However, those time-averaged quantities may be insufficient for risk assessment, because there emerge many high-intensity pollutant areas in the instantaneous concentration field. In this study, we tried to estimate the frequency of appearance of the high concentration areas in a turbulent flow based on the Probability Density Function (PDF) of concentration. The high concentration area was recognized by two conditions based on the concentration and the concentration gradient values. We considered that the estimation equation for the frequency of appearance of the recognized areas consisted of two terms based on each condition. In order to represent the two terms with physical quantities of velocity and concentration fields, simultaneous PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) and PLIF (Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence) measurement and PLIF time-serial measurement were performed in a quasi-homogeneous turbulent flow. According to the experimental results, one of the terms, related to the condition of the concentration, was found to be represented by the concentration PDF, while the other term, by the streamwise mean velocity and the integral length scale of the turbulent flow. Based on the results, we developed an estimation equation including the concentration PDF and the flow features of mean velocity and integral scale of turbulence. In the area where the concentration PDF was a Gaussian one, the difference between the frequencies of appearance estimated by the equation and calculated from the experimental data was within 25%, which showed good accuracy of our proposed estimation equation. Therefore, our proposed equation is feasible for estimating the frequency of appearance of high concentration areas in a limited area in turbulent mass diffusion.展开更多

The diurnal and seasonal variations of PBLH were analyzed using radiosonde sounding(OBS-PBLH) and ERA data(ERA-PBLH). Based on comparison and error analyses, we discussed the main error sources in these data. The frequency distributions of PBLH variations under different regimes(the convective boundary layer, the neutral residual layer, and the stable boundary layer) can be well fitted by a Gamma distribution and the shape parameter k and scale parameter s values were obtained for different regions of China. The variation characteristics of PBLH were found in summer under these three regimes for different regions. The relationships between PBLH and PM_(2.5) concentration generally follow a power law under very low or no precipitation conditions in the region of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei in summer. The results usually deviated from this power distribution only under strong precipitation or high relative humidity conditions because of the effects of hygroscopic growth of aerosols or wet deposition. The OBS-PBLH provided a reasonable spatial distribution relative to ERA-PBLH.This indicates that OBS-PBLH has the potential for identifying the variation of PM_(2.5) concentration.展开更多

Pancreatic islet cells, which were isolated from Kunming mice, were cultured with different concentrations of glucose in DMEM, and divided into the following groups: G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, and G6 groups, corresponding to the glucose concentrations of 5.6, 7.8, 11.1, 16.7, 22.5, and 27.6 mmol/L, respectively. After culture for 120 h, insulin secretion was evaluated by radioimmunoassay, and the NF-rd3 expression was detected by immunocytochemistry. Bax activity and Cyt C release were measured by immunofluorescence, and apoptosis was examined by Hoechst33342 assay. The results showed that in GI, G2 and G3 groups, insulin secretion was enhanced with the increase of glucose concentration, and the NF-κB expression was also increased (P〈0.05), but Bax activity, Cyt C release and apoptosis rate showed no significant difference among them. However, in G4, G5, and G6 groups, apoptosis rate of islet cells, NF-rd3 expression, Bax activity, and Cyt C release were all significantly increased, and insulin secretion was impaired as compared with G1, G2, and G3 groups (P〈0.05). It was concluded that the exposure of islet cells to high glucose could induce islet cells apoptosis as well as impaired insulin secretion. The NF-κB signaling pathway and mitochondria pathway in islet cells might play some roles in the progressive loss of islet cells in diabetes. The inhibition of the NF-κB expression could be an effective strategy for protecting pancreatic islet cells.展开更多

In this work, 1,3,5-trioxane(TOX) is used as a functional additive to design a PEO-based composite solidstate electrolyte(denoted as TOX-CSE), which realizes the stable long-term cycle of an ASSLSB. The results show that TOX can in-situ decompose on the anode to form a composite solid electrolyte interphase(SEI) layer with rich-organic component. It yields a high average modulus of 5.0 GPa, greatly improving the mechanical stability of the SEI layer and thus inhibiting the growth of dendrites. Also, the robust SEI layer can act as a barrier to block the side reaction between polysulfides and lithium metal. As a result, a Li-Li symmetric cell assembled with a TOX-CSE exhibits prolonged cycling stability over 2000 h at 0.2 m A cm^(-2). The ASSLSB also shows a stable cycling performance of 500 cycles at 0.5 C.This work reveals the structure–activity relationship between the mechanical property of interface layer and the battery's cycling stability.展开更多

