This work aims at discussing the concept of critical and plurilingual English teaching within the context of the Interdisciplinary Higher Education Program recently implemented at the University of Campinas, Brazil. This program aims at widening possibilities for public students to have access to Higher Education. The teaching of English as a foreign language is part of the curriculum and one of the challenges faced was to design a language course that meant to be meaningful to students and able to develop the necessary knowledge and literacies for active citizenship as well. A discursive approach to language was adopted and, this way, Bakhtinian theories, re-contextualized to the educational field, support the claim for the development of critical literacy in the process. Along with the concept of multiliteracies, linked to the notion of speech genres, the idea of a plurilingual, plurivocal, and pluristylistic language teaching is theoretically discussed and briefly illustrated. The results show that such an approach successfully led to meaningful and critical practices in the language classroom in Higher Education. 展开更多

As China’s economy has experienced rapid growth,the economic landscape for higher education institutions’financial systems has become increasingly intricate.Consequently,there has been a heightened demand for enhanced financial management in these institutions.Notably,in 2012,the country’s Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education introduced a new financial system for higher education institutions,and in 2022,the Ministry of Finance publicly revised this system to further standardize financial practices within higher education institutions,align with financial management requirements,and foster the development of these institutions.This paper offers an extensive examination of the updated financial system for higher education institutions compared to the previous version,delving into aspects such as the financial management framework,professionalization criteria for financial directors,enhancements in managing the proceeds from technology and research achievements,and the incorporation of management accounting reports.Additionally,it provides a comprehensive analysis of the challenges faced by financial management in higher education institutions and outlines strategies for addressing these issues. 展开更多

AI-assisted Assessment in Higher Education:A Systematic Review

AI tools are increasingly used in education,impacting teaching and learning across various disciplines.However,previous review articles and empirical studies have not systematically discussed the application of AI in higher education assessment,the impact on user acceptance during its application,and the future opportunities and challenges.This systematic review aims to understand the application of AI tools in assessment,factors that influence students'and educators'perceptions,and related challenges and opportunities.Analyzing 81 empirical studies through matrix coding and content analysis,the results show that AI tools are used in intelligent tutoring and personalized learning,giving automated assessment and feedback,virtual classroom and online collaboration,learning analytics and prediction,knowledge management and resource recommendation,and educational chat assistants.AI tools offer high-quality,real-time,personalized feedback,improving cognitive and metacognitive skills and fostering positive emotions.Despite the benefits,challenges such as security and privacy concerns,algorithmic bias,unreliable feedback,negative attitudes,insufficient abilities,academic integrity issues,and lack of proper guidance persist.To advance our understanding of AI as an assessment tool,we call for studies that explore ways to enhance teachers’and students’perceptions and refine guidelines to prevent academic dishonesty and ensure responsible AI use. 展开更多

There are so many university ranking systems for academic performance as based on different criteria in the world.These systems,which have been considered since beginning of 2000’s years,have quickly followed with their own hierarchical measures by higher education organizations.This paper mentions the main principles of a new system for university performance in Turkey and summarizes the study,which was made for the performance of selected universities throughout country.The system depends on teaching income,teaching structure,teaching quality,number of publications and projects,the index for entrepreneurial and innovative university,and student satisfaction.The aim is to provide a comparative study with well-balanced and justice decision for the related universities.This study includes the 10 universities(Anadolu,Çukurova,Cumhuriyet,Dicle,Erciyes,Fırat,İnönü,Ondokuz Mayis,Selçuk,and Uludağ)which were founded between 1973 and 1978.In this study,data belonging to the period of 2010 and 2014 have been considered for the related universities.This study indicates that enlargement rate,localization,politicization,and degradation on management system influence the performance of universities. 展开更多

The change in the mode of thinking is the key point for Chinese higher education, and more intensive reform of teaching affairs is necessary. Higher education internationalization(HEI)has become an important priority for global decision makers and education providers.Persuaded by globalization,HEI is a political strategy and economic prospect for countries,governments,and universities to position themselves in global markets.The purpose of this paper is to provide a methodological pathway to develop a dynamic,reformed South African HEI framework based on the transformative drive(i.e.,adjustment of change,learning,shared knowledge,internationalization,globalization an institutionalized memory)of HEI in China.The interpretivist paradigm constitutes the basic research approach.Quantitative and qualitative data will be collected,analyzed,and integrated using a multiphase mixed methods approach.This approach consists of three phases including content analysis(Phase I),in-depth interviews(Phase II),and surveys(Phase III),which answers the focal research question.The significance of this research includes creating a better understanding of South African higher education(HE)policy issues from a transformational perspective,contributing to theory on how internationalization affects HE’s position in economic and social development and broadening knowledge and understanding of the unique circumstances and challenges of HEI in developing countries,particularly in countries seeking to position themselves in the globalized knowledge economy. 展开更多
