The article demonstrates that health belief model(HBM)-based health education in hypertensive patients effectively improves blood pressure control and medication adherence at 3 months and 6 months. The HBM addresses perceived barriers, benefits, susceptibility, severity, and self-efficacy,leading to better health behaviors.HBM-based education has been effective in various contexts, including managing chronic diseases, promoting cancer screenings, and preventing infectious diseases. However, the model has limitations, such as cultural applicability and addressing complex health behaviors influenced by environmental factors.Future research should integrate HBM with other theories and conduct longitudinal studies to assess long-term impacts.Despite these limitations,HBM-based education significantly improves patient outcomes, highlighting its potential in health education and promotion when appropriately adapted and implemented. This reinforces the model's value in designing effective health interventions and advancing public health. 展开更多

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an infectious disease caused by HIV It has been epidemic formore than 20 years, but there is no cure of it. Health educationand behavioral interventions are some of the most effectiveapproaches in the control and prevention of AIDS. China isone of the countries with the fastest growing HIVseroprevalence rate, and is facing a widespread epidemic ofAIDS. Currently, high-risk populations such as individualswith multiple sexual partners and intravenous drug users arethe main foci of health education and behavioral interventionsin China. Encouraging results have been observed in manyforms of health education and behavioral intervention. Theapplication of health education and behavioral interventionsmust emerge from scientific evidence, follow a series ofstrategies, be carried out from various perspectives, andrequire the participation of all societal communities. 展开更多

Background: Non-adherence to tuberculosis (TB) treatment might prolong disease transmission and also increases the risk of drug resistance. Various studies have been carried out to determine the predictors of non-adherence but intervention-based studies to address treatment adherence are scarce. This study intends to estimate the treatment adherence rates following delivery of patient-centered health education videos in the intervention tuberculosis unit (TU) and to compare the treatment adherence with that in the comparison TU. Methods: An interventional study was conducted in two TUs of Bengaluru urban district among all newly diagnosed TB cases on daily regimen treatment over a period of three months from November 2017 to January 2018. A patient centered health education video was developed and shown by the treatment supporters to all eligible participants consenting to participate in the intervention TU. The video was shown once at the beginning of intensive phase treatment and once in the continuation phase of treatment. A total of 100 patients, 21 from intervention TU and 79 from comparison TU formed the study sample. Patient details were obtained from their treatment cards. Data on missed doses per month per patient were also noted. Data were entered into Microsoft excel worksheet and analyzed using statistical package for social sciences. Data are expressed as frequency and percentages. Chi-square test was applied to compare groups. Results: The majority of the study participants were aged between 25 - 44 years. Equal distribution of cases was seen among males and females. Intervention TU had significantly higher number of pulmonary TB cases. Treatment adherence rates were 90.5% and 84.8% at end of intensive phase and 85% and 71.4% at end of continuation phase in the intervention and comparison TU respectively, and this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Use of mobile video-based health education showed better treatment rates and was found to improve TB treatment adherence. 展开更多

Objective: To explore effective ways of conducting STD/AIDS health education among female commercial sex workers in entertainment establishments and to promote implementation of an 100% condom use programme. Methods: In-depth interviews were carried out to collect qualitative information about demographic characteristics, STD/AIDS knowledge, attitude and risk behaviors of female sex workers. Female sex workers were selected by sampling and were given baseline survey and assessment after intervention. Based on the results of the interviews, a questionnaire was developed, and intervention measures were determined. These measures included face-to-face interviewing, counseling, and distribution of STD/AIDS information and condoms. Results: 196 and 182 female sex workers of the same population were interviewed separately before and after intervention. STDs/AIDS knowledge had significantly increased after one year's intervention (P <0.01). Knowledge increased in both the intervention group and the non-intervention group but the increase was more significant among sex workers who received the intervention. Risk behaviors remained at baseline levels in both groups. Conclusion: STD/AIDS health education among female sex workers in entertainment establishments was effective and may benefit society, but the strategies need to be adjusted to the female sex workers' lifestyles, particularly their high rates of mobility and high-risk behaviors. 展开更多

Health education is essential for the control of diseases such as malaria. School-age children represent 25% of Yemen’s population. Schools children can convey the knowledge and skills that they acquire at school to the community, thus increasing general community awareness about malaria. Aim to determine the impact of school-based malaria education intervention on knowledge, attitude and practice of school children towards malaria prevention and control. <strong>Methods: </strong>We conducted a community-based trial, intervention and non-intervention comparison (exposed & non-exposed), in four randomly selected districts (rural and urban) of Taiz governorate. This study was conducted in four districts of Taiz governorate. The study population was 2130 pupils of grade 6, 7, and 8 in primary schools, chosen from four randomly selected districts;two of them were rural and the others urban. Four schools and their pupils (1065 pupils) were chosen for the study and assigned as an intervention group and four schools with their pupils (1065) were chosen for the study and assigned as a non-intervention (1065 pupils). Data were collected using questioner in intervention and non-intervention schools (three months apart). The major intervention activities included lectures about malaria, distribution of educational materials. χ2 was used to analyze differences. <strong>Results: </strong>Health education activities in schools were associated with the increased knowledge of malaria symptoms and methods of prevention. The mean knowledge of malaria symptoms is higher in the intervention schools 4.4 ± 1.9, compared with 2.1 ± 1.4 in the non-intervention group. With statistically significant difference (P < 0.001), also the positive attitude and practice toward malaria was higher to be (48%) in the intervention group;compared with (35%) in the non-intervention group the difference was statistically significant. The knowledge of mode of malaria transmission was higher in the intervention schools to be (86.2%) compared with (59.1%) in the non-intervention group, with statistically significant deference (P value <0.001). The knowledge of fever as a main malaria symptom was higher to be (90.4%) in the intervention schools compared with (63.6%) in the non-intervention schools with statistically significant deference. <strong>Conclusions and Recommendation: </strong>This study concludes that the health education intervention in primary schools in Taize governorate had a positive impact on the knowledge, attitude and practice of pupils. We recommend to conduct similar methods of the health education activities in schools with suitable modifications to reach all schools level. </p> 展开更多