To study the behavior of SiO2 in the process of high concentration clinker leaching, experiments were carried out in home-made reactors. The results indicate that factors, such as temperature,time,Al2O3 concentration,as well as SiO2 concentration, have profound impact on the SiO2 and Al2O3 concen-tration of pregnant liquor during the high concentration leaching. However, sodium carbonate and free caustic soda concentrations have no remarkable effect on it,thus they are the secondary factors compared with Al2O3 concentration. The concentration of SiO2 in the pregnant liquor could be reduced to a lower level when the major effect parameters of this process are controlled properly.展开更多

The results showed that the volumes of biological focal region (BFR) were enlarged when the acoustic focal region (AFR) is close with interface layer. This meant that the magnetic nano-particles enhanced the therapeutic efficiency of HIFU. When the distance of the AFR from the interface layer was 10 mm, the size and shape of the BFR were similar with those of the control group, but a larger lesion at the interface, which was harmful for treatment, was observed. When the distance of the AFR to the interface layer increased to 30 mm, the size and shape of the BFR were also similar to those of the control group. When the thickness of the interface layer diminished, the utility of enhancement decreased. Continuous increase of the safe area for treatment and decrease of the utility of enhancement were observed along with the abatement of the thickness of the interface layer展开更多

The first HCL is at a depth of 15~20km, and the second at 45~60km. In the central region of the Plateau, such as north Qiangtang and Bayan Har, there is only one HCL in crust at the depth about 15~20km.The origin of HCL in upper crust of southern Tibet is mainly caused by free saline aqueous fluids. The seismic investigation by project INDEPTH in southern Tibet demonstrates that the bright spot reflection at about 15km depth is caused by 10% volume of free aqueous fluids (Makovsky and Klemperer, 1999). Seismic and heat flow research indicates the temperature in 15km depth of Tibet is from 400℃ to 650℃. The high concentration of Cl - in water of geothermal spring in southern Tibet means that the aqueous fluid in crust is saline water. The experiment on conductivity of NaCl solution shows that the conductivity is more than 4.5 S·m -1 under 400MPa and 300~650℃ condition (Quist and Marshall, 1968). This p\|T condition corresponds to the pressure and temperature range at 15~20km depth of Tibet.展开更多

The results found that Hb concentration in Himalayan highlanders was systemically lower than those reported for Andean natives and lowland immigrants. These comparative data demonstrated that a healthy native population may successfully reside at high altitude without a significant elevation in Hb, and the lower Hb levels of Himalayan highlanders than those of migrated lowlanders and Andean natives are an example of favourable adaptation over the generations. In addition, excessive polycythemia has frequently been used as a marker of chronic mountain sickness(CMS). Altitude populations who have a higher Hb concentration also have a higher incidence of CMS. The low Hb in Himalayans suggested as showing adaptation over many generations in Tibetan stock. Recent work in Tibet, suggested that Tibetans there may have adapted to high altitude as a result of evolutionary pressure selecting for genes which give an advantage at altitude. All of the population genomic and statistical analysis indicated that EPAS1 and EGLN1 are mostly likely responsible for high altitude adaptation and closely related to low Hb concentration in Tibetans. These data supported the hypothesis that Himalayan highlanders have evolved a genetically different erythropoietic response to chronic hypoxia by virtue of their much longer exposure to high altitude.展开更多

The compact single unit cell consists of concentric gold rings with a gold disk in the center and a metallic ground plane separated by a dielectric layer. We demonstrate that the multilayer structure with subwavelength electromagnetic confinement allows 104-105-fold enhancement of the electromagnetic energy density inside the double cavities and contains the most energy of the incoming light. Particularly, the enhancement factor of energy density G shows strong ability of localizing light and some regularity as the change of the thickness of the dielectric slab and dielectric constant. At the normal incidence of electromagnetic radiation, the obtained reflection spectra show that the resonance frequencies of the double microcavities operate in the range of 10-30μm. We also calculate the absorption efficiency C, which can reach 95%, 97% and 95% at corresponding frequency by optimizing the structure's geometry parameters. Moreover, the proposed structure will be insensitive to the polarization of the incident wave due to the symmetry of the double cylindrical microcavities. The proposed optical metamaterial is a promising candidate as absorbing elements in scientific and technical applications due to its extreme confinement, multiband absorption and polarization insensitivity.展开更多

This behavior dominates important aspects of the solutions. It will be called “nonlinear violence”. In the vicinity of a turning point, the solution of a nonlinear oscillatory systems that is affected by nonlinear violence exhibits the characteristics of boundary-layer behavior (independently of whether the equation of motion of the system can or cannot be cast in the traditional form of a boundary-layer problem.): close to a(E), x(t) varies very rapidly over a short time interval (which vanishes for E → ∞). In traditional boundary layer systems this would be called the “inner” solution. Outside this interval, x(t) soon evolves into a moderate profile (e.g. linear in time, or constant)—the “outer” solution. In (1 + 1)-dimensional nonlinear energy-conserving oscillators, if the solution is reflection-invariant, nonlinear violence determines the characteristics of the whole solution. For large families of nonlinear oscillatory systems, as E → ∞, the solutions for x(t) tend to common, indistinguishable profiles, such as periodic saw-tooth profiles or step-functions. If such profiles are observed experimentally in high-energy oscillations, it may be difficult to decipher the dynamical equations that govern the motion. The solution of motion in a central field with a non-zero angular momentum exhibits extremely fast rotation around a turning point that is affected by nonlinear violence. This provides an example for the possibility of interesting phenomena in (1 + 2)-dimensional oscillatory systems.展开更多

