Methods: Fifty-three cases with herpes zoster were randomly divided into two groups. Thirty-one cases in the treatment group were treated with EA at Jiaji (EX-B 2) points plus local collateral-pricking and cupping therapy. Twenty-two cases in the control group were treated with oral administration of VaLacido~;ir Hvdrochloride and Indomethaci~. Results: The curative and remarkable effective rate was 93.5% in the treatment group and 72.7% in the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P〈0.01), indicating that EA plus collateral-pricking and cupping therapy is better than Western medications in the clinical effects for herpes zoster. Conclusion: The EA plus collateral-pricking and cupping method is an effective therapy for herpes zoster.展开更多

The patient stated that he suddenly got a sharp burning pain in the left hypochondrium in mid July. The pain gradually radiated to the upper abdominal area, meanwhile red herpes appeared in the hypochondriac region. He had been diagnosed as having herpes zoster, and treated in several nearby hospitals with fluid infusion and medication. As a result, the herpes partly disappeared. But the sharp burning pain still remained, which could not be relieved by administration of analgetics. The patient was then recommended by his friends for treatment here. The patient used to be in a anxious state of mind, and had a wiry pulse and disorder of the liver-qi. The patients had been disturbed by problems of his students and worried about his aged mother's illness, and had poor sleep. Physical examination showed that the patient had a slightly fat figure and sickly complexion, but was in a clear mind. His blood pressure was 140/90 mmHg, and heart rate 75 times/min. No abnormal signs were found in the heart and lungs. Prominent dark red herpes with obvious local tenderness was found on the skin surface of the left hypochondrium and upper abdome.展开更多

Methods: Eighty-three HZ patients were divided into two groups according to their admission sequence, 41 cases in the thin-cotton moxibustion group and 42 cases in the Western medication group. The thin-cotton moxibustion group received thin-cotton moxibustion on the surface of lesions plus surround needling around the lesions, once a day. The Western medication group was intervened by Acyclovir intravenous injection, 0.25 g per dose, once a day, along with external application of Acyclovir cream 3-5 times a day. After 10-day treatment, the blister-healing time, crusting time, pain-reducing time, onset time of action, lesion-healed time, and occurrence of post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) were compared. Results: During the study, a case dropped out in the thin-cotton moxibustion group, and 2 cases dropped out in the Western medication group. The recovery and markedly-effective rate was 92.5% and total effective rate was 97.5% in the thin-cotton moxibustion group, versus 72.5% and 87.5% in the Western medication group, and the between-group differences were statistically significant (P^0.05). The blister-healing time, crusting time, pain-reducing time, onset time of action and lesion-healed time in the thin-cotton moxibustion group were significantly shorter than those in the Western medication group (P〈0.05). The occurrence rate of PHN was 2.07% in the thin-cotton moxibustion group, significantly lower than 9.19% in the Western medication group (P〈0.01). Conclusion: Thin-cotton moxibustion plus surround needling can produce a more significant efficacy than Acyclovir in treating HZ, and it can markedly reduce the occurrence of PHN.展开更多

Methods Sixty-two patients with herpes zoster were randomly divided into two groups according to attendance number, 32 in acupuncture group and 30 in western medicine group. The patients in the acupuncture group were treated by acupuncture at the nidus-related nerve segments Jiaji (夹脊 EX-B2) in combination with direct moxibustion with fine-strip moxa, while the patients in the western medicine group were treated by oral valaciclovir hydrochloride, vitamin B1, vitamin B12. The times of response, incrustation and decrustation were observed respectively, and pain relief degree of the two groups were compared. Results The response time, incrustation time and decrustation time of the acupuncture group were all less than those of the western medicine group [(1.74±0.43) days vs (3.86±0.58) days, (2.03±0.52) days vs (5.46±0.65) days, (5.14±0.33) days vs (8.34±0.59) days, all P〈O.05]. The pain relief degree (VAS score), and pain duration in the acupuncture group were all higher obviously than those of the western medicine group [(10.41±12.1) vs (15.63±11.39), (4.78±0.45) days vs (8.12±0.63) days, all P〈O.05]. The total effective rate of the acupuncture group was 96.9% (31/32)and that of the western medicine group was 90% (27/30), thus the therapeutic effect of acupuncture group was better than that of western medicine group (P〈0.05). Conclusion The therapeutic effect of acupuncture combined with direct moxibustion with fine-strip moxa is remarkable. It can effectively control the development of herpes zoster, alleviate pain and shorten therapy periods. It is worthy to be promoted and applied.
