity using Biot-Savart Law theorem is applied.The limitations of using wind turbine blades for lightning protection are pointed out,and a technical route for achieving wind turbine lightning safety is proposed,which can be used as a reference for wind turbine lightning protection technicians. 展开更多

We present a review of the principal developments in the evolution and synergism of solute and particle migration in a liquid melt in high-gradient magnetic fields and we also describe their effects on the solidification microstructure of alloys.Diverse areas relevant to various aspects of theory and applications of high-gradient magnetic field-controlled migration of solutes and particles are surveyed. They include introduction, high-gradient magnetic field effects, migration behavior of solute and particles in high-gradient magnetic fields, microstructure evolution induced by high-gradient magnetic fieldcontrolled migrations of solute and particles, and properties of materials modified by high-gradient magnetic field-tailored microstructure. Selected examples of binary and multiphase alloy systems are presented and examined, with the main focus on the correlation between the high-gradient magnetic field-modified migration and the related solidification microstructure evolution. The conclusions a re: (1) Gravity and gravit y gradient changes are verysmall with the change of vertical positionl (2) Gravity change is much greater than the gravity gradient changewhich is not so distinct; (3) The gravity change due to redistribution of mass accounts for 10-50 percent of thetotal gravity change caused by dislocation. Based on closed-orbit theory, the photodetachment of H- in a gradient electric field near a metal surface is studied. It is demonstrated that the gradient electric field has a significant influence on the photodetachment of negative ions near a metal surface. With the increase of the gradient of the electric field, the oscillation in the photodetachment cross section becomes strengthened. Besides, in contrast to the photodetachment of H- near a metal surface in a uniform electric field, the oscillating amplitude and the oscillating region in the cross section of a gradient electric field also become enlarged. Therefore, we can use the gradient electric field to control the photodetachment of negative ions near a metal surface. We hope that our results will be useful for understanding the photodetachment of negative ions in the vicinity of surfaces, cavities, and ion traps. 展开更多

We provide an effective method to investigate the field gradient effect in nanoconfined plasmon-matter interaction.Aligned ultralong SWNTs without defects were grown on marked substrates, followed by assembling gold nanoparticle clusters around individual nanotubes. The Raman scattering behavior of a nanotube placed in an atomic scale nanogap between adjacent nanoparticles was studied. In addition to the expected plasmon-induced Raman enhancement up to 103,the defect-free D-mode of an individual SWNT induced by gradient field is found for the first time. When the light is confined at atomic scale, gradient field Raman scattering becomes significant and dipole-forbidden phonon modes can be activated by quadrupole Raman tensor variation, indicating breakdown of the Raman selection rules. 展开更多

We study this effect with a simplified theoretical model of the time-propagation operator. According to the typical parameters, we find that this effect should be taken into account when the gravimeter reaches an accuracy of 10^-10g, and the larger the pulse duration is, the more obvious the systematic effect will be. The magnetic shield is widely used in the atomic magnetometer. However, there is magnetic field gradient in the magnetic shield, which would lead to additional gradient broadening. It is impossible to use an ex-situ magnetometer to measure magnetic field gradient in the region of a cell, whose length of side is several centimeters. The method demonstrated in this paper can realize the in-situ measurement of the magnetic field gradient inside the cell, which is significant for the spin relaxation study. The magnetic field gradients along the longitudinal axis of the magnetic shield are measured by a spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) magnetometer by adding a magnetic field modulation in the probe beam's direction. The transmissivity of the cell for the probe beam is always inhomogeneous along the pump beam direction, and the method proposed in this paper is independent of the intensity of the probe beam, which means that the method is independent of the cell's transmissivity. This feature makes the method more practical experimentally. Moreover, the AC-Stark shift can seriously degrade and affect the precision of the magnetic field gradient measurement. The AC-Stark shift is suppressed by locking the pump beam to the resonance of potassium's D1 line. Furthermore, the residual magnetic fields are measured with σ+- and σ--polarized pump beams, which can further suppress the effect of the AC-Stark shift. The method of measuring in-situ magnetic field gradient has achieved a magnetic field gradient precision of better than 30 pT/mm. 展开更多

