Energy consumption can be reduced by not only hardware design but also software design. In this paper, we propose an energy-aware scheduling algorithm with equalized frequency, called EASEF, for parallel applications on heterogeneous computing systems. The EASEF approach aims to minimize the finish time and overall energy consumption. First, EASEF extracts the set of paths from an application. Then, it reconstructs the application based on the extracted set of paths to achieve a reasonable schedule. Finally, it adopts a progressive way to equalize the frequency of tasks to reduce the total energy consumption of systems. Randomly generated applications and two real-world applications are examined in our experiments. Experimental results show that the EASEF algorithm outperforms two existing algorithms in terms of makespan and energy consumption.展开更多

The projects at aiming at addressing three technical issues. First, the factors of heterogeneity and time-sharing effects make traditional performance models/metrics for homogeneous computing performance measurement and evaluation not. suitable for bet.erogeneous computing. We develop practical models and metrics which quantify. the heterogeneity of networks and characterize the performance effects. Second, in order to perform parallel computation effectively, special system support is necessary. We are developing system schemes for heterogeneity management, process scheduling and efficient communications. Finally, to provide insight into system performance, we are developing two types of supporting tools : a graphical instrumentation monitor to aid users in investigating performance problems and in determining the most effective way of exploiting the NOW systems, and a trace-driven simulator to test and compare different system management and scheduling schemes.展开更多

文摘Mesozoic-Palaeozoic marine carbonate rocks are crucial hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Central Uplift area of the South Yellow Sea Basin(SYSB).Due to the scarcity of boreholes and the significant heterogeneity of carbonate reservoirs, the distribution of porous carbonate reservoirs and their related key controlling factors remain unclear. In this study, factors affecting the distribution of porous Carboniferous-Early Permian carbonate reservoirs in the SYSB were investigated through seismic inversion and isotope analysis. The log-seismic characteristics of porous carbonate reservoirs, sensitive lithology parameters, and physical property parameters were extracted and analyzed. The pre-stack simultaneous inversion technique was applied to predict the lithology and physical properties of porous carbonate reservoirs. Moreover, the sedimentary of carbonate was analyzed using isotopes of carbon, oxygen, and strontium. The results show that porous carbonate reservoirs are mainly developed in the open platform sediments with porosities of 3%-5%and are mainly distributed in the paleo-highland(Huanglong Formation and Chuanshan Formation)and the slope of paleo-highland(Hezhou Formation). The porous carbonate reservoirs of the Qixia Formation are only locally developed. In addition, the negativeδ13C excursions indicate a warm and humid tropical climate with three sea-level fluctuations in the study area from the Carboniferous to Early Permian. The favorable conditions for developing porous carbonate rocks include the sedimentary environment and diagenetic process. The primary pore tends to form in high-energy environments of the paleo-highland,and the secondary pore is increased by dissolution during the syngenetic or quasi-syngenetic period.According to the hydrocarbon potential analysis, the Late Ordovician Wufeng Formation and Lower Silurian Gaojiabian Formation are the source rocks in the high-maturity-over-maturity stage, the Carboniferous-Lower Permian carbonate is the good reservoirs, and the Late Permian Longtan-Dalong Formation is the stable seal, ensuring a huge hydrocarbon accumulation potential in SYSB.The methods proposed in this study can be applied to other carbonate-dominated strata worldwide.
文摘Clay deposits typically exhibit significant degrees of heterogeneity and anisotropy in their strength and stiffness properties.Such non-monotonic responses can significantly impact the stability analysis and design of overlying shallow foundations. In this study, the undrained bearing capacity of shallow foundations resting on inhomogeneous and anisotropic clay layers subjected to oblique-eccentric combined loading is investigated through a comprehensive series of finite element limit analysis(FELA)based on the well-established lower-bound theorem and second-order cone programming(SOCP).The heterogeneity of normally consolidated(NC)clays is simulated by adopting a well-known general model of undrained shear strength increasing linearly with depth. In contrast, for overconsolidated(OC)clays, the variation of undrained shear strength with depth is considered to follow a bilinear trend.Furthermore, the inherent anisotropy is accounted for by adopting different values of undrained shear strength along different directions within the soil medium, employing an iterative-based algorithm. The results of numerical simulations are utilized to investigate the influences of natural soil heterogeneity and inherent anisotropy on the ultimate bearing capacity, failure envelope, and failure mechanism of shallow foundations subjected to the various combinations of vertical-horizontal(V-H)and vertical-moment(V-M)loads.

