The effectiveness of various compensation methods in different test scenarios, however, needs to be quantitatively evaluated. In this study, four compensation methods (i.e., the polynomial extrapolation, the linear acceleration extrapolation, the inverse compensation and the adaptive inverse compensation) are selected and compared experimentally using a frequency evaluation index (FEI) method. The effectiveness of the FEI method is first verified through comparison with the discrete transfer fimction approach for compensation methods assuming constant delay. Incomparable advantage is further demonstrated for the FEI method when applied to adaptive compensation methods, where the discrete transfer function approach is difficult to implement. Both numerical simulation and laboratory tests with predefined displacements are conducted using sinusoidal signals and random signals as inputs. Findings from numerical simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the FEI method is an efficient and effective approach to compare the performance of different compensation methods, especially for those requiring adaptation of compensation parameters.展开更多

The structure was divided into two substructures whereby a physical model of the bottom three stories was tested in the laboratory and the upper 37 stories were simulated numerically using ABAQUS. An overlapping domain method was employed for the bottom three stories to ensure the validity of the boundary conditions of the superstructure. Mixed control was adopted in the test. Displacement control was used to apply the horizontal displacement, while two controlled force actuators were applied to simulate the overturning moment, which is very large and cannot be ignored in the substructure hybrid test of high-rise buildings. A series of tests with earthquake sources of sequentially increasing intensities were carried out. The test results indicate that the proposed hybrid test method is a solution to reproduce the seismic response of high-rise concrete shear wall buildings. The seismic performance of the tested precast high-rise building satisfies the requirements of the Chinese seismic design code.展开更多

Using the equivalence principle, the original problem can be decomposed into two sub regions and solve each sub region separately. An interpolation scheme is proposed for communicating between the FDTD fields and WCIP wave, which will not require the effort of fitting the WCIP mesh to the FDTD cells in the interface region. This method is applied to calculate the scattering parameters of arbitrary (3-D) microwave structures. Applying FDTD to 3D discontinuity and WCIP to the remaining region preserves the advantages of both WCIP flexibility and FDTD efficiency. A comparison of the results with the FDTD staircasing data verifies the accuracy of the proposed method.展开更多

In order to make a theoretical improvement over the method and to reduce the difficulty in finite-difference solution of N-S equations at high Reynolds number, in the present paper, we suggest a new numerical simulation model and a theoretical method for domain decomposition hybrid combination of finite-difference method and vortex method. Specifically, the full flow field is decomposed into two domains. In the region of O(R) near the body surface (R is the characteristic dimension of body), we use the finite-difference method to solve the N-S equations and in the exterior domain, we take the Lagrange-Euler vortex method. The connection and coupling conditions for flow in the two domains are established. The specific numerical scheme of this theoretical model is given. Those methods are computationally efficient, however stable problems might sometimes be encountered in practical applications. In this work, we first analyze the linear stabilities of those methods based on the Heuristic theory. We find that the conservative hybrid method is linearly unstable if the numerical flux at the coupling interface is chosen to be 'downstream'. Then we introduce two ways of healing this defect. One is to choose the numerical flux at the coupling interface to be 'upstream'. The other is to employ a slope limiter function to enforce the hybrid method satisfying the local total variation diminishing (TVD) condition. In the end, numerical experiments are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.展开更多
