Computation of Load Flow Problems with Homotopy Methods

All of the flow equation solutions must be computed to explore the mechanisms of voltage instability and voltage collapse. Conventional algorithms, such as Newton's methods and its variations, are not very desirable because they can not be easily used to find all of the solutions. This paper investigates homotopy methods which can be used for numerically computing the set of all isolated solutions of multivariate polynomial systems resulting from load flow computations. The present work describes the fractional view analysis of Newell-Whitehead-Segal equations,using an innovative technique.The work is carried with the help of the Caputo operator of fractional derivative.The analytical solutions of some numerical examples are presented to confirm the reliability of the proposed method.The derived results are very consistent with the actual solutions to the problems.A graphical representation has been done for the solution of the problems at various fractional-order derivatives.Moreover,the solution in series form has the desired rate of convergence and provides the closed-form solutions.It is noted that the procedure can be modified in other directions for fractional order problems. 展开更多

This study investigates the flow and heat transfer of dusty Williamson (MHD) Nanofluid flow over a stretching permeable cylinder in a porous medium. Dusty Williamson Nanofluid was considered due to its thermal properties and potential benefits of increasing the heat transfer rate. Firstly, partial differential equations are transformed into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations through a similarity variables transformation. The resulting set of dimensionless equations is solved analytically by using the Homogony Perturbation Method (HPM). The effects of the emerging parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles as well as skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number are publicized through tables and graphs with appropriate discussions. The present result has been compared with published papers and found to be in agreement. To the best of author’s knowledge, there has been sparse research work in the literature that considers the effect of dust with Williamson Nanofluid and also solving the problem analytically. Therefore to the best of author’s knowledge, this is the first time analytical solution has been established for the problem. The results revealed that the fluid velocity of both the fluid and dust phases decreases as the Williamson parameter increases. Motivated by the above limitations and the gaps in past works, therefore, it is hoped that the present work will assist in providing accurate solutions to many practical problems in science, industry and engineering. 展开更多

Unlike perturbation methods, HAM is not dependent on any small physical parameters at all, and thus valid for both weakly and strongly nonlinear problems. In addition, HAM is different from all other analytic techniques in providing a simple way to adjust and control convergence region of the series solution by means of an auxiliary parameter h. In the present paper, a periodic analytic approximations for nonlinear oscillations with parametric excitation are obtained by using HAM, and the results are validated by numerical simulations. 展开更多

We have deduced incremental harmonic balance an iteration scheme in the (IHB) method using the harmonic balance plus the Newton-Raphson method. Since the convergence of the iteration is dependent upon the initial values in the iteration, the convergent region is greatly restricted for some cases. In this contribution, in order to enlarge the convergent region of the IHB method, we constructed the zeroth-order deformation equation using the homotopy analysis method, in which the IHB method is employed to solve the deformation equation with an embedding parameter as the active increment. Taking the Duffing and the van der Pol equations as examples, we obtained the highly accurate solutions. Importantly, the presented approach renders a convenient way to control and adjust the convergence. 展开更多

In this communication a generalized three- dimensional steady flow of a viscous fluid between two infinite parallel plates is considered. The flow is generated due to uniform stretching of the lower plate in x- and y-directions. It is assumed that the upper plate is uniformly porous and is subjected to constant injection. The governing system is fully coupled and nonlinear in nature. A complete analytic solution which is uniformly valid for all values of the dimensionless parameters β Re and λ is obtained by using a purely analytic technique, namely the homotopy analysis method. This paper considers a fault-tolerant decentralized H-infinity control problem for multi-channel linear time-invariant systems. The purpose is to design a decentralized H-infinity output feedback controller to.stabilize the given system and achieve a certain H-infinity performance requirement both in the normal situation and in the situation where any one of the local controllers fails. The designed problem is reduced to a feasibility problem of a set of bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs). An algorithm is proposed to solve the BMIs. First, the normal situation is considered where all the local controllers are functioning. The local controllers are obtained from a standard centralized H-infinity controller by using a homotopy method imposing a structural constraint progressively. Secondly, the above case is extended to the one where any one of the local controllers fails. We again use a homotopy method where the coefficient matrices of the failed controller are decreased progressively to zero. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by an example. 展开更多

Using both methods it obtains the similarity reduction solutions and similarity reduction equations of different orders, showing that the approximate homotopy direct method yields more general approximate similarity reductions than the approximate homotopy symmetry method. Nonlinear dynamic equation is a common engineering model.There is not precise analytical solution for most of nonlinear differential equations.These nonlinear differential equations should be solved by using approximate methods.Classical perturbation methods such as LP method,KBM method,multi-scale method and the averaging method on weakly nonlinear vibration system is effective,while the strongly nonlinear system is difficult to apply.Approximate solutions of primary resonance for forced Duffing equation is investigated by means of homotopy analysis method (HAM).Different from other approximate computational method,the HAM is totally independent of small physical parameters,and thus is suitable for most nonlinear problems.The HAM provides a great freedom to choose base functions of solution series,so that a nonlinear problem may be approximated more effectively.The HAM provides us a simple way to adjust and control the convergence region of the series solution by means of an auxiliary parameter and the auxiliary function.Therefore,HAM not only may solve the weakly non-linear problems but also may be suitable for the strong non-linear problem.Through the approximate solution of forced Duffing equation with cubic non-linearity,the HAM and fourth order Runge-Kutta method of numerical solution were compared,the results show that the HAM not only can solve the steady state solution,but also can calculate the unsteady state solution,and has the good computational accuracy. 展开更多
