In this paper, the commercial nickel coatings adhesion was investigated. The microstructure of the RE-Fe-B without coating was analyzed by scanning electronic microscopy and electrochemical techniques. The interface magnet/coating was studied by scanning electron microscopy and the nickel-plated Nd-Fe-B commercial magnets were tested in a salt spray chamber. The ferromagnetic and RE-rich phases were observed. After the anodic polarization curve, a strong intergranular corrosion was observed and the RE-rich phase was preferentially attacked. The interface magnet/Ni coating presented inter-granular corrosion that can affect the nickel coating adherence. This attack had probably occurred during the electrodeposition process. Not all the samples suffered localized corrosion during the salt spray tests and the Ni triple-layer coating presented a few corrosion points. RE-Fe-B alloy magnets need to be protected with appropriate coatings to each environment to which they will be exposed and the protective coating must not be damaged.展开更多

The experimental results show that the high temperature tensile strength of near eutectic Sn60 Pb40 solder alloy is increased by about 70% after adding trace rare earth elements. Analysis shows that the high affinity between rare earth element and Sn leads to the variation of contact angle at the three phase junction of S/L interface during eutectic growth and further changes the Pb concentration at the S/L interface needed for coupled eutectic growth. Thus the eutectic microstructure can directly grow upon the primary Pb rich phase and the formation of coarse Sn rich halo is suppressed. Therefore homogeneous metallurgical microstructure can be obtained.展开更多

SmCo alloys are candidates for high temperature applications, since they have large magnetocrystalline anisotropy field (6-30 T), high Curie temperature (720-920℃), and large energy product (〉200 kJ.m-3) at room temperature. However, the highest service temperature of commercial 2:17 type SmCo magnets is only 300℃, and many efforts have been devoted to develop novel high temperature permanent magnets. The anisotropy is a combined effect of spin-orbit coupling and electrostatic crystal-field interactions. The main contribution comes from the rare-earth 4f electrons, which are well-screened from the crystalline environment but exhibit a strong spin-orbit coupling. In this limit, the magnetocrystalline anisotropy has a very transparent physical interpretation, the anisotropy energy essentially being equal to the energy of Hund's-rules 4f ion in the crystal field. The corresponding expression for the lowest-order uniaxial anisotropy constant K1 is used to discuss rare-earth substitutions, which have recently attracted renewed interest due to shifts in the rare-earth production and demand. Specific phenomena reviewed in this article are the enhancement of the anisotropy of Sm2Fe17 due to interstitial nitrogen, the use of Sm-Co magnets for high-temperature applications, and the comparison of rare-earth single-ion anisotropy with other single-ion and two-ion mechanisms.展开更多

Being spun at sub-ove.quenching speed the as-spun ribbons consist of amorphous phases mixed with fine crystallites. After crystallization under optimum annealing conditions and bonded with 3.25% (mass fraction) epoxy, the magnets obtained the optimum magnetic properties. The rare earths content directly determines the magnetic properties. With the reduction of rare earths content, B-r increases but H-ci and (BH)(max) decrease. x = 10 is the critical value for the magnetic proper-ties change. Below this value, Br increases slowly meanwhile H-ci and (BH)(max) decrease strongly because alloy contains extra fractions of soft magnetic phase which are not coupled with the hard magnetic phase.. This experimental result is consistent with the calculated results using the model of volume fraction of soft magnetic phase coupled completely suggested.展开更多

In order to analyze permanent magnet (PM) demagnetization in high-temperature in PMR, PMR mathematical model is established firstly, and the boundary conditions of finite element analysis are determined. Then the eddy current field distribution in the rotor is determined by solving eddy current demagnetization field, and PM dynamic permeance coefficient is obtained. Combined with PM demagnetization curve analysis, PMR permanent magnet demagnetization properties are analyzed. The analysis result is validated by the bench test. It shows that part of PM is demagnetized when PRM continues working for about 15 minutes, and the braking performance is declined. Finally, three PMR optimization design methods are proposed.展开更多

文摘As a auxiliary brake, Permanent Magnet Retarder (PMR) generates lots of energy and has greater temperature-rise when PMR works, so that it has a direct impact on PMR work performance and even causes demagnetization seriously. Finally, three PMR optimization design methods are proposed.
文摘The research and development of RE magnets in China were briefly reviewed. The research achievements of RE magnets reach international level. The intermetallic nitrides with ThMn12-type structure of RFe series which possess Chinese proprietary were prepared. The output of RE magnets has ranked second in the world. The production of RE magnets will be steadily expanding with the expiration of NdFeB patent in 2003. Some related data were also presented.
