Firstly, on the basis of old road vector data, the original high resolution remote sensing image was cut into segments. Then, gray analysis and edge extraction of those segments were done so that changes of roads could be detected. Finally, according to the vector data and gray information of roads which were not changed, road templates were extracted and saved automatically. This method was performed on the World View high resolution image of certain parts in the country. The detection result shows that detection correctness is 79.56% and completeness can reach 97.72%. Moreover, the extracted road templates are essentials for the template matching method of road extraction.展开更多

However, these approaches do not respond completely to the specialists who process yet more commonly the data extracted from the images in their studies to predict the future. In this paper, we propose an innovative methodology based on hidden Markov models (HMM). Our approach exploits temporal series of satellite images in order to predict spatio-temporal phenomena. It uses HMM for representing and making prediction concerning any objects in a satellite image. The first step builds a set of feature vectors gathering the available information. The next step uses a Baum-Welch learning algorithm on these vectors for detecting state changes. Finally, the system interprets these changes to make predictions. The performance of our approach is evaluated by tests of space-time interpretation of events conducted over two study sites, using different time series of SPOT images and application to the change in vegetation with LANDSAT images.展开更多

The source of our data was GeoEye 1 satellite. To classify this data, two pro-grammes were used: an Object-Based Classification and a Pixel-Based Classification. The second classification programme was further subdi-vided into two groups. The first group included classes (buildings, streets, vacant land, vegetations) which were treated simultaneously and on a single image basis. The second, however, was where each class was identified individually, and the results of each class produced a single image and were later enhanced. The classification results were then as-sessed and compared before and after enhancement using visual then automatic assessment. The results of the evaluation showed that the pix-el-based individual classification of each class was rated the highest after enhancement, increasing the Overall Classification Accuracy by 2%, from 89% to 91.00%. The results of this classification type were adopted for mapping Jeddah’s buildings, roads, and vegetations.展开更多

However, extracting information of ecological engineering target through high-resolution satellite image is arduous due to the unique topography and complicated spatial pattern on the Loess Plateau of China. As a result, enhancing classification accuracy is a huge challenge to high-resolution image processing techniques. Image processing techniques have a definitive effect on image properties and the selection of different parameters may change the final classification accuracy during post-classification processing. The common method of eliminating noise and smoothing image is majority filtering. However, the filter function may modify the original classified image and the final accuracy. The aim of this study is to develop an efficient and accurate post-processing technique for acquiring information of soil and water conservation engineering, on the Loess Plateau of China, using SPOT image with 2.5 rn resolution. We argue that it is vital to optimize satellite image filtering parameters for special areas and purposes, which focus on monitoring ecological construction projects. We want to know how image filtering influences final classified results and which filtering kernel is optimum. The study design used a series of window sizes to filter the original classified image, and then assess the accuracy of each output map and image quality. We measured the relationship between filtering window size and classification accuracy, and optimized the post-processing techniques of SPOT5satellite images. We conclude that (1) smoothing with the majority filter is sensitive to the information accuracy of soil and water conservation engineering, and (2) for SPOT5 2.5 m image, the 5×5 pixel majority filter is most suitable kernel for extracting information of ecological construction sites in the Loess Plateau of China.展开更多
