High temperature deformation behavior and optimization of hot compression process parameters in TC11 titanium alloy with coarse lamellar original microstructure 被引量:4

The high temperature deformation behaviors of α+β type titanium alloy TC11 (Ti-6.5Al-3.5Mo-1.5Zr-0.3Si) with coarse lamellar starting microstructure were investigated based on the hot compression tests in the temperature range of 950-1100 ℃ and the strain rate range of 0.001-10 s-1. The processing maps at different strains were then constructed based on the dynamic materials model, and the hot compression process parameters and deformation mechanism were optimized and analyzed, respectively. The results show that the processing maps exhibit two domains with a high efficiency of power dissipation and a flow instability domain with a less efficiency of power dissipation. The types of domains were characterized by convergence and divergence of the efficiency of power dissipation, respectively. The convergent domain in a+fl phase field is at the temperature of 950-990 ℃ and the strain rate of 0.001-0.01 s^-1, which correspond to a better hot compression process window of α+β phase field. The peak of efficiency of power dissipation in α+β phase field is at 950 ℃ and 0.001 s 1, which correspond to the best hot compression process parameters of α+β phase field. The convergent domain in β phase field is at the temperature of 1020-1080 ℃ and the strain rate of 0.001-0.1 s^-l, which correspond to a better hot compression process window of β phase field. The peak of efficiency of power dissipation in ℃ phase field occurs at 1050 ℃ over the strain rates from 0.001 s^-1 to 0.01 s^-1, which correspond to the best hot compression process parameters of ,8 phase field. The divergence domain occurs at the strain rates above 0.5 s^-1 and in all the tested temperature range, which correspond to flow instability that is manifested as flow localization and indicated by the flow softening phenomenon in stress-- strain curves. The deformation mechanisms of the optimized hot compression process windows in a+β and β phase fields are identified to be spheroidizing and dynamic recrystallizing controlled by self-diffusion mechanism, respectively. The microstructure observation of the deformed specimens in different domains matches very well with the optimized results. 展开更多

The present paper deals with the technical feature of the HETL, the test section and the thermal performance test of the HGD. The HGD test section with a triple tube structure includes an inner heater, a HGD model and a coldhot gas mixer. A counterflow of cold and hot helium gas under the pressure of about 3.0 MPa and the minimum temperature of 100℃ in the annular passage and the maximum of 950℃ in the central tube of the HGD model was formed. The HGD model was undergone 20 times of pressure cycle test under the pressure ranging from 0.1 to 3.4 MPa, 18 times of the temperature cycle test under the temperature ranging from 100 to 950℃ and high temperature (700 to 950℃) helium flow test for a period of more than 350 hours. The effective thermal conductivity (λeff) of the internal insulation of the HGD was investigated experimentally. The relationship of the effective thermal conductivity with the average tmperature of the internal insulation layer is λeff(W/m/℃)=0.3512+0.0003T(℃). The test results indicate that the HGD model has good abilities to resist heat flux from the central tube to the annular passage, temperature variations, and pressure variations. 展开更多

Based on the daily maximum surface air temperature records from an updated homogenized temperature dataset for 549 Chinese stations during 1960-2008,we reveal that there is an abrupt increase in the number of days with high temperature extremes (HTEs,an HTE day is defined when the maximum temperature exceeds the 95th percentile of the daily maximum temperature distributions) across China in the mid-1990s.Before this regime shift,the average number of HTE days is about 2.9 d yr 1 during the period from the 1970s to the early 1990s,while it rocketed to about 7.2 d yr 1 after the mid-1990s.We show that the significant HTE day increase occurs uniformly across the whole of China after the regime shift.The observational evidence raises the possibility that this change in HTE days is associated with global-scale warming as well as circulation adjustment.Possible causes for the abrupt change in the HTE days are discussed,and the circulation adjustment is suggested to play a crucial role in the increase in HTE days in this region. 展开更多

Oxidation characteristics of Alloy 617 and Haynes 230 at 900 oC in simulated helium environment,hot steam environment containing H2 as well as in air and pure helium conditions were investigated.Compared to air condition,the oxidation rate of Alloy 617 was not significantly affected in helium and hot steam environments,while Haynes 230 showed lower oxidation rate in helium environment.On the other hand,the oxide morphology and structure of Alloy 617 were strongly affected by the environments,but those of Haynes 230 were less dependent on the environments.For Haynes 230,a Cr2O3 inner layer and a protective MnCr2O4 outer layer were formed in all environments,which contributed to the better oxidation resistance.As the mechanical properties,such as creep and tensile properties,were significantly affected by the oxidation behaviors,surface treatment methods to enhance oxidation resistance of these alloys should be developed. 展开更多

