Their uranium contents are mostly lower than 3μg/g, and the δ+{234}U(T) values are within the range of 150±5. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the corals are all composed of aragonite. This demonstrates that the corals determined have maintained a close system for 7000 years and their skeletons bear much information about the primitive tropical marine environment. The highly precise age sequence of the corals determined has revealed that there occurred three phases of high sea level in the South China Sea waters, which are dated at 6799-6307 a B.P., 4472-4285 a B.P. and 1279-1012 a B.P., respectively. The three phases lasted 492 a, 187 a and 267 a, respectively. These three phases of high sea level are corresponding to the warm environments that had appeared in China during the Megathermal Period and the Medieval Warm Period in the past ten thousand years.展开更多

Based on the data from a special project titled China's Offshore Marine Integrated Investigation and Evaluation as well as Regional Ocean Modeling Systems(ROMS)diagnostic numerical model,we studied the influence o...Based on the data from a special project titled China's Offshore Marine Integrated Investigation and Evaluation as well as Regional Ocean Modeling Systems(ROMS)diagnostic numerical model,we studied the influence of high wind processes on the circulation and water exchange between the Bohai and Yellow Seas(BYS)in winter.The results show that the vertical structure of the Yellow Sea Warm Current(YSWC)is relatively uniform under condition of high winds,showing obvious barotropic features.However,this flow is not a stable mean flow,showing strong paroxysmal and reciprocating characteristics.A comparison of the changes in sea level suggests that the intensity of the northwards upwind flow is consistent with the abnormal fluctuations in the sea level.It indicates that the upwind flow is closely related to the water exchange between the BYS.The impact of high wind processes on the water exchange between the BYS is enormous.It can make the flux through the Bohai Strait,as well as that through the mouth of each constituent bay(i.e.,Liaodong Bay,Bohai Bay,and Laizhou Bay)far greater than usual,resulting in a significant increase in the water exchange rate.The exchange capacity,which is about 8%of the total volume of the Bohai Sea,can be completed in a few days.Therefore,the water exchange of the Bohai Sea may be completed by only a few occasional high wind processes in winter.展开更多

Their hierarchical structures, ratio ...Four hierarchical cyclothems, superbundlesets, bundlesets, bundles and laminae, have been identified from the Devonian Frasnian-Famennian carbonate strata in Guangxi, South China. Their hierarchical structures, ratio relationships and sequence in conodont zones are continuous and stable and can be traced across different facies zones and sedimentary basins. Our data show that hierarchically organized superbundlesets, bundlesets, bundles and laminae correspond to the long eccentricity, eccentricity, obliquity or precession and sub-Milankovitch cycles respectively. Their periods were 400,000, 100,000, 33,333, 16,667 and 8,000–17,000 a, respectively. The ratios of long eccentricity to eccentricity, eccentricity to obliquity, and eccentricity to precession in the Devonian are 1:4, 1:3 and 1:6 respectively. Using these hierarchical Milankovitch cyclothems, chronostratigraphical division and correlation can be realized at a resolution of 100 ka or 10 ka at the Frasnian-Famennian transition. The time intervals of the Upper rhenana Zone, linguiformis Zone, and the Lower, Middle and Upper triangularis Zone are 0.6, 0.8, 0.3, 0.3 and 0.3 Ma, respectively. To investig...During the period of reconstruction after Yushu Earthquake,a large number of sea-level or low land workers ascended there and worked at altitudes between 3 750 m and 4 878 m which is a hypoxic environment. To investigate the sleep quality at that altitude,we performed two full polysomnographies (PSGs) in 10 volunteers,who were healthy male workers,aged 31±6.6,born and living at sea level,without experience of pre-altitude exposure. The assessment of subjective sleep quality was performed twice in each volunteer. The first investigations were carried out at sea level in Jinan city (p B =760 torr,1 torr=133.322 4 Pa). The second studies were performed at an altitude of 3 750 m (p B =416 torr) in Yushu Jiegu in the same 10 workers after they lived and worked at that altitude for 5 months. At sea level,workers presented a normal sleep structure and a higher oxygenation during sleep. However,as compared to sea-level sleep,at 3 750 m,workers had a shorter total sleep time (TST) (p<0.001),a longer stage 1 non-rapid eye movement (nREM) sleep (p<0.05) and a shorter 3+4 nREM and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (p<0.05) with a severe sleep hypoxemia (p<0.01). Our data suggested that sea-level workers revealed a disturbed sleep and a bad sleep quality with a significant sleep hypoxemia at altitude of 3 750 m. Strengthening the prevention and treatment are thereby sorely necessary.展开更多

Besides the regions east to the sandbar of Maqiao Site in Shanghai, foraminifera are not found in Neolithic cultural layers since 7000 aBP, indicating a widespread transgression between 10000 and 7000 aBP.Evidence of radiocarbon-dated cultural relics, foraminifera and pollen records from the Hemudu Site suggests that the Hemudu culture emerged and developed during themid-Holocene Climatic Optimum. Therefore, the hypothesisof a mid-Holocene sea-level highstand along the YangtzeDelta and Ningshao Plain from 7000 to 5000 aBP is an open debate. New evidence from archaeological excavations andbio-stratigraphy suggests that, prior to 7000 aBP, a high sea level occurred along the Ningshao Plain. The study on the interrelation between sea-level changes and biodiversity with its evolu-tion has great significance for understanding the impact of global changes on organic evolution and exploring the inherent laws ...The study on the interrelation between sea-level changes and biodiversity with its evolu-tion has great significance for understanding the impact of global changes on organic evolution and exploring the inherent laws of life-environment coevolution in geological history. In this paper, the stratigraphic distribution of fusulinacean fauna in the Carboniferous-Permian boundary section at Xikou, Zhen’an County, Shaanxi Province, is analyzed quantitatively, and the relationship between the species diversity of fusulinaceans and relative sea-level changes is discussed. As a whole, the spe-cies numbers of fusulinacean fauna experience a rapid increase and an obvious decline in Xikou, Zhen’an County, from the Late Carboniferous to the Early Permian. There is a significant increase in species diversity around the Carboniferous-Permian boundary, which is one of the biggest bio-events of the fusulinacean fauna, and represents the radiation of Pseudoschwagerininae subfamily in the studied area. Integrated fusulinacean species diversity into sequence stratigraphic framework, de-tailed study suggests that the species diversity of the fusulinaceans is closely related to its relative stratigraphic location, and is essentially controlled by the sea-level changes, especially by the high-frequency sea-level changes. Generally, the species diversity of fusulinaceans is low, and the number of first and last appearance datum is small in the lower unit of high-frequency depositional cycle formed during the quick rise of the sea level; whereas the species diversity of fusulinaceans is high, and the number of first and last appearance datum is large in the upper unit of high-frequency cycle formed during the slow fall of the sea level. Within the third-order depositional sequence, the species diversity of the fusulinaceans at the first flooding surfaces and the maximum flooding surfaces is low, and it increases upward. The fusulinacean species diversity is low within the transgressive systems track, and it is high within the highstand systems track.
