Lost,Exile and Return-An Analysis of Sheona’s Identity Reconstruction in“Sisters”from the Perspective of Spatial Theory

“Sisters”is the first novel in Irish-American author Colum McCann’s short story collection-Fishing the Sloe-Black River,which tells the story of Sheona’s search for her identity between Ireland and the United States.Colum McCann is skilled in writing about the spiritual dilemmas and identity search of ethnic minorities living in a foreign land.Employing the space theory and Sheona’s perspective,this paper examines her identity loss in Ireland’s patriarchal system,her migration to the US for identity pursuit,and her subsequent transnational journey between the two nations to reconstruct her identity amidst physical and mental trauma.

Identification of Half‑Sisters from Different Mothers by Autosomal and X Chromosomal Short Tandem Repeats:A Case Study

Complex kinship identification such as half‑sibling identification is a difficult task in forensic biology Here we represented an approach in dealing with half‑sisters from different mothers,with the combination of autosomal and X chromosomal short‑tandem repeats(STRs)data.X chromosomal STRs can offer additional information,especially in some cases where autosomal STRs alone may not provide enough information for an accurate opinion.In this case,half‑sister or unrelated relationship between two women(S_(1)and S_(2))with different mothers were distinguished.23 autosomal and 31 X chromosomal STRs of S_(1),S_(2),S_(1)’s mother(M1),S_(2)’s mother(M2)and S_(1)’s grandmother(G1)were profiled with three different commercial kits.As to X‑chromosome STRs,likelihood ratios(LRs)were calculated by FamLinkX with consideration of linkage,linkage disequilibrium,and mutations.When only the profiles of the two individuals(S_(1)and S_(2))were available,LRs between S_(1)and S_(2)were 1.1110×10^(2)based on 23 autosomal STRs and 3.2257 om107 based on 31 X chromosomal STRs.When the maternal genotypes were taken into consideration,LRs increased to 2.5297×10^(3)and 3.0563×10^(18).Therefore,both the DNA profiles of each mothers and X chromosomal STRs are important in dealing with the identification of half‑sisters from different mothers.

报告1例腺癌多发转移合并Sister Mary Joseph结节。患者男,49岁。脐部斑块、结节6个月,腰痛2个月。皮肤科检查:脐部一直径3.5 cm的淡红色浸润性斑块,表面可见多个直径1~5 mm淡红色丘疹、结节,簇集呈菜花样外观,质地坚韧,活动度差。CT检查示纵隔内淋巴结增大,腰3~腰5椎体等多处骨质破坏;锝亚甲基二膦酸盐(^(99m)Tc-MDP)全身骨显像示全身骨骼多处异常放射性浓聚灶。皮损组织病理检查:表皮大致正常,真皮全层致密增生的胶原束间肿瘤细胞呈单个或条索状、列兵样排列,部分肿瘤细胞核大、深染,有明显异形性。免疫组化:细胞角蛋白(CK)、CK7、绒毛蛋白(villin)均阳性表达。腰4椎体针吸组织病理检查符合转移性腺癌,免疫组化示CK及低分子质量细胞角蛋白(CAM)5.2均阳性表达。诊断:腺癌多发转移合并Sister Mary Joseph结节。治疗:患者拒绝接受治疗,随访至13个月时死亡。

Analysis of Narrative Strategies in Colum McCann’s Short Story“Sisters”

As the opening work of“Fishing the Sloe-Black River Stories,”Irish-American writer Colum McCann’s short story“Sisters”has attracted scholars’interest with its profuse historical background and themes of the times.From the perspective of narratology,this paper considers that the writer uses narrative techniques such as non-linear narration and embedded structure to express multi-level narrative voices through a first-person narrator,Sheona.These narrative techniques help to fully reflect the theme of the work and endow the work with great aesthetic and ideological value.

Nb掺杂对微波制备TiCoSb Half-Heusler合金热电性能的提升

基于Half-UNet的乳腺肿块分割方法

乳腺癌是常见的高发病率肿瘤疾病,乳腺肿块分割是乳腺肿瘤分析的重要步骤.为了在保证乳腺肿瘤分割精度的同时提高分割效率,提出了一种基于Half-UNet的乳腺X线摄片图像分割方法.该方法保留了U-Net中分而治之的部分,简化了特征融合的方式.固定U-Net编码器各步骤的特征图通道数以减少网络复杂度的同时有利于解码器的特征融合,并对编码器中的卷积操作增加了he_normal和L2正则化,提升网络性能且缓解网络的过拟合现象.对U-Net解码器的网络结构进行简化,减少网络模型的参数量和训练时间.在DDSM数据集上的实验结果表明:Half-UNet在获得与U-Net、UNet3+模型相近的分割精度的情况下,训练时间相对于U-Net和UNet3+缩短了41.66%和83.33%,显著提升了分割效率.