In the present work we calculate the energies,quadrupole moments,and electric field gradients(EFGs) of molecules C2,N2,and O2 based on the DIRRCI method with basis aug-cc-pVTZ-DK.We prove that the quadratic force constant k2 is the product of charge and EFG at its equilibrium nuclear distance.The dipole charge distributions for these symmetrical molecules are all in equilibrium,however,the quadrupole charge distributions are far from equilibrium;among these,there is the most remarkable deviation from equilibrium for N2,for its many charges concentrate on two sides of the molecule,which is in agreement with the well-known characteristic of the nitrogen molecule.The relativistic effect is remarkable even for the same period. 展开更多

Since high magnetic field(MF) intensity can improve the image quality and reduce magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) acquisition time, the field intensity of MRIs has continued to increase over the past few decades. Although MRIs in most current hospitals are 0.5 T–3 T, there are preclinical studies have been carried out using 9.4 T MRI, and engineers are also putting efforts on building MRIs with even higher MFs. However, the accompanied safety issue of high-field MRIs is an emergent question to address before their clinical applications. In the meantime, the static magnetic field(SMF) has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in previous studies. Here, we investigated both the safety issue and the anti-tumor potentials of 3.7 T–24.5 T SMFs on GIST-T1 gastrointestinal stromal tumor-bearing nude mice. We followed up the mice three weeks after their exposure to high SMF and found that none of the mice died or had severe organ damage, except for slightly decreased food intake, weight gain, and liver function. Moreover, the tumor growth was inhibited by 3.7 T–24.5 T SMFs(up to ~54%). It is interesting that the effects are more dependent on MF gradient than intensities, and for the same gradient and intensity, mice responded differently to hypogravity and hypergravity conditions. Therefore, our study not only demonstrated the safeness of high SMFs up to 24.5 T on mice but also revealed their anti-tumor potentials in the future. 展开更多

To address the difficulty in testing and calibrating the stress gradient in the depth direction of mechanical components, a new technology of nondestructive testing and characterization of the residual stress gradient field by ultrasonic method is proposed based on acoustoelasticity theory. By carrying out theoretical analysis, the sensitivity coefficients of different types of ultrasonic are obtained by taking the low carbon steel(12%C) as a research object. By fixing the interval distance between sending and receiving transducers, the mathematical expressions of the change of stress and the variation of time are established. To design one sending-one receiving and oblique incidence ultrasonic detection probes, according to Snell law, the critically refracted longitudinal wave(LCR wave) is excited at a certain depth of the fixed distance of the tested components. Then, the relationship between the depth of LCR wave detection and the center frequency of the probe in Q235 steel is obtained through experimental study. To detect the stress gradient in the depth direction, a stress gradient LCR wave detection model is established, through which the stress gradient formula is derived by the relationship between center frequency and detecting depth. A C-shaped stress specimen of Q235 steel is designed to conduct stress loading tests, and the stress is measured with the five group probes at different center frequencies. The accuracy of ultrasonic testing is verified by X-ray stress analyzer. The stress value of each specific depth is calculated using the stress gradient formula. Accordingly, the ultrasonic characterization of residual stress field is realized. Characterization results show that the stress gradient distribution is consistent with the simulation in ANSYS. The new technology can be widely applied in the detection of the residual stress gradient field caused by mechanical processing, such as welding and shot peening. 展开更多

Self-diffusion coefficients in different domains of the sample can be extracted through a bi- exponential fit to the echo intensity attenuation, which allows the precise determination of the tortuosity of the polyethylene particles. We calculate the photodetachment cross sections of H- in a gradient electric field based on traditional quantum approach. The system provides a rare example that the formulas for the cross sections can be explicitly derived by both the quantum approach and closed-orbit theory. The quantum results are compared with those of the closed-orbit theory. The correct phase values in the closed-orbit theory are essential and necessary to produce accurate cross sections. Our quantum results remove some previous ambiguities in assigning the phase values in the closed-orbit theory (G. C. Yang and M. L. Du 2007 Phys. Rev. A 75 029904E). 展开更多