Based on the daily maximum air temperature data from 300 stations in China from 1958 to 2008, the climatological distribution of the number of days with high temperature extremes (HTEs, maximum temperatures higher than 35℃) are studied with a focus on the long-term trends. Although the number of HTE days display well-defined sandwich spatial structures with significant decreasing trends in central China and increasing trends in northern China and southern China, the authors show that the decrease of HTE days in central China occurs mainly in the early period before the 1980s, and a significant increase of HTE days dominates most of the stations after the 1980s. The authors also reveal that there is a jump-like acceleration in the number of HTE days at most stations across China since the mid 1990s, especially in South China, East China, North China, and northwest China. 展开更多

Hot dry rock (HDR) geothermal energy, almost inexhaustible green energy, was first put forward in the 1970s. The development and testing of HDR geothermal energy are well reported in USA, Japan, UK, France and other countries or regions. In this paper, the geological characters of Yangbajing basin were first analyzed, including the continental dynamic environments to form HDR geothermal fields in Tibet, the tectonic characteristics of south slope of Nyainqentanglha and Dangxiong-Yangbajing basin, and the in-situ stresses based on the investigations conducted, and then the site-specific mining scheme of HDR geothermal resources was proposed. For the potential development of HDR geothermal energy, a series of experiments were conducted on large-scale granite samples, 200 mm in diameter and 400 mm in length, at high temperature and high triaxial pressure for cutting fragmentation and borehole stability. For the borehole stability test, a hole of 40 mm in diameter and 400 mm in length was aforehand drilled in the prepared intact granite sample. The results indicate that the cutting velocity obviously increases with temperature when bit pressure is over a certain value, while the unit rock-breaking energy consumption decreases and the rock-breaking efficiency increases with temperature at the triaxial pressure of 100 MPa. The critical temperature and pressure that can result in intensive damage to granite are 400-500℃ and 100-125 MPa, respectively. 展开更多

Although the development of titanium alloys with working temperatures above 600?C faces enormous difficulties and challenges,the related research has not stopped.In the present work,detailed analyses on microstructure evolution and hot deformation behavior of a new temperature resistant 650?C titanium alloy Ti65 were investigated from micrometer scale to nanometer scale.The results revealed that lamellarαgrains gradually fragmentized and spheroidized during theα+βphase region compression and the orientation of the c-axis ofαgrains gradually aligned to radial directions,forming two high Schmid factors(SFs)value texture eventually with the increase of strain to 0.7.Moreover,there were some strengthening characters in theα+βphase region such as lenticularαsand nano silicide(TiZr)6 Si3.In theβphase region,fine equiaxed dynamic recrystallized(DRX)βgrains were formed.Besides,the variant selection ofαm′artensite followed Burgers orientation relationship during the compression process.The main deformation mechanisms of theα+βphase region were dislocation slip and orientation dependent spheroidization.Whereas,the deformation process in theβphase region was controlled byβgrain DRX.Interestingly,many nano scale FCC twins were generated at the interface ofαl′ath during deforming in theβphase region,which was firstly observed in Ti65 alloy. 展开更多

Understanding the differences in mechanical properties and damage characteristics of granitoid under high temperatures is crucial for exploring deep geothermal resources.This study analyzes the evolution of the acoustic emission(AE)characteristics and mechanical parameters of granodiorite and granite after heating and water cooling by uniaxial compression and variable-angle shear tests under different temperature gradients.We identify their changes in mesostructure and mineral composition with electron probe microanalysis and scanning electron microscopy.Results show that these two hot dry rocks have similar diagenetic minerals and microstructure,but show significantly different mechanical and acoustic characteristics,and even opposing evolution trends in a certain temperature range.At the temperatures ranging from 100℃to 500℃,the compressive and shear mechanical properties of granodiorite switch repeatedly between weakening and strengthening,and those of granite show a continuous weakening trend.At 600℃,both rocks exhibit a deterioration of mechanical properties.The damage mode of granite is characterized by initiating at low stress,exponential evolutionary activity,and intensified energy release.In contrast,granodiorite exhibits the characteristics of initiating at high stress,volatile evolutionary activity,and intermittent energy release,due to its more stable microstructure and fewer thermal defects compared to granite.As the temperature increases,the initiation and propagation of secondary cracks in granodiorite are suppressed to a certain extent,and the seismicity and brittleness are enhanced.The subtle differences in grain size,microscopic heterogeneity,and mineral composition of the two hot dry rocks determine the different acoustic-mechanical characteristics under heating and cooling,and the evolution trends with temperature.These findings are of great significance for the scientific and efficient construction of rock mass engineering by rationally utilizing different rock strata properties. 展开更多