Is there a connection between synthetic bone grafts and sisters chromatide exchange?

Background: In oral and maxillofacial surgery, synthetic bone grafts are most widely used as bone substitutes, due to the limited sources of autologous bone. The aim of this study was to examine the influence of three different synthetic bone grafts (Cerasorb, Fortoss and Perioglass) on sisters chromatide exchanges (SCEs) in peripheral lymphocytes. Materials and Methods: Peripheral blood samples taken from 68 patients (45 females and 23 males), who underwent oral surgery procedures, such as apical resection, cyst enucleation or periodontal curretage, were obtained for SCE a day before and two months after the surgeries. A control group included 30 patients, while the study group was made of the patients who underwent bone grafting with Cerasorb? (11 patients), Fortoss? VITAL (10 patients) or Perioglass? (17 patients). Results: Comparing with the results of the study group before and after the treatment, it was concluded that the results were statistically significant (p = 0.001). In the Perioglass? subgroup, a greater statistical significance (p = 0.003) was noted, than that in either the Cerasorb? (p = 0.620) or Fortoss? (p = 0.210) subgroups, in which there was no statistical significance. Conclusions: Although further investigations may be necessary, our results suggest that the synthetic bone grafts might have an influence on SCE in peripheral lymphocytes.

Women’s Voices in the Victorian Era-Feminist Consciousness in the Bronte Sisters’Works

Before the Victorian era,it was rare for women to be authors and writers to fix the protagonists of their works as female characters.However,in the 19^(th)century,there was a rapid increase of women writers and emphasis on feminist consciousness.Among all the works of women writers,Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights which were written by the Bronte sisters were distinctive.The Bronte sisters conveyed their feminist consciousness and described the society in their works.Both works emphasized romantic relationships as the narrative thread.By shaping the female characters in their works as self-reliant women who fought for equivalence and freedom in the era where male chauvinism occupied leadership roles,the Bronte sisters conveyed their eagerness for freedom,equality,and their feminist consciousness.This paper combines features of the Victorian era and the Bronte sisters’life experiences to analyze feminist consciousness in these two works and make comparisons between them.

Long-term survival of the Sister Mary Joseph nodule originating from breast cancer:A case report

BACKGROUND A Sister Mary Joseph nodule(SMJN)is an uncommon cutaneous metastasis found in the umbilicus,indicating an advanced malignancy.SMJNs typically originate from intra-abdominal sources,rarely from breast cancer.Diagnosis suggests a poor prognosis with a median survival of approximately 8 mo after detection.Managing patients with SMJNs is challenging,as most receive limited palliative care only.The optimal strategy for long-term survival of these patients remains unclear.CASE SUMMARY A 58-year-old female,previously diagnosed with right breast cancer 17 years ago and underwent breast-conserving surgery,adjuvant radiotherapy,and endocrine therapy,presented with a 2-cm umbilical nodule.Thirteen years previously,metastases were detected in the right supraclavicular,infraclavicular,hilar,and mediastinal lymph nodes.An umbilical nodule emerged four years before the date of presentation,confirmed as a skin metastasis of primary breast cancer upon excisional biopsy.Despite initial removal,the nodule recurred and grew,leading to her referral to our hospital.The patient underwent extensive excision of the umbilical tumor and immediate abdominal wall reconstruction.Endocrine therapy was continued postoperatively.Five years later,no local recurrence was observed,and the patient continued to work full-time,achieving over 9 years of survival following SMJN diagnosis.CONCLUSION This case study aimed to identify the optimal strategy for achieving extended survival outcomes in patients with SMJN through comprehensive treatment.We presented a case of the longest survival in a patient after undergoing a multidisciplinary treatment regimen.Our findings underscore the significance of adopting a multimodal treatment approach comprising timely and wide excision along with adjunctive therapy.This approach can control the disease,prolong survival,and improve the quality of life in patients with SMJN.