文摘Four-point bending tests were conducted up to failure on eleven reinforced concrete (RC) beams and strengthening beams to study the effectiveness of externally pouring ultra high toughness cementitious composites (UHTCC) on improving the flexural behavior of existing RC beams. The strengthening materials included UHTCC and high strength grade concrete. The parameters, such as thickness and length of strengthening layer and reinforcement in post-poured layer, were analyzed. The flexural behavior, failure mode and crack propagation of composite beams were investigated. The test results show that the strengthening layer improves the cracking and ultimate load by increasing the cross section area.Introducing UHTCC material into strengthening not only improves the bearing capacity of the original specimens, but also disperses larger cracks in upper concrete into multiple tightly-spaced fine cracks, thus prolonging the appearance of harm surface cracks and increasing the durability of existing structures.Compared with post-poured concrete,UHTCC is more suitable for working together with reinforcement. The load?deflection plots obtained from three-dimensional finite-element model (FEM) analyses are compared with those obtained from the experimental results, and show close correlation.

文摘The roles of NF-kappaB (NF-κB) expression, Bax activity and cytochrome C (Cyt C) release, apoptosis of islet cells induced by high concentration glucose were explored in vitro. The inhibition of the NF-κB expression could be an effective strategy for protecting pancreatic islet cells.

文摘Full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides are catching lots of interest as the next generation cathode for lithium-ion batteries due to their high discharge voltage, reduced voltage decay and enhanced rate performance, whereas the high lithium residues on its surface impairs the structure stability and long-term cycle performance.Herein,a facile multifunctional surface modification method is implemented to eliminate surface lithium residues of full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides by a wet chemistry reaction with tetrabutyl titanate and the post-annealing process. It realizes not only a stable Li_(2)TiO_(3)coating layer with 3D diffusion channels for fast Li^(+)ions transfer, but also dopes partial Ti^(4+)ions into the sub-surface region of full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides to further strengthen its crystal structure.Consequently, the modified full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides exhibit improved structure stability, elevated thermal stability with decomposition temperature from 289.57℃to 321.72℃,and enhanced cycle performance(205.1 mAh g^(-1)after 150 cycles)with slowed voltage drop(1.67 mV per cycle). This work proposes a facile and integrated modification method to enhance the comprehensive performance of full concentration gradient lithium-rich layered oxides, which can facilitate its practical application for developing higher energy density lithium-ion batteries.

文摘All-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries(ASSLSBs) have become one of the most potential candidates for the next-generation high-energy systems due to their intrinsic safety and high theoretical energy density. However, PEO-based ASSLSBs face the dilemma of insufficient Coulombic efficiency and long-term stability caused by the coupling problems of dendrite growth of anode and polysulfide shuttle of cathode. The ASSLSB also shows a stable cycling performance of 500 cycles at 0.5 C.This work reveals the structure–activity relationship between the mechanical property of interface layer and the battery's cycling stability.
文摘It is essential for alumina production by alkaline process to know the behavior of minerals containing Al and Si in basic solution, and the behavior of SiO2 in the process of clinker leaching is an important portion. The concentration of SiO2 in the pregnant liquor could be reduced to a lower level when the major effect parameters of this process are controlled properly.

文摘After interface layer was simulated by the magnetic nano-particles in the egg white phantom, high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) at the same dosage was introduced to radiate the phantom in different depths to blow the acoustic interface layer to mimic "point" exposure. Continuous increase of the safe area for treatment and decrease of the utility of enhancement were observed along with the abatement of the thickness of the interface layer
文摘To evaluate the H_(2)O_(2)‐tolerance of non‐Pt oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)catalysts as well as in‐vestigate the H_(2)O_(2)‐induced decay mechanism, the selection of an appropriate H_(2)O_(2) concentration is a prerequisite. However, the concentration criterion is still unclear because of the lack of in‐operando methods to determine the actual concentration of H_(2)O_(2) in fuel cell catalyst layers. In this work,an electrochemical probe method was successfully established to in‐operando monitor the H_(2)O_(2) in non‐Pt catalyst layers for the first time. The local concentration of H_(2)O_(2) was revealed to reach 17 mmol/L,which is one order of magnitude higher than that under aqueous electrodes test conditions.Powered by the new knowledge,a concentration criterion of at least 17 mmol/L is suggested. This work fills in the large gap between aqueous electrode tests and the real fuel cell working conditions, and highlights the importance of in‐operando monitoring methods.
文摘Geoelectrical investigations in Tibetan Plateau show that there are two high conductivity layers (HCLs) in the crust of southern Tibetan Plateau. This p\|T condition corresponds to the pressure and temperature range at 15~20km depth of Tibet.