The La-dopping effect on the piezoelectricity in the K0.5Na0.5NbO3 (KNN) crystal with a tetragonal phase is investigated for the first time using the first-principle calculation based on density functional theory. The full potentiallinearized augumented plane wave plus local orbitals (APW-LO) method and the supercell method are used in the calculation for the KNN crystal with and without the La doping. The results show that the piezoelectricity originates from the strong hybridization between the Nb atom and the O atom, and the substitution of the K or Na atom by the La impurity atom introduces the anisotropic relaxation and enhances the piezoelectricity at first and then restrains the hybridization of the Nb-O atoms when the La doping content further increases. 展开更多

We compile the GOCE-only satellite model GOSG01S complete to spherical harmonic degree of 220 using Satellite Gravity Gradiometry (SGG) data and the Satellite-to-Satellite Tracking (SST) observations along the GOCE orbit based on applying a least-squares analysis. The diagonal components (Vxx, Vyy, Vzz) of the gravitational gradient tensor are used to form the system of observation equations with the band-pass ARMA filter. The point-wise acceleration observations (ax, ay, az) along the orbit are used to form the system of observation equations up to the maximum spherical harmonic degree/order 130. The analysis of spectral accuracy characteristics of the newly derived gravitational model GOSG01S and the existing models GOTIM04S, GODIR04S, GOSPW04S and JYY_GOCE02S based on their comparison with the ultrahigh degree model EIGEN-6C2 reveals a significant consistency at the spectral window approximately between 80 and 190 due to the same period SGG data used to compile these models. The GOCE related satellite gravity models GOSG01S, GOTIM05S, GODIR05S, GOTIM04S, GODIR04S, GOSPW04S, JYY_- GOCE02S, EIGEN-6C2 and EGM2008 are also validated by using GPS-leveling data in China and USA. According to the truncation at degree 200, the statistic results show that all GGMs have very similar differences at GPS-leveling points in USA, and all GOCE related gravity models have better performance than EGM2008 in China. This suggests that all these models provide much more information on the gravity field than EGM2008 in areas with low terrestrial gravity coverage. And STDs of height anomaly differences in China for the selected truncation degrees show that GOCE has improved the accuracy of the global models beyond degree 90 and the accuracies of the models improve from 24 cm to 16 cm. STDs of geoid height differences in USA show that GOSG01S model has best consistency comparing with GPSleveling data for the frequency band of the degree between 20 and 160. 展开更多

This paper presents a novel method that uses the interception effect of gradient magnetic field on oxygen molecules to realize enrichment.The use of two opposite magnetic poles of two magnets at a certain distance forms a magnetic space having a field intensity gradient near its borders.When air injected into the magnetic space outflows from the magnetic space via its borders,oxygen molecules in the air will experience the interception effect of the gradient magnetic field,but nitrogen molecules will outflow from the magnetic space without hindrance.Thus,continuous oxygen enrichment is realized.The enrichment degree of oxygen reaches 0.65%when the inlet and outlet air flows are 40 mL/min and 20 mL/min,respectively,and the gas temperature is 298 K and the maximal product of magnetic flux density and its gradient is 563 T2/m(the distance between two magnetic poles is 1 mm).When the gas temperature rises to 343 K,the enrichment degree drops to 0.32%;and when the maximal product of magnetic flux density and field intensity gradient drops to 101 T2/m(the distance between two magnetic poles is 4 mm),the enrichment degree drops to 0.23%.The experimental results show that there is an optimal ratio between the inlet air flow and the outlet air flow.Under the experimental conditions in this paper,the value is about 2.0.It is demonstrated that the method presented in this paper can continuously enrich oxygen and has a higher enrich-ment degree than other oxygen-enrichment methods using magnetic separation. 展开更多