The effect of a sputtered Ti-48AI-8Cr-2Ag (at. pct) coating on the oxidation resistance of the cast Ti-46.5AI-5Nb (at. pct) alloy was investigated in air at 1000-1100℃. Hot corrosion in molten 75 wt pct Na2SO4+25 wt pct K2SO4 was investigated at 900℃. The scale on the cast TiAINb tends to spall in air, while the scale on coating is very adherent. The sputtered Ti-48AI-8Cr-2Ag coating remarkably improved high temperature oxidation resistance of the cast Ti-46.5AI-5Nb alloy because of the formation of an adherent Al2O3 scale. Due to the inward diffusion of Cr, Kirkendall voids were found at the coating/substrate interface. TiAICrAg coating provided excellent hot corrosion resistance for TiAINb alloy in molten 75 wt pct Na2SO4+25 wt pct K2S04 at 900℃ due to the formation of a continuous Al_2O_3 scale. 展开更多

Potential application of graphene nanoplatelets as a high temperature lubricant for hot rolling

Graphene has been shown to be a promising solid lubricant to reduce friction and wear of the sliding counterparts,and currently is reported to only function below 600℃.In this study,its potential as a lubricant above 600℃ was studied using a ball-on-disc tribo-meter and a rolling mill.Friction results suggest that a reduction up to 50%can be obtained with graphene nanoplatelets(GnP)under lubricated conditions between 600 and 700℃ when compared with dry tests.and this friction reduction can last more than 3 min.At 800 and 900℃,the friction reduction is stable for 70 and 40 s,respectively,which indicates that GnP can potentially provide an effective lubrication for hot metal forming processes.Hot rolling experiments on steel strips indicate that GnP reduces the rolling force by 11%,7.4%,and 6.9%at 795,890,and 960℃,respectively.These friction reductions are attributed to the easily sheared GnP between the rubbing interfaces.A temperature higher than 600℃ will lead to the gasification of the residual graphene on the strip surface,which is believed to reduce the black contamination from traditional graphite lubricant. 展开更多

In order to investigate the high-temperature performances of the asphalt pavement hot-applied sealant, as well as to reduce failures of the sealant pullout, the softening point test and the flow test(two existing methods for evaluating high-temperature performances) were conducted. It was found that both tests could not accurately reflect the adhesion performances of the sealant at high temperatures. For this purpose, the adhesion test for PSAT(pressure sensitive adhesive tape) has been taken as a reference to develop a device that is suitable for evaluating the adhesion performances, by modifying relevant test parameters according to the road conditions at high temperatures. Thirteen common sealants were tested in the modified adhesion test, softening point test and f low test. The experimental results show that no significant correlation(p〉0.05) exists between the adhesion value, softening point, adhesion value and flow value; while a significant correlation(p〈0.05) exists between the softening point and flow value. The modified adhesion test is efficient in distinguishing the hightemperature adhesion performances of different sealants, and can be used as a standard method for evaluating such performances. 展开更多

Microstructures,high-temperature oxidation and wear resistance of hot dipping Al-Si-Y coating on SCH12 heat resistant cast steel were investigated in this study.The aluminized coating was characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry(EDX)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The results showed that the coating was composed of the Al-rich outer layer and the intermetallics inner layer.In the Al-rich layer,some Y-rich precipitates and Fe-Al-Si-Cr precipitates could be observed.The intermetallics layer presented three layers induced by the increase of Fe,Cr,Ni content and the corresponding decrease of Al,Si content.The oxidation tests were conducted in still air at 850℃for up to 100 h.After oxidation,a top oxide scale composed of mainlyα-Al2O3,Al5Y3O12 was formed on the steel surface.The intermetallics beneath the oxide scale consisted of mainly FeAl and small amount of Fe2Al5 and Cr3Si phase.The mass gain of the coated and uncoated SCH1steel is 0.45 mg/cm 2 and 0.57 mg/cm 2,respectively.The wear resistance was investigated using a high-temperature pin-on-disc tribometer at 650℃.The wear rate for the coated and uncoated steel is 0.45μm 3 /μm.N and 3.01μm 3 /μm.N,respectively.The high temperature wear tests and oxidation tests results demonstrated that the yttrium-modified aluminized specimen had significantly improved high-temperature wear resistance and equivalent oxidation resistance compared with the original SCH12 specimen. 展开更多

Cr is the most important element in nickel-based alloys to prevent high temperature oxidation and corrosion. However, high-Cr content will lead to a decline of hot workability which limits the addition of Cr for most nickel-based superalloys. In order to add more Cr into Ni-based alloy for improving high temperature oxidation and corrosion resistance, the poor hot workability of high-Cr alloy must be first solved. Deformation characteristic of a high-Cr nickel-based alloy (40 wt% Cr) under hot compression conditions at 800-1200 ℃ has been investigated by using a Gleeble 3500 machine, and the microstructural evolution during hot working process has been observed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that a high-temperature low-plasticity (HTLP) region exists in this high-Cr nickel-based alloy. This phenomenon can be attributed to its non-uniform interdendritic microstructure at high temperatures. These results can explain the poor hot workability of high-Cr nickel-based alloy. 展开更多