文摘Particle coagulation by Brownian motion is an important but difficult research topic. When particle volume concentration is larger than 0.1%,the classic SMOLUCHOWSKI equation is not applicative anymore. The high concentration coagulation, with HEINE's correction, source terms for the Taylor-series expansion method of moments(TEMOM) are firstly driven in this paper.Ultra-fine particle(d0?100 mm) with initial volume fraction f?1% coagulation in a planar jet turbulence flow is simulated via the large eddy simulation(LES).The instantaneous and time-averaged particle distributions and the high concentration enhancement are given out.The particle number concentration distribution results show that the coagulation is more intense comparing to dilute case in previous research, especially near the nozzle exit. After jet flow is fully developed, the effect is much more obvious at the region between vortexes. The time-averaged γ(the high concentration enhance factor) distributes sharply and symmetrically about the jet centerline at the upstream, but becomes broad and flat at downstream where the cross-stream averaged γ fluctuates drastically. As a new attempt, this paper shows Brownian coagulation with high concentration also can be calculated via TEMOM appropriately, and the coagulation at the region between vortexes is about 1.38 times intensive of the dilute result calculated by the classic Smoluchowski theory.

文摘Mean hemoglobin(Hb) concentration of about 3 500 subjects derived from 17 studies of Himalayan highlanders(Tibetans, Sherpas, and Ladakhis) was compared with lowlanders(Chinese Han, Indian Tamils) lived in the Himalayas, and European climbers during Everest expeditions as well as Andean natives. These data supported the hypothesis that Himalayan highlanders have evolved a genetically different erythropoietic response to chronic hypoxia by virtue of their much longer exposure to high altitude.

文摘A novel type of n/i/i/p heterojunction solar cell with a-Si:H(15 nm)/a-Si:H(10 nm)/epitaxial c-Si(47 p.m)/epitaxial c-Si(3 um) structure is fabricated by using the layer transfer technique, and the emitter layer is deposited by hot wire chemical vapour deposition. The effect of the doping concentration of the emitter layer Sd (Sd=PH3/(PH3 +SiH4+H2)) on the performance of the solar cell is studied by means of current density-voltage and external quantum efficiency. The results show that the conversion efficiency of the solar cell first increases to a maximum value and then decreases with Sd increasing from 0.1% to 0.4%. The best performance of the solar cell is obtained at Sd = 0.2% with an open circuit voltage of 534 mV, a short circuit current density of 23.35 mA/cm2, a fill factor of 63.3%, and a conversion efficiency of 7.9%.

文摘We numerically study the enhancement factor of energy density and absorption efficiency inside the double cylindrical microcavities based on a triple-band metamaterial absorber. The proposed optical metamaterial is a promising candidate as absorbing elements in scientific and technical applications due to its extreme confinement, multiband absorption and polarization insensitivity.
文摘This paper focuses on the characteristics of solutions of nonlinear oscillatory systems in the limit of very high oscillation energy, E;specifically, systems, in which the nonlinear driving force grows with energy much faster for x(t) close to the turning point, a(E), than at any position, x(t), that is not too close to a(E). This provides an example for the possibility of interesting phenomena in (1 + 2)-dimensional oscillatory systems.

文摘The objectives of this study are carried out a series of controlled large wave flume experiments using fine-grained sediment from the Huanghe River Delta, exploring the complete sequence of sediment behavior in the bottom boundary layer(BBL)during wave-induced liquefaction. The results show that:(1)The BBL in silty seabed is exposed to a progressive wave, goes through a number of different stages including compaction before liquefaction, sediment liquefaction, and compaction after liquefaction, which determines the range and thickness of BBL.(2)With the introduction of waves, first, the sediment surface has settled by an amount S(S=1–2 cm)in the course of wave loadings with an insufficient accumulation of pore water pressure. And a thin high concentration layer formed the near-bed bottom.(3)Once the liquefaction sets in,the liquefied sediment with an‘orbital motion’and the sub-liquefied sediment form a two-layer-sediment region. The range of BBL extends downwards and stopped at a certain depth, subsequently, develops upwards with the compaction process.Meanwhile, resuspended sediments diffuse to the upper water column.(4)During the dynamics process of the BBL beneath progressive waves, the re-suspended sediment increment ranked as sediment liquefaction>erosion before liquefaction>compaction after liquefaction.
