Approximately 80% of these NCD-related deaths occur in LMICs. A quasi-experimental study utilizing a non-equivalent pre-and post-test was conducted from May 2022 to March 2023 with 370 study participants. Multistage cluster and random sampling were used to select ten community units, and therefore, 150 CHVs were chosen for the control unit, and 150 were used to form the interventional group. Data was collected from the KOBO app. Six (6) homogenous FGDs comprised ten members, and 10 KII were conducted across study sites. Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS version 28.0, and qualitative data was audio-recorded, transcribed, and analyzed via N-Vivo 12. The study shows that 59.3% of respondents have minimal information, and 92.7% (n = 139) have no clear understanding of NCDs, with a pre-intervention capacity of 48.8%. Independent sample t-test showed a significant difference in capacity from a pre-intervention average of 48.75 (SD ± 5.7)%, which increased to 68.28 (SD ± 7.6)%, p < 0.001. A well-designed community interventional model plays a pivotal role in grassroots healthcare delivery but requires optimization for NCD management. 展开更多

Background:Understanding how to improve mental health literacy is conducive to maintaining and promoting individuals’mental health and well-being.However,to date, interventions for mental health literacy primarily depend on traditional education and contact interventions, which have limitations with regard to pertinence and individualization.Artificial intelligence(AI)and big data technology have influenced mental health services to be more intellectual and digital, and they also provide greater technical convenience for individualized interventions for promoting mental health literacy. However, there is relatively little research on the effectiveness of individualized online intervention for mental health literacy in the literature. This study aims to fill this void.To verify whether individualized online intervention can improve the level of mental health literacy. Methods:We conducted a pretest–post-test control experiment. The participants were recruited from a large community located in central China.A total of 152 participants completed the research. We use mixed linear model estimation and paired t-tests to analyze the data. Results:Individualized online intervention can effectively improve the mental health literacy level of participants.Specifically,we found that compared with the control group, the mental health literacy in the experimental group was significantly improved after receiving individualized online intervention.Likewise, the mental health literacy of the control group has also improved after receiving individualized online intervention. In addition,we compared the mental health literacy level of the experimental group at Time 3 to those at Time 2 and found that the mental health literacy level at Time 3 had not decreased one month later. This shows that individualized online intervention was not only momentarily effective, but also had long-term efficacy. Conclusion:This study illustrates that the individualized online intervention has both great momentary and long-term effectiveness in improving community residents’mental health literacy. 展开更多

Objective To investigate the social mental state of drug addicts in a compulsive drug abuse treatment center; evaluate the effectiveness of integrated program for the prevention of abuse relapse and improvement of drug addicts' psychological health. Methods The study subjects were addicts from the Wuhan Compulsive Drug Abuse Treatment Center between October 2003 and June 2004, who satisfied the inclusion criteria. A non-randomized control-intervention study design was adopted. Volunteers willing to take part in intervention were put into the intervention group with their full awareness and willingness to prevent drug abuse relapse. The control group was composed of the addicts who were willing to prevent relapse and to be followed up after their discharge. Results The effectiveness of the integrated intervention program in promoting addicts' psychological health: before the intervention, the scores of Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), the positive and negative dimensionalities of Simple Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ) and Chinese Perceived Stress Scales (CPSS) had no significant differences between the intervention group and the control group. After the intervention, except that the SCSQ's positive dimensionality in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group, other indices in the intervention group were lower. Before and after the intervention, the psychological health level in both the groups was lower than that in the normal population; there were significant differences between addicts and normal subjects in regards with all of the indices above. Conclusion Drug abuse was associated closely with addicts' social mental factors. The integrated intervention program can alleviate anxiety and stress, reduce co-morbid mental disorders and effectively improve their coping style. In conclusion, the program can promote addicts' psychological health significantly. 展开更多

Fifty percent of individuals aged over 60 are reported at risk of social isolation and one-third will experience some degree of loneliness later in life. Isolation and loneliness have been reported as having negative consequences for mental and physical health and mortality. Existing supportive interventions, even when successful are not widely adopted or utilized. A developmental, mixed methods approach was taken to building and testing the components and delivery of an intervention, Making the Connection (MTC) in preparation for mounting a larger, systematic test. Method: The approach relied upon the six steps of 6sQuID for the development of public health interventions: 1) Define and understand the problem and its causes. 2) Clarify which causal or contextual factors are malleable. 3) Identify how to bring about change. 4) Identify how to deliver the change mechanism. 5) Test and refine on small scale. 6) Collect sufficient evidence of effectiveness to justify rigorous evaluation/implementation. Depressive symptoms, how often people felt lonely, and size of social networks were quantitatively measured and analyzed. Qualitative measures were also used. Findings: All six steps in the 6sQuiD model were followed in building the intervention for potential testing. In an initial test within CCRC facilities, five loneliness-related areas were examined qualitatively and identified as potentially modifiable. Testing of a subsequent 10-session gamified intervention established trends for reduced reports of symptoms of depression, and increases in social connections. Pre and post-test found there was a statistically significant reduction in reports of loneliness in the past week. Discussion: Making the Connection manualized intervention appears both feasible and viable, a necessary first step to prepare for more systematic evaluation in a randomized control trial. 展开更多

