This paper proposes a novel AC filter system for a line commutated converter high voltage DC(LCC-HVDC)transmission system.Through the coordination of the hybrid active power filters(APF)and the existing reactive compe...This paper proposes a novel AC filter system for a line commutated converter high voltage DC(LCC-HVDC)transmission system.Through the coordination of the hybrid active power filters(APF)and the existing reactive compensation devices,the proposed filter system can not only enhance the suppression performance for LCC-HVDC harmonics,but also optimize the AC yard layout with reduced reactive power subbanks,reducing the cost of HVDC projects.The novel filter system adopts a serial passive resonance topology obtained by careful comparison of different APFs.A proper control scheme is then designed integrating the control strategy of the APF and impedance characteristics of the HVDC system,which is able to realize harmonic suppression and dynamic reactive power support simultaneously.In addition,a novel self-adaption digital low-pass filter algorithm is presented,which is used in the APF harmonic detecting step,enhancing both high precision and fast dynamic response.On the basis of a real HVDC project,the advantages of proposed filter system in harmonic suppression,reactive power regulation,and sub-banks reduction are simulated and demonstrated.展开更多
The current interruption test based on an LC resonance circuit for hybrid DC circuit breakers(HVDC CBs)is widely employed to characterize the current interruption capability of CBs.In order to ensure a high-fidelity r...The current interruption test based on an LC resonance circuit for hybrid DC circuit breakers(HVDC CBs)is widely employed to characterize the current interruption capability of CBs.In order to ensure a high-fidelity replica of the fault current in a high voltage application,this paper first proposes an equivalent model of the test circuit,where not only parasitic resistances but also the threshold voltages and on-state resistances of various semiconductor devices are considered.Moreover,the analytical formula of the test current is derived by including the working principle of the HVDC CB.Secondly,the parameter extraction method,which combines finite element analysis and measurements by an impedance analyzer,is given in this paper.The extracted result implies that,in current interruption transients,equivalent resistances of 500 kV CB are as large as 535 mS,which have a significant influence on current waveforms.Thirdly,the 34 kV/25 kA current interruption test for the 500 kV CB is conducted.The measured results are proved to be consistent with the analytical results obtained from the proposed model,and the relative error is less than 2%.展开更多

The main focus of this research is to design a novel AC filter usingthe equivalent impedance method of two single-tuned and double-dampedtuned AC filters. This paper studies the operation,analysis and experiments of multilevel high frequency link transformers(MHFLT)based on modular multilevel converters(MMC)for high voltage DC applications.The multilevel dual active pha...This paper studies the operation,analysis and experiments of multilevel high frequency link transformers(MHFLT)based on modular multilevel converters(MMC)for high voltage DC applications.The multilevel dual active phase shift is proposed to operate the MHFLT using a high switching frequency,which brings about many advantages and makes the operation quite different from that of the traditional DC transformer(DCT)based on a dual active bridge and the fundamental frequency MMC widely used in flexible HVDC transmission.Specifically,MHFLT is suitable for high voltage levels,which is due to its good switching characterization,ability to cut itself off from an external fault,and it can also achieve redundancy operations when a sub-module fault occurs.In this paper,the operation,modulation method,multilevel high frequency link voltage,current,and power characterization,high frequency commutation,and switching characterization are analyzed comprehensively;the pulse rotation and distributed delay control,and fault handling strategies of MHFLT are then proposed.Finally,a prototype is built,and the experimental results verify the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed solution.展开更多
Multi-terminal high voltage DC(MT-HVDC)grid has broad application prospects in connecting different energy sources,asynchronous interconnection of power grids,remote load power supply,and other fields.At present,the k...Multi-terminal high voltage DC(MT-HVDC)grid has broad application prospects in connecting different energy sources,asynchronous interconnection of power grids,remote load power supply,and other fields.At present,the key technologies that affect the development of MT-HVDC transmission system include swift fault identification and location in the DC line and its rapid isolation.Traditional fault monitoring relies on line communication,which cannot guarantee the rapidity and reliability of protection;moreover,it may even cause device damage.A fault identification scheme based on a single-terminal transient is presented in this paper.This scheme calculates the line inductance by using the rise rate of fault current at the initial stage of the fault,and determines the occurrence of the fault by comparing the observed line inductance with the set value,which lays a foundation for calculating the location of the fault point using distance protection.A simulation model on the PSCAD/EMTDC platform is built;the simulation example verifies that the proposed scheme can identify faults under dissimilar conditions while maintaining a low error level on the premise of no communication lines so as to meet the protection requirements of the MT-HVDC grid.展开更多

The ...In this paper, the effects of the existence of plasma actuator electrodes and also various configurations of the actuator for controlling the flow field around a circular cylinder are experimentally investigated. The cylinder is made of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) and considered as a dielectric barrier. Two electrodes are fiush-mounted on the surface of the cylinder and are connected to a DC high voltage power supply lbr generation of electrical discharge. Pressure distribution results show that the existence of the electrodes and also the plasma are able to change the pressure distribution around the cylinder and consequently the lili and drag coefficients. It is found that the effect of the existence of the electrodes is comparable with the effect of plasma actuator in con- trolling the flow field around the cylinder and this effect is not reported by other researchers. Eventually it is concluded that the existence of the electrodes or any extra obiects on the cylinder and also the existence of the plasma are capable of changing the flow field structure around the cylinder so that the behavior of the lift and drag coefficients of the cylinder will be changed significantly.展开更多
