To design an efficient protocol for sharing the encrypted lock keys in the renting house system,we introduce a new notion called time-and identitybased proxy reencryption(TIPRE)and the blockchain platform.Our CPA secure TIPRE scheme is constructed from Green et al.’s identity-based proxy reencryption scheme by adding the time property.In every time period,a time stamp authority generates a public key embedded with the current time stamp for each user.In our protocol for the renting house system,the TIPRE scheme is the primary building block,and the blockchain platform serves instead of a trusted third party,such as a real estate agency between landlords and tenants.The TIPRE scheme allows the landlord to change the lock key at each time period for safety.The blockchain platform allows the landlords and tenants to directly interact,and all of the interactions are recorded in the blockchain database to provide the desired security requirements,such as nonrepudiation and unforgeability.Finally,we provide the secure analysis of our protocol and test its performance by implementing it in the MacBook Pro and the Intel Edison development platforms. 展开更多

Weak influence of natural vegetation in urban green spaces compared to agricultural ecosystems on House Martin populations:Insights from nationwide citizen science data in the Czech Republic

The House Martin(Delichon urbicum)is a common farmland bird species in the European landscape,yet its population numbers are currently in decline.However,it is not yet sufficiently explained why this long-term decline occurs.To fill this gap in our knowledge,we investigated how land cover composition affects the abundance of House Martins on the landscape scale by using nationwide citizen science data.Utilizing a generalised linear mixed-effect model(GLMM),we evaluated 12,094 records from the Czech Republic spanning 2009-2017.Our analysis underscores the significance of land cover type in shaping House Martin abundance.More specifically,our results indicate that within agricultural land covers“naturally managed arable lands”exhibited significant positive effect,while forests,orchards,and vineyards were deemed less favourable for House Martin populations.Within urban land covers,we found a clear distinction in the impact on House Martin populations,with a positive effect observed in urban infrastructure,development areas,and post-industrial sites(i.e.,UrbanAreas),while an indifferent impact was noted within urban green spaces and landscaped areas(i.e.,GreenUrban).Notably,our findings suggest that the simple spatial,age,and species structure typical of forests in Europe,and similarly,the uniform structure of parks and gardens,may be responsible for the decline in the abundance of the House Martin.We advocate for the preservation or enhancement of urban greenery,expansion of natural vegetation in rural areas and adoption of ecological management practices in orchards and vineyards to mitigate further declines in House Martin populations. 展开更多

The design and assembly of environmental monitoring and control system for large-scale pig house with fermentation bed helped to solve the problem of environmental automatic control in piggery.The sensors would monitor the temperature,humidity,light,wind direction,wind speed,CO2,NH3and other parameters.On-line real-time data collection was achieved.The expert system was constructed to control the temperature in piggery below 30℃,to control the air and mattress humidities higher than 65%.Under the conditions of different season or different wind speed,even in day and night,the control actuators were different.The actuators included fanning wet curtain,lighting,micro spraying,spraying,propeller fan,electric aluminum alloy shutter and spraying systems on the roof.The actuators were integrated,and they control the piggery environment simultaneously.The system also designed the remote video monitor interface,parameter-monitoring curved interface and operation interface,which provided a good man-machine interface. 展开更多

Based on the fact that the house dust usually falls on the ground, the floor level slit exhaust ventilation system including inlet located at the ceiling and outlet of slit exhaust installed at comer between wall and floor was considered. Experiments and simulations were performed to investigate the flow and diffusion fields that are affected by this floor level slit exhaust ventilation system. The characteristics of airflow with experiments and computation fluid dynamics (CFD) are generally similar except airflow at the location of impinging flow and the location right below the inlet. Riboflavin particles were used as the house dust. For the spatial distribution of riboflavin particles in the ventilation system before operation, due to the influence of gravity, different sizes of particles show smooth decay curve. After floor level slit exhaust ventilation system is operated, the decay rate of the particles becomes faster than that after the ventilation system is powered on, and the particles with diameter of 0.5-3.0 μm in the experimental data and calculated values show good agreement. 展开更多

Two practical crawlspace heating systems introduced in detached houses have been chosen as a field study. One is the crawlspace warm air heating system and the other is the crawlspace hot water circulation system. Based on the field study result, by using the simulation sol, ware, THERB, the effectiveness of the crawlspace warm air heating system has been examined. The effect of the factors, such as the wind amount circulating between crawlspace and indoor space, foundation insulation condition, and heat amount into the crawlspace, on the indoor thermal environment has been analyzed. Based on these analyses, the measured crawlspace heating system can make the average temperature of the living room above 20℃. These two houses have excellent thermal environment. According to the simulating result, heat amount input into crawlspace, which can make comfortable indoor thermal environment, for every month in heating period has been roughly concluded, and they are 600 W in December and March and 800 W in February and January, respectively. 展开更多

