The results indicated that there was no difference in the percentage of nucleated fibroblasts in the G0/G1 stage between serum concentrations of 0.3% and 0.4% (83.89% and 82.69%, respectively, P > 0.05) as well as between serum concentrations of 0.2% and 0.5% (76.95% and 75.46%, respectively, P > 0.05). The percentage of nucleated fibroblasts in the G0/G1 stage was highest at the concentration of 0.3% and lowest in the control group (83.89% vs. 62.67%, P 0.05). The beneficial effect of high confluence was confirmed by the large percentage of nucleated fibroblasts at the G0/G1 stage. The 60% confluency was significantly lower than the 80% and 100% confluency (73.44%, 86.63%, and 87.17%, respectively, P < 0.05). The results indicate that the goat fibroblast cycle synchronization is the most effective at the serum concentration of 0.3%, 72 hours of synchronization and 100% confluency.展开更多

It is also acquired from supplemental food. Cholesterol is a source of energy and is a precursor of steroid hormones, bile acids and also required for normal cell function. The level of serum cholesterol is generally lower in goat breeds as compared to other cattles. The present study was conducted to estimate level of serum cholestrol in goats (both male and female) commonly reraed in three areas of Gilgit-Baltistan province of Pakistan viz; Ghizer, Baltistan and Hunza-NagarRandom samples of blood were taken from 440 goats (181 male and 259 female) and serum was obtained by centrifugation. Quantity of cholesterol in mg deciliter"l of serum was determined by analyzing the serum using Micro-lab 300. Distrci wise comparison showed that cholestrol level in the samples from the three districts was highly significant. While the differences between the gender (male and female goats) from the same district were non-significant at P 〈 0.05. Ghizer breed is suggested to be better for human consumption because it had the lowest chlestrol level. The paper aslo discuss the effect of pastures feeding on the level of cholesterol in the serum of goats. Present findings will help formulate better strategies for the imporvement of goat breeds in the area.展开更多

Trypanosomosis remains a major challenge to livestock production in much of tropical Sub-Saharan Africa, while diagnosis and treatment still depend on inefficient parasitological techniques. Endemic infections depend ...Trypanosomosis remains a major challenge to livestock production in much of tropical Sub-Saharan Africa, while diagnosis and treatment still depend on inefficient parasitological techniques. Endemic infections depend on animal reservoirs with subclinical parasitemia. We report molecular diagnosis of subclinical Trypanosoma vivax (T. vivax) infection using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the first time in Nigerian goats and associate parasite presence with gross physiological traits and serum metabolites in extensively managed Nigerian goats. PCR was used to amplify a 400 bp DNA fragment of the parasite genome in 205 goats across three geographical zones of the country. Results showed a high subclinical infection rate (SCIR) of 71.7% in the total goats examined. Overall SCIRs of 71%, 75.9% and 55.6% were recorded in West African Dwarf, Red Sokoto and Sahel goats respectively, while geographical SCIRs were 71.2% (Southwest), 75% (Northwest) and 70% (Northeast). T. vivax presence had significant (P 0.05) effect on respiratory rate and is associated with higher creatinine levels in sera. Logistic regression analyses with Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit showed that respiratory rate is the most important predictive trait for the presence of T. vivax infection (P 0.05). Goats appear to be a viable reservoir for T. vivax infection of other livestock. Molecular diagnosis of subclinical trypanosomosis using PCR could be useful for large scale epidemiological studies, early diagnosis of subclinical infection and treatment of the disease in extensively managed tropical goats.展开更多
[Objective] The research aimed to enhance culture efficiencies of oocyte and embryo of goat in vitro and to explore serum-free culture system in vitro.[Method] At present,the conventional solutions of oocyte maturatio...[Objective] The research aimed to enhance culture efficiencies of oocyte and embryo of goat in vitro and to explore serum-free culture system in vitro.[Method] At present,the conventional solutions of oocyte maturation and embryo development in vitro were always added into 1% ITS(Insulin-transferrin-selenium) or using 1% ITS to replace FBS in 2 kinds culture solutions for conducting in vitro cultures of goat oocyte and parthenogenetic embryo.The influences of ITS on their developments were detected.[Result] ITS in maturation liquid of oocytes could not increase oocytes maturation rate but significantly increased blastocyst rate (58.06% vs. 48.19%)of parthenogenetic embryo.If FBS in maturation liquid of oocytes was replaced by ITS, the maturation rate, cleavage rate and blastocyst rate were basically unchanged.Adding ITS into embryo medium could increase blastocyst rate (68.30% vs. 56.82%)of parthenogenetic embryo of goat.If FBS in embryo medium was replaced by ITS,the cleavage rate didn’t change basically,while the blastocyst rate in ITS was obviously lower than that in FBS group(42.33% vs.56.82%).[Conclusion] ITS could promote maturation of oocyte in vitro and early embryonic development, in addition,ITS could replace serum in maturation medium of oocyte as serum-free culture system for conducting relevant researches.展开更多
