We present theoretical and experimental investigations into the flexural vibration transfer properties of a high-pressure periodic pipe with the force on the inner pipe wall by oii pressure taken into consideration. The results show that the vibration attenuation of periodic pipe decreases along with the elevation of working pressure for the hydraulic system, and the band gaps in low frequency ranges move towards high frequency ranges. The periodic pipe has good vibration attenuation performance in the frequency range below 1000 Hz and the vibration of the hydraulic system is effectively suppressed. A11 the results are validated by experiment. The experimental results show a good agreement with the numerical calculations, thus the flexural vibration transfer properties of the high- pressure periodic pipe can be precisely calculated by taking the fluid structure interaction between the pipe and oil into consideration. This study provides an effective way for the vibration control of the hydraulic system.展开更多

First, a theoretical model of the pipe is developed through the force balance and stress-strain relationship. Second, the response surfaces, stability, and critical lines of the typical hanging system (H-S) and standing system (S-S) are discussed based on the modal analysis. Last, the bifurcation diagrams of the pipe are presented for different supported angles. It is shown that pipes will undergo a series of bifurcation processes and show rich dynamic phenomena such as buckling, Hopf bifurcation, period-doubling bifurcation, chaotic motion, and divergence motion.展开更多

For the analytical model, the effect of the nonlinear elastic foundation is modeled by a nonlinear restraining force. By using an iterative algorithm, a set of ordinary differential dynamical equations derived from the equation of motion of the system are solved numerically and then the bifurcations are analyzed. The numerical results, in which the existence of chaos is demonstrated, are presented in the form of phase portraits of the oscillations. The intermittency transition to chaos has been found to arise.展开更多

The flow velocity is assumed to harmonically vary along the pipe rather than with time. The dimensionless equation is discretized with the differential quadrature method (DQM). Subsequently, the effects of the mean flow velocity and two key parameters of the corrugated pipe, i.e., the amplitude of the corrugations and the total number of the corrugations, are studied. The results show that the corrugated pipe will lose stability by flutter even if it has been supported at both ends. When the total number of the corrugations is sufficient, this flutter instability occurs at a micro flow velocity. These phenomena are verified via the Runge-Kutta method. The critical flow velocity of divergence is analyzed in detail. Compared with uniform pipes, the critical velocity will be reduced due to the corrugations, thus accelerating the divergence instability. Specifically, the critical flow velocity decreases if the amplitude of the corrugations increases. However, the critical flow velocity cannot be monotonously reduced with the increase in the total number of the corrugations. An extreme point appears, which can be used to realize the parameter optimization of corrugated pipes in practical applications.展开更多

The order magnitudes of relevant physical parameters are analyzed qualitatively to establish a foundation on the further study of the model. The method of multiple scales is used to obtain eigenfunctions of the linear free-vibration modes of the pipe. The boundary conditions yield the characteristic equations from which eigenvalues can be derived. It is found that flow velocity in the pipe may induced the 3:1, 2:1 and 1:1 internal resonances between the first and second modes such that the mechanism of flow-induced internal resonances in the pipe under consideration is explained theoretically. The 3:1 internal resonance first occurs in the system and is, thus, the most important since it corresponds to the minimum critical velocity.展开更多

The effects of Poisson, Junction and Friction couplings in the wave-flowing-vibration system on the pipe dynamic stability were included in the analytical model constituted by four nonlinear differential equations. An analyzing example of cantilevered pipe was done to illustrate the dynamic stability, characteristics on the pipe in the full coupling mechanisms, and the phase curves related to the first four modal motions were drawn. The results show that the dynamic stable characteristics of the pipe are very complicated in the complete coupling mechanisms, and the kinds of the singularity points corresponding to the various modal motions are different.展开更多