Energy consumption is increasing every year in building sector, utilization and development of alternative energy sources and technologies to support the requirements of every house. The hydrogen fuel cell is one of the latest technologies for distributed energy systems. This research is aim to grasp the energy saving performance of the hydrogen co-generation system in the detached house. First, it investigated on the demand-side energy consumption including electricity, cooling, heating and hot water. Second, it introduced a distributed energy resources (DER) system and set six cases to analyze the energy utilization. Different options for changing the heating, cooling, electricity and hot water systems were compared for this type of detached house, assuming basiccase as a reference. Changes in the fuel used, energy operation machines and also demand side and supply side were analyzed. Except past case, every case will be operated under the electricitytracking mode and heat-tracking mode. The comparisons and evaluations of the energy consumption between cases can suggest the environmental performance of the hydrogen co-generation system. 展开更多

Capturing Heat from a Batch Biochar Production System for Use in Greenhouses and Hoop Houses

Biochar is charcoal produced at comparatively high temperature and used as an agricultural amendment, which also sequesters carbon. Most of the research on biochar manufacture in the United States has either focused on large-scale continuous systems with multiple products or small batch systems with biochar as the only product. At James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, we have worked on a batch system to make high quality biochar while capturing the heat for use either as a backup system for hot water heating, or to heat a greenhouse in winter. The system is now in its third iteration. In the first, we used a small intramural grant to experiment with low cost material using a minimalist design. While the unit captured some heat, operation of the design was smoky and hazardous to handle. The second design, funded by a larger intramural research grant, captured considerable heat, made 8-10 kg of biochar per burn and captured up to 250 MJ per batch of biochar made, but remained smoky. The third generation pyrolysis unit was constructed on Avalon Acres Farm in Broadway, Virginia, funded by a 25 × 25 grant through James Madison University (JMU). This unit makes the same amount of biochar, with less smoke, and sends the captured heat to a storage tank to help heat a greenhouse and home on the site. Our average efficiency of heat transfer is 12.5% of the total heat value of the starting woody biomass, a number we believe can at least double. 展开更多

Currently,people pay more and more attention to the transitional resettlement of victims after various natural disasters.There is an urgent need for a large number of temporary houses to resettle the victims after natural disasters.Disaster-relief temporary houses(DTHs)played an important role in the post-disaster resettlement in the past,which can not only be produced on a large scale,but also can be quickly and conveniently erected,which were the main means to solve the problem of transitional resettlement.However,due to their temporary nature,there was no extra energy consuming system installed in the DTHs generally.Hence the indoor thermal environment inside the DTHs was severe in summer.In this study,combined with the field experimental tests of the DTHs in Wenchuan Earthquake and Lushan Earthquake and the experimental study of the full-size DTH,it found that the thermal environment inside the DTH was intolerably high in summer.It had negative impact on victims.In order to improve the thermal environment inside DTHs during post-disaster period which lacked of extra energy resources,this study used the method of combining phase change materials(PCMs)with walls of the DTH to explore its feasibility and effectiveness.The results showed that PCMs could effectively improve the thermal environment inside the DTH in summer.Furthermore,the difference of the composite positions between PCMs and the wall affected the improvement effect.The energy release rate of the PCMs assembly system(PAS)varied according to the positions of the PCMs. 展开更多

The creation methods of automated design system of a house foundation from blocks are discovered with Unified Modeling Language. Analyzed objects-classes: block, specification, model. Graphical system can design foundation, form specification of objects and create 3D model of house foundation. There are several types and different dimensions of concrete blocks. The program optimally arranges selected blocks so that monolithic parts will be minimal volume. Program selects a house foundation blocks from database by using ActiveX Data Objects technology, which by programming method connects drawing and database. Drawing's graphical objects have additional data from which exchange of data between graphical system and database is executed. Visualization system and example of house foundation from blocks project with specifications is presented. Creation problems of automated design system are discussed and conclusions are made. 展开更多

Students at California State University(CSU),Chico designed,built,and tested an off-grid solar powered tiny house and competed in the 2016 Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s(SMUD)Tiny House Competition.Top tier research institutions,predominantly undergraduate universities,and community colleges from all over California competed against one another in a variety of performance and aesthetic events in SMUD’s first ever competition.One of the main goals of the CSU,Chico’s Tiny House was to design and implement an autonomous energy management system to maximize energy capture,use,and efficiency and provide a seamless,comfortable,and uninterrupted indoor living environment.This system,smart residential energy management system(SREMS),was designed to monitor and sense solar energy collected and stored,indoor heating and cooling loads,occupant cooking and personal water heating needs,and electrical outlets and to determine and allow energy related activities given the amount of stored energy.Thermodynamic and heat transfer models were developed to predict heating,cooling,and appliance requirements.These models were used to size the solar array,battery storage,and appliances.SREMS was installed in the tiny house and its performance was tested and validated during the week long SMUD Tiny House competition.Results showed close correlation with the predicted energy requirements of the models,and the tiny house maintained net-zero energy use even during overcast and rainy skies throughout the three-day event.The CSU,Chico team won best control system and best technology at the statewide event.This paper describes the design,installation and testing results of CSU,Chico’s Tiny House SREMS. 展开更多

In this context, buildings with considerably reduced energy consumption are a key strategy to achieving energy savings and climate protection targets in both the residential and commercial/institutional sectors [1].