文摘As promising optoelectronic materials, lead sulfide quantum dots(PbS QDs)have attracted great attention. However, their applications are substantially limited by the QD quality and/or complicated synthesis.Herein,a facile new synthesis is developed for highly monodisperse and halide passivated PbS QDs.The new synthesis is based on a heterogeneous system containing a PbCl_(2)-Pb(OA)_(2)solid-liquid precursor solution. The solid PbCl_(2)inhibits the diffusion of monomers and maintains a high oversaturation condition for the growth of PbS QDs,resulting in high monodispersities. In addition, the PbCl_(2)gives rise to halide passivation on the PbS QDs,showing excellent stability in air.The high monodispersity and good passivation endow these PbS QDs with outstanding optoelectronic properties, demonstrated by a 9.43%power conversion efficiency of PbS QD solar cells with a bandgap of~0.95 eV(1,300 nm).We believe that this heterogeneous strategy opens up a new avenue optimizing for the synthesis and applications of QDs.

文摘With the increasing energy consumption of computing systems and the growing advocacy for green computing, energy efficiency has become one of the critical challenges in high-performance heterogeneous computing systems. Experimental results show that the EASEF algorithm outperforms two existing algorithms in terms of makespan and energy consumption.

文摘This article addresses the leader-following output consensus problem of heterogeneous linear multi-agent systems with unknown agent parameters under directed graphs. The dynamics of followers are allowed to be non-minimum phase with unknown arbitrary individual relative degrees. This is contrary to many existing works on distributed adaptive control schemes where agent dynamics are required to be minimum phase and often of the same relative degree.A distributed adaptive pole placement control scheme is developed, which consists of a distributed observer and an adaptive pole placement control law.It is shown that under the proposed distributed adaptive control scheme, all signals in the closed-loop system are bounded and the outputs of all the followers track the output of the leader asymptotically. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by one practical example and one numerical example.

文摘We investigate the finite-time consensus problem for heterogeneous multi-agent systems composed of first-order and second-order agents.A novel continuous nonlinear distributed consensus protocol is constructed, and finite-time consensus criteria are obtained for the heterogeneous multi-agent systems.Compared with the existing results, the stationary and kinetic consensuses of the heterogeneous multi-agent systems can be achieved in a finite time respectively. Moreover, the leader can be a first-order or a second-order integrator agent. Finally, some simulation examples are employed to verify the efficiency of the theoretical results.
文摘Abstract In this paper, we introduce several on-going research projects to support parallel and distribut,ed computing on heterogeneous networks of workstations (NOW) in the High Performance Computing and Software Lahoratory at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Finally, to provide insight into system performance, we are developing two types of supporting tools : a graphical instrumentation monitor to aid users in investigating performance problems and in determining the most effective way of exploiting the NOW systems, and a trace-driven simulator to test and compare different system management and scheduling schemes.
文摘This paper considers the mean square output containment control problem for heterogeneous multi-agent systems(MASs)with randomly switching topologies and nonuniform distributed delays.By modeling the switching topologies as a continuous-time Markov process and taking the distributed delays into consideration,a novel distributed containment observer is proposed to estimate the convex hull spanned by the leaders'states.A novel distributed output feedback containment controller is then designed without using the prior knowledge of distributed delays.By constructing a novel switching Lyapunov functional, the output containment control problem is then solved in the sense of mean square under an easily-verifiable sufficient condition. Finally, two numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

文摘In this paper, a consensus algorithm of multi-agent second-order dynamical systems with nonsymmetric interconnection and heterogeneous delays is studied. With the hypothesis of directed weighted topology graph with a globally reachable node, decentralized consensus condition is obtained by applying generalized Nyquist criterion. For the systems with both communication and input delays, it is shown that the consensus condition is dependent on input delays but independent of communication delays.
