In order to exploit the rendering ability of PC clusters, we should design appropriate parallel rendering algorithms and parallel graphics library interfaces. Due to the rapid development of Direct3D, we bring forward DPGL, the Direct3D9-based parallel graphics library in D3DPR parallel rendering system, which implements Direct3D9 interfaces to support existing Direct3D9 application parallelization with no modification. Based on the parallelism analysis of Direct3D9 rendering pipeline, we briefly introduce D3DPR parallel rendering system. DPGL is the fundamental component of D3DPR. After presenting DPGL three layers architecture, we discuss the rendering resource interception and management. Finally, we describe the design and implementation of DPGL in detail, including rendering command interception layer, rendering command interpretation layer and rendering resource parallelization layer.展开更多
Distribution-based degradation models (or graphical approach in some literature) occur in a wide range of applications. However, few of existing methods have taken the validation of the built model into consideratio...Distribution-based degradation models (or graphical approach in some literature) occur in a wide range of applications. However, few of existing methods have taken the validation of the built model into consideration. A validation methodology for distribution-based models is proposed in this paper. Since the model can be expressed as consisting of assumptions of model structures and embedded model parameters, the proposed methodology carries out the validation from these two aspects. By using appropriate statistical techniques, the rationality of degradation distributions, suitability of fitted models and validity of degradation models are validated respectively. A new statistical technique based on control limits is also proposed, which can be implemented in the validation of degradation models' validity. The case study on degradation modeling of an actual accelerometer shows that the proposed methodology is an effective solution to the validation problem of distribution-based de qradation models.展开更多
The sense of being within a three-dimensional (3D) space and interacting with virtual 3D objects in a computer-generated virtual environment (VE) often requires essential image, vision and sensor signal processing...The sense of being within a three-dimensional (3D) space and interacting with virtual 3D objects in a computer-generated virtual environment (VE) often requires essential image, vision and sensor signal processing techniques such as differentiating and denoising. This paper describes novel implementations of the Gaussian filtering for characteristic signal extraction and waveletbased image denoising algorithms that run on the graphics processing unit (GPU). While significant acceleration over standard CPU implementations is obtained through exploiting data parallelism provided by the modern programmable graphics hardware, the CPU can be freed up to run other computations more efficiently such as artificial intelligence (AI) and physics. The proposed GPU-based Gaussian filtering can extract surface information from a real object and provide its material features for rendering and illumination. The wavelet-based signal denoising for large size digital images realized in this project provided better realism for VE visualization without sacrificing real-time and interactive performances of an application.展开更多
