In the present paper, the therapeutic effect of hand acupuncture, moxibustion and electroacupuncture (EA) is observed in the treatment of 46 cases of peripheral facial paralysis (treatment group) and compared with that of Western medicines (prednisone, Vitamin B1 and B12, dibazol) in other 42 facial palsy patients. Acupoints used are Fenchi (GB 20), Yifeng (TE 17), Taiyang (LR 3), Yangbai (GB 14), Cuanzhu (BL 2), Yingxiang (LI 20), Dicang (ST 4), Shuigou (GV 26), Chengjiang (CV 24), Xiaguan (ST 7) and Jiache (ST 6). Following 20 - 30 sessions of treatment, results show that the therapeutic effect of treatment group is significantly superior to that of Western medicine group and the therapeutic duration of the former group is shorter. 展开更多

Objective:This study is conducted to determine the effects of SOOJI CHIM(Koryo hand acupuncture,KHA)therapy on sleep structures and perimenopause symptoms among insomniacs. Methods:Totally 49 participants who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in a two-arm randomized, placebo controlled,patients-blind trial, with 24 cases allocated to a real-KHA group and 25 cases allocated to a sham-KHA group.Patients in each group received corresponding treatment every other day, three times a week for total eight weeks. Both actigraphy and testing of serum hormones level reflected by biological markers such as follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),luteinizing hormone(LH)and estradiol(E2)were performed at pre-and post-treatment.Additionally,the scores of Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)was used for assessing the subjective sleep experience of insomniacs.Meanwhile, adverse effects were monitored and recorded. Results:After eight-week treatment, the global scores of PSQI declined significantly(P<0.05)in the realKHA group but not in the sham-KHA group(P>0.05).According to the outcomes of actigraphy,a striking increase was observed in both sleep efficiency(SE)and total sleep time(TST)in the real-KHA group(both P<0.05)but not in the sham-KHA group(P>0.05).However,no significant changes of sleep awakenings(SA)in both groups was found after treatment(both P>0.05).Meanwhile,FSH and LH in the real-KHA group decreased markedly after intervention(both P<0.05)while those indicators only slightly changed in the sham-KHA group(P>0.05).The fluctuation of E2 levels were not significant in both groups(both P>0.05).No serious adverse event was reported in either real-or sham-KHA group. Conclusion:KHA may be a potential alternative therapy for improving perimenopausal insomnia via down regulating the levels of FSH and LH. 展开更多

Objective:To observe the clinical effects of"hand and foot 12 needle acupuncture"on stroke in convalescent period of phlegm-dampness constitution. Methods:The 90 patients were divided into the treatment group(n=45)and the control group(n=45)according to the random number table method. The control group received basic Western medicine treatment+rehabilitation treatment of Western medicine, and the treatment group was additively treated with"hand and foot 12 needle acupuncture"on the basis of the control group.NIHSS score,MRS score and Barthel index(BI)before and after treatment were observed in the two groups, and the clinical efficacy of the two groups was compared. Results:The clinical efficacy of stroke patients in the convalescent period of phlegm-dampness constitution after treatment:the total effective rate of the treatment group was 93.33%,and the total effective rate of the control group was 66.67%.After statistical processing, the clinical efficacy of the treatment group was significantly better than the control group;NIHSS score,MRS score and Barthel index(BI)were better than the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:"Hand and foot 12 needle acupuncture"treatment of phlegm-dampness constitution convalescent stroke clinical effect is remarkable. 展开更多

Stimulation at specific acupoints can activate cortical regions in human subjects.Previous studies have mainly focused on a single brain region. However, the brain is a network and many brain regions participate in the same task. The study of a single brain region alone cannot clearly explain any brain-related issues. Therefore, for the present study, magnetic stimulation was used to stimulate the Neiguan(PC6) acupoint, and 32-channel electroencephalography data were recorded before and after stimulation.Brain functional networks were constructed based on electroencephalography data to determine the relationship between magnetic stimulation at the PC6 acupoint and cortical excitability. Results indicated that magnetic stimulation at the PC6 acupoint increased connections between cerebral cortex regions. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of acupuncture on motility of jejunum and distal colon at different acupoints on normal Kunming mice.METHODS:The jejunal and colorectal motor activity of forty Kunming mice were recorded by the intra-intestinal capsule. The capsules contained with distilled water were placed into the cavities of jejunum and distal colon. The changes of bowel were compared with the background activity recorded before any stimulation. The chosen acupoints were as follows:Zusanli(ST 36) on the lower legs,Tianshu(ST 25) on the mid-lower abdomen.RESULTS:Manual acupuncture(MA) at Zusanli(ST36) significantly promoted the motility of jejunum and distal colon(manifested as increased change rate of average amplitude and increased change rate of mean area under the contractile curve) of normal Kunming mice(P < 0.01).MA atTianshu(ST25) significantly inhibited the motility of jejunum(manifested as decreased change rate of average amplitude, decreased change rate of mean area under the contractile curve, and the reduced frequency) of normal Kunming mice(P < 0.01),while significantly increased the distal colonic motility(manifested as increased amplitude and increased mean area under the contractile curve) of normal Kunming mice(P < 0.01).CONCLUSION:MA at specific acupoints[Zusanli(ST 36),Tianshu(ST 25)]has different effects on the motility of jejunum and distal colon, which might involve the segmental innervations of the related nerve. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE: To investigate beneficial effects of manual acupuncture on common cold periods and its symptoms depended on the difference onset time of common cold, within 36 h or over than that. To prove effects of manual acupuncture on common cold, a retrospective chart review was conducted.METHODS: Chart data for patients with commoncold who were treated with only manual acupuncture with fulfilling Jackson scales and satisfaction at the end of each treatment were collected via multi-centers of Oriental hospitals,Oriental medicine clinics and covalent hospital in South Korea. Totally 187 patients were divided into two groups, Group Ⅰ(115 patients, within 36 h)and Group Ⅱ(72 patients, onset time of cold over than 36 h). Finally 120 patients were observed until entire resolution of cold symptoms.RESULTS: GroupⅠ showed significant decreases themediandurationsofcompletelyrecovery(3 days;95% CI 3.0-4.0) as compared with Group Ⅱ(6 days;95% CI 4.0-7.0, P < 0.001). The manual acupuncture beneficially worked for reduction rate of common cold symptoms by 50% after initial treatment, decreased cold symptoms, and reduced cold duration.CONCLUSION: Manual acupuncture beneficially affected common cold and its symptoms. Moreover it is more susceptibility on the early time of onset cold. 展开更多
