A model of the power transfer between the core modes and the cladding modes during thermally-induced refractive index variations is established based on the mode coupling theory. The results of numerical simulations based on actual laser parameters are presented. Experimental measurements were also carried out, the results showed good agreement with the corresponding simulation results.展开更多

This model takes into account the mechanisms of cross relaxation and energy transfer to describe the laser operation. A subroutine program for calculating the absorption rate of cladding pumped scheme is included in the model. The losses of signal and pump light along the fiber have been taken into account. The test of cladding pumped scheme program shows good agreement with the experimental result. The experimental results of core pumping Tm Ho doped fiber laser in fluoride host are compared with the present model, and shows a good agreement with calculations. This model also provides data of the optimum parameters for the configuration of the efficient cladding pumped Tm Ho fluoride laser systems.展开更多

An effective way to improve the OSNR of RFLs is pump scheme optimization, for example, employing a temporally stable source as the pump. In this paper, the output performance of an incoherently pumped RFL dependence on the pump bandwidth has been investigated both in experiment and theory. It is found that a high-OSNR RFL can be achieved with broadband amplified spontaneous emission(ASE) source pumping, and a relatively broad pump bandwidth can also help suppress the spectral broadening while maintaining an ultra-high spectral purity.By optimizing the pump bandwidth to ~10 nm, maximum OSNR of ~39 dB(corresponding to a spectral purity of ~99.96%) with more than 99 W output power can be obtained. Moreover, for the pump bandwidth of 0.6–40 nm, the spectral purity can reach as high as >99% with the pump power ranging from ~85 to ~117 W.In addition, with the aid of theoretical simulation based on a modified power balance model, we find that the increment of pump bandwidth can decrease the effective Raman gain coefficient, further influencing the gain characteristics, nonlinear effects, and eventually the output performance. This work provides new insight into the influence of the pump characteristics on the output performance of incoherently pumped RFLs.展开更多

The novel configuration is shown to allow repetition rates of 200 Hz at 1 ms pulse duration, at an output power of 130 W per single emitter. The emission of two stacked arrays was then optically combined to realize pump modules that deliver6 kW peak power(pulse energy 6 J) from a 1.9 mm core diameter fiber, with wall plug efficiency of 50%. This represents a significant improvement in terms of duty cycle and electro-optical efficiency over conventional sources. The pump module has been successfully tested at the Max Born Institute, Berlin during trials for pumping of disk lasers.展开更多

By using the special polarization operation technique together with introducing a narrow-linewidth fiber grating into the laser cavity, a cladding-pumped linear polarization and single-transverse-mode (M2 〈 1.1) Yb-doped fiber laser with narrow linewidth whose full-width at half-maximm (FWHM) is less than 0.2 nm, is obtained in a simple configuration. The output power is up to 10 W which is continuous- wave output at 1085 nm, and the slope efficiency is 63% with respect to the coupled pump power and 75% with respect to the absorbed pump power, respectively. The measured 21-dB polarization extinction ratio does not degrade with the output power. The simplicity of such an approach is highly beneficial for a number of applications, including the use of a fiber laser for the nonlinear wavelength conversion (especially for the intracavity frequency doubling) and for the coherent and spectral beam combination.展开更多