The prevalence of periodontal disease among pregnant women increases with gestational age. Therefore, oral health education in the early stage of pregnancy should prevent periodontal disease and decrease the risk of an adverse pregnancy outcome such as preterm delivery and low birth weight. However, there has been no study on oral health care intervention for prevention of periodontal disease during pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficiency of an oral health education program on periodontal disease among Japanese low-risk pregnant women. A total of 207 pregnant women before 20 weeks of gestation were recruited. The first 131 of them were assigned to the control group and the remaining 76 to the experimental group. The experiment participants received an oral health education program including the toothpick brushing method in their early stage of pregnancy. Improvement of the self-assessment score of periodontal symptoms was used as a binary outcome variable. A logistic regression analysis indicated that the intervention (OR = 3.83) and proficiency of the toothpick brushing method (OR = 24.93) were statistically significant predictors of the outcome in the late stage of pregnancy. The positive outcome appeared after practice of the toothpick method brushing for 20 or more weeks, and was associated with the decrease in the log-transformed proportion of the count of Candida species in salivary microbiota (p = 0.026). 展开更多

A number of evaluations of health education interventions in developing countries for the reduction of neonatal mortality have been reported. These interventions can be divided into two categories: those which include medical professionals and those without medical professionals. No systematic review has yet been performed that compares these two types of interventions. This study is an attempt to determine whether the inclusion of medical professionals in health education interventions more greatly decreases neonatal mortality in developing countries. Databases were searched for impact evaluation studies which: 1) had both experimental and control groups, 2) conducted both pre-tests and post-tests, 3) identified the intervention as a health education package, 4) were published in peer reviewed journals, 5) used neonatal mortality as an outcome measure, and 6) were undertaken in developing countries A total 14 studies were found that fit these criteria---eight of these studies included medical professionals in the intervention, and six studies were without medical professionals. To calculate the net effect of each intervention, both the difference-in-difference method and the use of log odds ratios were tested. Interventions involving medical professionals had significantly lower neonatal mortality rates than those without medical professionals. Interventions meant to decrease neonatal mortality in developing countries are recommended to involve medical professionals. 展开更多

Nowadays, there is a trend of HIV prevalence transmitting from high-risk group to average-risk group in China. Rural China is the weak link of HIV prevention, and rural areas of Henan province which is one of the most high-risk regions in China have more than 60% of the AIDS patients in the province. Thus, improving the HIV awareness and implementing health education become the top-priority of HIV/AIDS control and prevention. A multistage sampling was designed to draw 1129 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) and 1168 non-PLWHAs in 4 prevalence counties of Henan province. A health promoting and social-psychological support model was constructed to improve the health knowledge of participants. Chi-square tests and unconditional logistic regression were performed to determine the intervention effect and influencing factors. All groups had misunderstandings towards the basic medical knowledge and the AIDS transmission mode. Before the intervention, 59.3% of the HIV/AIDS patients and 74.6% of the healthy people had negative attitudes towards the disease. There was statistically significant difference in the improvement of knowledge, attitude and action with regards to HIV prevention before and after intervention (P〈0.05). PLWHAs who were males (OR=l.731) and had higher education level (OR=1.910) were found to have better HIV/AIDS health knowledge, whereas older PLWHAs (OR=0.961) were less likely to have better HIV/AIDS health knowledge. However, the intervention effect was associated with the expertise of doctors and supervisors, the content and methods of education, and participants' education level. It was concluded that health education of HIV/AIDS which positively influences the awareness and attitude of HIV prevention is popular in rural areas, therefore, a systematic and long-term program of HIV control and prevention is urgently needed in rural areas. 展开更多

Increasing numbers of overweight and obese children resulting from sedentary and abundant lifestyles are a health concern in Hong Kong and other affluent communities around the globe. The importance of physical activity is well documented for health and wellbeing, with sedentary behavior emerging as an independent risk factor for chronic diseases and mortality. In this study, Pender’s Health-Promotion Model informed the development of an intervention program aimed to engage junior high school students in increased physical activity, specifically brisk-walking. The model set out to motivate participants to engage in behaviors to enhance their health across the life span, including developing self-efficacy with regard to brisk walking. The intervention featured four stages. First, participants were provided with information about the benefits and in stage two were trained in the technique of brisk walking. Next they engaged in the brisk walking program and in stage four were encouraged to serve as health ambassadors by introducing brisk walking and its associated benefits to others, thereby exercising peer influence to diffuse the practice of brisk walking more widely among members of the community. Motivational strategies were used as incentives in the program, including the involvement of a popular singing band to award certificates at the completion of the program. This 7-week intervention program including a 4-week brisk walking component was conducted in a high school context with 71 participants. Data were collected to enable paired-sample t-tests to be conducted to statistically analyze the data at pre- and post-intervention. Findings indicate significant differences among the mean Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR), knowledge and attitudes of the participants at pre- and post-intervention. These findings suggest that the intervention was effective as a strategy to reduce sedentary behavior with the concomitant effect of positive shifts in measurable indicators and attitudes. 展开更多