Background: Non-adherence to tuberculosis (TB) treatment might prolong disease transmission and also increases the risk of drug resistance. Various studies have been carried out to determine the predictors of non-adherence but intervention-based studies to address treatment adherence are scarce. This study intends to estimate the treatment adherence rates following delivery of patient-centered health education videos in the intervention tuberculosis unit (TU) and to compare the treatment adherence with that in the comparison TU. Methods: An interventional study was conducted in two TUs of Bengaluru urban district among all newly diagnosed TB cases on daily regimen treatment over a period of three months from November 2017 to January 2018. A patient centered health education video was developed and shown by the treatment supporters to all eligible participants consenting to participate in the intervention TU. The video was shown once at the beginning of intensive phase treatment and once in the continuation phase of treatment. A total of 100 patients, 21 from intervention TU and 79 from comparison TU formed the study sample. Patient details were obtained from their treatment cards. Data on missed doses per month per patient were also noted. Data were entered into Microsoft excel worksheet and analyzed using statistical package for social sciences. Data are expressed as frequency and percentages. Chi-square test was applied to compare groups. Results: The majority of the study participants were aged between 25 - 44 years. Equal distribution of cases was seen among males and females. Intervention TU had significantly higher number of pulmonary TB cases. Treatment adherence rates were 90.5% and 84.8% at end of intensive phase and 85% and 71.4% at end of continuation phase in the intervention and comparison TU respectively, and this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Use of mobile video-based health education showed better treatment rates and was found to improve TB treatment adherence. 展开更多

This paper examines the bidirectional relationship between heart failure (HF) and cognitive impairment, underscoring the need for integrated intervention strategies to address these interconnected conditions effectively. Cognitive deficits often hinder the effective management of HF, leading to poorer treatment adherence and health outcomes, while the physiological stress of HF can further impair cognitive function, creating a complex interplay that complicates patient care. This study highlights the effectiveness of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) in improving both cardiac and cognitive functions. By targeting the underlying physiological and neurobiological mechanisms of HF, these therapies enhance patient outcomes, leading to better adherence to treatment regimens and overall quality of life. Furthermore, the findings suggest that regular cognitive assessments should be integrated into HF management protocols, enabling early identification of cognitive impairment and timely intervention. Incorporating ACE inhibitors and CRT into standard care practices not only addresses the complexities of managing HF and cognitive decline but also fosters a holistic approach to patient health. Ultimately, this multifaceted strategy has the potential to significantly improve health outcomes, enhance the quality of care, and support sustainable management of patients with heart failure and cognitive impairment. 展开更多

Sexual and reproductive health problems among adolescents are increasing in trend. Inadequate knowledge of sexual and reproductive health is the main cause of problems in sexual and reproductive health. Short messages service (SMS) intervention has been implemented widely in health education and the outcomes are positive. Hence, this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of mobile phone messaging in improving sexual and reproductive health among late adolescents (age 18 - 19 years old). A quasi-experimental study was conducted in two Professional Vocasional Colleges in Malaysia. A total of 116 respondents in the intervention group and 130 respondents in the control group had completed the study. There was a series of 24 messages (SMS) sent to the respondents biweekly for 12 weeks. The adolescent girls (mean knowledge score 15.90, sd ± 3.321) in the intervention group had a significantly (P = 0.007) higher mean score in knowledge of sexual and reproductive health than boys (mean knowledge score 13.87, sd ± 4.003) at post intervention. The adolescent boys (mean knowledge scores 15.35, sd ± 4.748) in the control group had a significantly (P = 0.009) higher mean score for knowledge on HIV/AIDS than girls (mean scores 13.08, sd ± 4.325) at post intervention. In the intervention group, the number of respondents with good knowledge and good attitude on HIV/AIDS increased at 3 months post intervention. SMS intervention on knowledge of sexual and reproductive health for adolescents was accepted and effectively improved the knowledge scores and sustained even after 3 months post intervention. Therefore, the SMS intervention should be implemented as an intervention package to improve knowledge and reduce risk in developing sexual and health related problems among adolescents. 展开更多
