In February 2006 National Malaria Control Program started freely distribution of Long Lasting Impregnated Nets (LLINs) for vulnerable groups to malaria infection (pregnant women and children under 5 years). After one year of distribution, there is a need to measure the use rate among vulnerable groups and explore factors affecting their use. The aim of the study was to investigate the use rate of long lasting impregnated nets among children under five years and pregnant women in Al Moneera city and Al Koozi villages of Hodieda governorate. <strong>Methodology:</strong> Cross section study with multistage sample, Random selection of one urban and one rural locality. 768 housewives were interviewed, proportionally allocated sample according to the number of vulnerable groups in each locality. Systematic random sample to select households. <strong>Results:</strong> The use rate of LLINs for vulnerable groups was 74.3% CI (71.2 - 77.4). There was no statistically significant association between the use of LLINs and residence, also with ages of housewives, occupation, type of house, but there is strong statistically significant association between use of LLINs and having correct information about how to use and to take care of them P value < 0.001, also with educational status of housewives;P value 0.03 and educational status of fathers;P value 0.01. (84%) have correct information about how to use and take care of LLINs and the main source of information was health workers who distributed them. Only 13.4% realized pregnant women as a vulnerable group to malaria infection while about 77.9% realized children as a vulnerable group to malaria infection. The main reason of LLINs use (84.8%) was protection from nuisance of insects. <strong>Conclusion and recommendations: </strong>There is shortage in the information about the protective effect of LLINs from malaria infection and the main reason of using them is protection from nuisance of insects. There is a need to increase health awareness about the role of LLINs in malaria prevention.展开更多

Methods: A cross sectional study on a random sample of known type 2 diabetic patients who were visiting seve...Objective: To identify the high risk group for developing obesity among a cohort of Saudi diabetic patients. Methods: A cross sectional study on a random sample of known type 2 diabetic patients who were visiting seven primary health care centers in Jeddah,Saudi Arabiawas conducted. Participants were categorized according to their Body Mass Index BMI into 4 groups. Prevalence of obesity was correlated to patients’ gender, age, smoking, educational level and employment status to identify the significant ones. Results: A total of 723 diabetics were included. Males to females’ ratio were almost equal (50.8% and 49.2% respectively). The mean BMI of group was 29.3 ± 6.1. Only (21.9%) of the studied diabetics were in their ideal range of body weight. The remaining was almost equally categorized as overweight or obese. More than one third (38.3%) were obese;among the obese: 22.4% had mild obesity, and 15.9% severe obesity. Percentage of severely obese females were almost triple that of males. The housewives were the least to have normal BMI ratio (15.2%). According to the calculated BMI it is found that being a non-smoker housewife is the significant predicting factor for being obese p 0.05. Conclusion: Prevention and educational programs should target non-smokers housewives Saudi diabetic patients who are at higher risk for developing obesity.展开更多

The television programs were Desperate Housewives, a program targeted toward females, and Blue Mountain State, a program targeted toward male teenagers. Our Town was Thornton Wilder’s most influential drama which had been widely performed in theaters and enjoyed constant popularity over the past eighty years.In Our Town,the scenes of female characters doing housework...Our Town was Thornton Wilder’s most influential drama which had been widely performed in theaters and enjoyed constant popularity over the past eighty years.In Our Town,the scenes of female characters doing housework and having daily chatting took a large part of the play.Firstly,the three major female characters in Our Town were depicted as traditional housewives who were devoted and confined to their families.Their personal dreams had all fallen through due to social conventions and the unrequited love to their families.As the story went on,unfortunate fates seized those weak females and left them miserable endings.Although gender stereotype is observed in the play,from the elaborate carving of female images,readers can still see Wilder’s special care for female characters.He made them the critical narrators of the story and let them tell the truth of human life.Plain though those housewives in Our Town were,they never failed to touch the audience and reveal the profound theme.展开更多
