Among these, cultural biases shape people’s responses to changes in natural resource systems. Several studies have applied grid-group cultural theory to assess the effects of multiple value biases among stakeholders on natural resource management. We developed and administered a questionnaire in the Heihe River Basin(n = 364) in northwestern China to investigate the appropriateness of applying this theory in the Chinese context of natural resource management. The results revealed various cultural biases among the respondents. In descending order of prevalence, these biases were hierarchism(46.98%), individualism(26.65%), egalitarianism(18.96%), and fatalism(2.78%), with the remaining respondents(4.67%) evidencing no obvious bias. Our empirical study revealed respondents’ worldviews and the influence of sociodemographic characteristics on cultural biases, as theoretically posited. Among the variables examined, age had a positive and significant effect across all biases except individualism. The correlation of income to all cultural biases was consistently negative. Only education had a negative and significant effect across all biases. Women were found to adhere to egalitarianism, whereas men adhered to individualism and hierarchism. Thus, grid-group cultural theory was found to be appropriate in the Chinese context, with gender, age, education, and income evidently accounting for cultural biases. Relationships between environmental attitudes and cultural biases conformed with the hypothesis advanced by grid-group cultural theory. This finding may be of value in explaining individuals’ environmental attitudes and facilitating the development and implementation of natural resource-management policies.展开更多

In existing systems, typically tuned PID controllers are engaged to point out the load frequency control (LFC) problems through different tuning techniques. Though, inappropriately tuned PID controller may reveal pitiable dynamical reply and also incorrect option of integral gain may even undermine the complete system. This research is used to explain about an optimized energy management system through Group Search Optimization (GSO) for building incorporation in smart micro-grids (MGs) with zero grid-impact. The essential for this technique is to develop the MG effectiveness, when the complete PI controller requires to be tuned. Consequently, we proposed that the proposed GSO based algorithm with appropriate explanation or member representation, derivation of fitness function, producer process, scrounger process, and ranger process. An entire and adaptable design of MATLAB/SIMULINK also proposed. The related solutions and practical test verifications are given. This paper verified that the proposed method was effective in Micro-Grid (MG) applications. The comparison results demonstrate the advantage of the proposed technique and confirm its potential to solve the problem.展开更多

However, V2G networks suffer from certain security threats, such as EV’s privacy and authentication problem. In this paper, we propose an anonymous group authentication scheme for V2G communications. This scheme realizes dynamic joining and revocation of EVs, and greatly reduces the overhead of EV revocation. Through the theoretical analysis, this scheme can ensure identity privacy of EV user and security of data transmission in the process of charging and discharging.展开更多

The results of simulation experiment show that this approach can significantly reduce the message overhead and use fewer multicast groups.展开更多

Without appropriate privacy protection schemes, electricity customers are faced with various privacy risks. Meanwhile, the natures of smart grids and smart buildings—such as having limited computation power of smart devices and constraints in communication network capabilities, while requiring being highly reliable—make privacy preservation a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a group key scheme to safeguard multicast privacy with the provisions of availability, fault-tolerance, and efficiency in the context of smart buildings as a part the smart grid. In particular, hybrid architecture accommodating both centralized and contributory modes is constructed in order to achieve both fault-tolerance and efficiency with only one set of group key installed. Key trees are sophisticatedly managed to reduce the number of exponentiation operations. In addition, an individual rekeying scheme is introduced for occasional joining and leaving of member smart meters. Experimental results, on a simulation platform, show that our scheme is able to provide significant performance gains over state-of-the-art methods while effectively preserving the participants’ privacy.展开更多
