Observations and models indicate that human activities exert a considerable impact on the frequency and intensity of extreme temperature events,which are associated with global warming.However,changes in the duration ...Observations and models indicate that human activities exert a considerable impact on the frequency and intensity of extreme temperature events,which are associated with global warming.However,changes in the duration of extreme temperature events and their association with human influence have not been considered in most studies.Thus,the possible relationship between the observed changes in the warm and cold spell duration(WSDI and CSDI)in hotspot regions during 1960-2014 and human influence was investigated based on the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis version 1 and Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6)data.Constraint projection based on these attribution results was also performed.The optimal fingerprinting technique was used to compare observed changes in WSDI and CSDI to simulated changes averaged across eight CMIP6 models.Results show that anthropogenic(ANT)forcing contributed to the observed increase in WSDI in the three hotspot regions(West Asia,South Asia and Southeast Asia),with the majority of the changes being attributed to greenhouse gas forcing.However,a generally weak ANT signal can be observed in the decreasing trend of CSDI and can be detected in South and Southeast Asia.The influence of aerosol forcing remains undetected in either WSDI or CSDI,which differs from the results for frequency and intensity of extreme temperatures.The attribution results revealed that the constrained projection of WSDI is lower than the raw projection for 2015-2100 in West Asia and Southeast Asia.However,no differences in future CSDI changes are found in Southeast Asia between the constrained and raw projections.展开更多

Since 2015, community forests have been promoted in Togo as an alternative to protect areas from degradation and as a means of contributing to forest landscape restoration. The study focuses on the Nakpadjouak Communi...Since 2015, community forests have been promoted in Togo as an alternative to protect areas from degradation and as a means of contributing to forest landscape restoration. The study focuses on the Nakpadjouak Community Forest (NCF) in Tami (Togo, West Africa) which contributes to community forests sustainable management. It aims in (i) mapping forest ecosystems and analysing their dynamic and (ii) characterizing the floristic diversity of the NCF. The ecosystems were mapped and their dynamic was evaluated based on Google Earth images of 2014 and 2020. Floristic and forestry inventories were carried out using the transect technique in a sample of 20 plots of 50 m × 20 m. The NCF was made up mainly by wooded/shrub savannahs (95.37%) and croplands/fallow (4.63%) in 2014. These two land use types undergone changes over the 6 years prior to 2020. By 2020, the NCF had 3 land use types: wooded/shrub savannahs (77.59%), open forest/wooded savannahs (22.23%), and croplands/fallows (0.18%). A total of 89 plant species belonging to 70 genera and 28 families were recorded within the NCF. The dominant species are: Heteropogon contortus (L.) P.Beauv. and Combretum collinum Fresen. followed by Pteleopsissuberosa Engl. & Diels, Annona senegalensis Pers. The most common species are: Lannea acida A.Rich. s.l., A. senegalensis, Vitellaria paradoxa C.F.Gaertner subsp. paradoxa, C. collinum and Acacia dudgeonii Craib ex Holland. Due to its small area of just 40 hectares and its diverse plant life, this community forest of Savannahs Region is a significant biodiversity hotspot and warrants conservation efforts.展开更多

Species of the Pinus genus provide a classical model for studying hybrid speciation.Although studies on two narrowly distributed species(P inus funebris and P.takahasii)concluded that they originated from two widespre...Species of the Pinus genus provide a classical model for studying hybrid speciation.Although studies on two narrowly distributed species(P inus funebris and P.takahasii)concluded that they originated from two widespread species(P.sylvestris and P.densiflora)via hybrid speciation,the conclusion was based on a low number of informative restriction sites.In this study,we analyzed the sequences of four Pinus chloroplast(cp)genomes(P.sylvestris,P.densiflora,P.funebris and P.takahasii)to clarify whether hybrid speciation was involved.The complete cp-genomes of Pinus species ranged in size from 119,865 to 119,890 bp,similar to other Pinus species.Phylogenetic results based on the whole cp-genomes showed P.sylvestris clustered with P.funebris and P.takahasii,which suggested that P.sylvestris was the paternal parent in hybridization events.In an analysis of simple sequence repeats(SSRs),we detected a total of 69 SSRs repeats among the four Pinus cp-genomes;most were A or T bases.In addition,we identified divergent hotspot regions among the four Pinus cp-genomes(trnE-clpP,cemA-ycf4,petD-rpoA,psbD-trnT,and trnN-chlL),in P.sylvestris(psbD-trnT,trnN-chlL,psbB and rps8)and in P.densiflora(trnE-clpP,petD-rpoA,ycf3 intron,psbD-trnT,and trnN-chlL).The genome information found in this study provides new insights into hybrid speciation in P inus and contributes to a better understanding of the phylogenetic relationships within the Pinus genus.展开更多
Citrus Tristeza Virus(CTV),usually occurs in nature as a mixture of genotypes.Six naturally infected citrus(Citrus sinensis)trees grafted on sour orange rootstock were collected from three citrus growing governorates ...Citrus Tristeza Virus(CTV),usually occurs in nature as a mixture of genotypes.Six naturally infected citrus(Citrus sinensis)trees grafted on sour orange rootstock were collected from three citrus growing governorates in Egypt(Sharqia,Qalyubia and Garbia).In this study,RT-PCR,Single-Strand Conformation Polymorphism(SSCP)and nucleotide sequence analysis were used for four independent CTV genomic regions(p65,p18,p20,and p23)to detect and assess the sequence and genetic variabilities among CTV Egyptian isolates.RTPCR products(650 bp)for the CTV p23 gene obtained from the selected isolates were used for the SSCP analysis and DNA sequencing.SSCP patterns of p23 gene for individual isolates yielded different complex haplotype patterns.Nucleotide sequence analysis of p23 region amplified from six isolates under study revealed that p23 shared high nucleotide identity 98.7%with T36 isolate from USA,Florida.Phylogenetic analysis of p23 gene indicated a close evolutionary relationship between all examined isolates and Qaha isolate(T36 isolate group),suggesting that they may have originated from closely related ancestors.Nucleotide sequence analysis of the three genes located on CTV 3′-coterminal overhang,p18,p20 and p65,amplified from isolate A3,Sharqia governorate,revealed that the p18,p65,and p20 genes were related to the T3-KB isolate from South Africa with 99%–100%sequence homology.Phylogenetic relationship analysis for p65,p18 and p20 ORFs clustered the current A3 isolate with T3 genotype group.The recombination analysis identified three of six isolates from Sharqia,and Garbia as potential recombinant for p23 gene.The isolates T36 and T3 were identified as major donors for recombination events in isolate A3.Our results concluded that p23 ORF likely to be as a hotspot region for recombination and originated through recombination event.The current study indicated that recombination is an important factor for the origin of CTV strains in Egypt.展开更多