In the summer of 2021,southern Xinjiang,China,experienced a temporary period of high temperature extremes.Because of this weather event,jujube futures prices rose by more than 50%in a short time.To clarify the influence mechanism of these two events,we investigated the current status of jujube farming and collected investors’online comments.We analysed these comments specifically using textual analysis tools,such as co-word networks.Results showed that the concerns of investors about the reduction in jujube production triggered by high temperature extremes were the primary reason for the rapid rise in jujube futures prices.Especially in combination with the cultivation density of jujube and their adaptability to the growing environment,a new understanding can be obtained.That is to say,when a crop is excessively densely cultivated in a region and is highly sensitive to a meteorological variable anomaly at a certain growth stage,a less destructive local extreme weather event could induce severe panic among investors regarding production reduction and thus influence the normal changes in futures price.In response to the impact mechanisms revealed in this study,we proposed policy recommendations,such as strengthening the degree of crop damage disclosure and designing weather futures derivatives,to address similar situations in the future.This study not only fills the gap in the research on the impact paths of high temperature extremes on jujube futures prices but also has a reference value for securing the stability of futures prices of related agricultural products in the future. 展开更多

In July 2013, the Jianghuai–Jiangnan region of China experienced a persistent extreme high temperature,and the surface air temperature(SAT) over many areas of the region set a new record, which had a profound impact on people's lives. This study explored the possible mechanism for this extreme climate phenomenon. The results show that the sea surface temperature(SST) over the midNorth Atlantic in July 2013 was the warmest observed over the past 160 years. The strong anomaly of the SST connects to the East Asian upper level westerly and western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH) via the teleconnection wave train and further contributes to the SAT variability over the Jianghuai–Jiangnan region; this connection could be one possible mechanism for the formation of the recordbreaking extreme hot event(EHE) over the Jianghuai–Jiangnan region in July 2013. In addition, for the EHE over the Jianghuai–Jiangnan region, the role of the WPSH was generally emphasised. This study found that the variability of the upper level westerly over the Jianghuai–Jiangnan region is also an important climate factor impacting the SAT of the region. In particular, the record-breaking weakness of the upper level westerly corresponded to the record-breaking SAT over the Jianghuai–Jiangnan region in July 2013. These results indicate that the role of the upper level westerly should be emphasised in addition to the WPSH, according to both the variability in the summer air temperature and the EHE over the Jianghuai–Jiangnan region. 展开更多

A high blast temperature is an effective measure that improves pulverized coal injection (PCI)and energy consumption,decreases the cost of blast furnaces (BF). Apart from using technology such as the increased vault temperature of the hot-blast stove, the increased temperature of the waste gas, the preheating of combustion air and gas, and fully closed mixed air valves, other measures, such as using an oxygen-enriched blast stove, burning high heating value converter gas, increasing the number of stove changes to reduce the time needed for stove blasts, were taken to increase the blast temperature of the 2 500 m3 BF in recent years. The blast temperature of the 2 500 m3 BF was continuously increased in these years. The monthly average temperature of the 2 500 m3 BF reached 1 158℃, with the highest blast temperature reaching 1 195 ℃ in 2006. This technique of increased blast temperatures has reached an advanced level in China. 展开更多

A new hot-work die steel for hot stamping was developed, and used the die for mass production. The produced die showed good performance owing to its high heat conductivity and wear-resistant characteristics. Two different benchmarking hot-work die steels were investigated, and then compared in terms of their impact ductility, temper characteristics ,heat conductivity, and thermal stability. The result of the high-temperature friction wear test indicated that oxidative wear was the main mode in high temperature. On the basis of the comparison and test results, the alloying composition of the new hot-work die steel was especially designed. The new die steel showed good performance with good wear-resistant quality, as well as temper hardness and heat conductivity of HRC 50 and 34.3 W/( m ~ K), respectively. Furthermore, without surface plasma nitriding, the die made of the new steel had no obvious galling with 6 142 strokes. After surface plasma nitriding, the die completed 40 000 strokes with good surface. The die life is expected to exceed 200 000 strokes. 展开更多

The densification, microstructure, and mechanical properties of Si3N4 ceramics prepared using this method were compared with those obtained by hot pressing process. Well densified Si3N4 ceramics with finer and homogeneous microstructure and better mechanical properties were obtained in the case of the SPS technique at 200°C lower than that of hot pressing. The microhardness is 15.72 GPa, the bending strength is 716.46 MPa, and the fracture toughness is 7.03 MPa·m1/2. 展开更多
