Aesthetic Immortality in Speak Memory

In an effort to find out how Nabokov manages to achieve aesthetic immortality in Speak Memory,a detailed text analysis is conducted on the techniques he has utilized.Afterwards,it draws the conclusion that Nabokov,firmly grounded on his own con⁃sciousness,manages to command memory with the help of imagination,thus,transforming this recreation of memory into a work of aesthetic eternity.

Photobiomodulation:a novel approach to promote trans-differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells into neuronal-like cells

Photobiomodulation,originally used red and near-infrared lasers,can alter cellular metabolism.It has been demonstrated that the visible spectrum at 451-540 nm does not necessarily increase cell proliferation,near-infrared light promotes adipose stem cell proliferation and affects adipose stem cell migration,which is necessary for the cells homing to the site of injury.In this in vitro study,we explored the potential of adipose-derived stem cells to differentiate into neurons for future translational regenerative treatments in neurodegenerative disorders and brain injuries.We investigated the effects of various biological and chemical inducers on trans-differentiation and evaluated the impact of photobiomodulation using 825 nm near-infrared and 525 nm green laser light at 5 J/cm2.As adipose-derived stem cells can be used in autologous grafting and photobiomodulation has been shown to have biostimulatory effects.Our findings reveal that adipose-derived stem cells can indeed trans-differentiate into neuronal cells when exposed to inducers,with pre-induced cells exhibiting higher rates of proliferation and trans-differentiation compared with the control group.Interestingly,green laser light stimulation led to notable morphological changes indicative of enhanced trans-differentiation,while near-infrared photobiomodulation notably increased the expression of neuronal markers.Through biochemical analysis and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays,we observed marked improvements in viability,proliferation,membrane permeability,and mitochondrial membrane potential,as well as increased protein levels of neuron-specific enolase and ciliary neurotrophic factor.Overall,our results demonstrate the efficacy of photobiomodulation in enhancing the trans-differentiation ability of adipose-derived stem cells,offering promising prospects for their use in regenerative medicine for neurodegenerative disorders and brain injuries.

Immortalization of epidural fat-derived mesenchymal stem cells: In vitro characterization and adipocyte differentiation potential

BACKGROUND Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)are promising candidates for regenerative therapy due to their self-renewal capability,multilineage differentiation potential,and immunomodulatory effects.The molecular characteristics of MSCs are influenced by their location.Recently,epidural fat(EF)and EF-derived MSCs(EF-MSCs)have garnered attention due to their potential benefits to the spinal microenvironment and their high expression of neural SC markers.However,their clinical applications are limited due to cell senescence and limited accessibility of EF.Although many studies have attempted to establish an immortalized,stable SC line,the characteristics of immortalized EF-MSCs remain to be clarified.AIM To establish and analyze stable immortalized EF-MSCs.METHODS The phenotypes of EF-MSCs were analyzed using optical microscopy.Cell immortalization was performed using lentiviral vectors.The biomolecular characteristics of the cells were analyzed by immunoblotting,quantitative PCR,and proteomics.RESULTS The immortalized EF-MSCs demonstrated a significantly extended lifespan compared to the control group,with well-preserved adipogenic potential and SC surface marker expression.Introduction of human telomerase reverse transcriptase genes markedly increased the lifespan of EF-MSCs.Proteomics analysis revealed substantial increase in the expression of DNA replication pathway components in immortalized EF-MSCs.CONCLUSION Immortalized EF-MSCs exhibited significantly enhanced proliferative capacity,retained adipogenic potential,and upregulated the expression of DNA replication pathway components.

Research on the Application of Immortal Cultures in Tourism Planning——A Case Study of Tourism Development of Xianshi Town in Zigong City of China

Through analyzing the relationship between immortal cultures and tourist activities, the authors proposed that birth of immortal thought was closely related to early tourist activities. The core idea of immortal cultures was in conformity with modern leisure cultures. Tourist resources in Ancient Xianshi Township were re-explored, and application of immortal cultures in tourism development of the town was studied. The authors proposed that both "immortal" and "salt" should be valued in the tourism development of ancient Xianshi Township, interaction and integration of immortal stories, immortal traces and scenic areas should be stressed in the application of immortal cultures, so as to incorporate "immortal bath" and modern salt bath, and to combine creation of fairyland with modern sightseeing and leisure agriculture.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the western world.Tumour cells acquire the hallmarks of cancer during the carcinogenic selection process.Cell immortality is one of the principal features acquired during this process which involves the stabilization of telomere length.It is achieved mainly,by telomerase activation.Thus,the discovery of telomeres and telomerase allowed an understanding of the mechanisms by which cells can become immortalized.Different studies have shown that tumour cells have shorter telomeres than nontumour cells and have detected telomerase activity in the majority of tumours.Survival studies have determined that telomere maintenance and telomerase activity are associated with poor prognosis.Taking into account all the results achieved by different groups,quantification and evaluation of telomerase activity and measurement of telomere length may be useful methods for additional biologic and prognostic staging of colorectal carcinoma.

The paper explores the symbolic meanings of roses in Shakespeare’s sonnets. In Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets, therose imagery is placed in a dominant position among all the other flower imagery. In general, rose is one of themost conventional images in the sonnet. But in addition to the traditional symbol of beauty and love, rose in thesonnet shows more symbolic meanings: a symbol of vitality and reproduction, a symbol of friendship and devotion,and a symbol of fidelity and immortality. The symbolic rose, to a great extent, reflects the Renaissance humanistShakespeare’s values and ideals of humanism. The Tree of Death and Eternal Life

The ＂Tree of Death＂ is a metaphor I use to unlock my Christian assumptions on how the dead attain eternal existence in the afterlife state. The tree＇s unconcealedness, in this life and presumably the next, along with the moral habits an agent develops in this life explain the obstinacy of the dead, that is, how the agent＇s irrevocable decision to side with the God of Abraham, or not, is possible. For that to be the case, the existential relationships that generate personal identity in this life must accompany （individuate） the subject in the next life. In Christian philosophy, the person-making process mirrors the relationships of the Blessed Trinity. While Martin Heidegger is not a Christian philosopher, his view on truth and being＇s unconcealedness provides a useful piece of the argument to continue the Thomistic case for personal immortality. Heidegger is not a catholic philosopher, but the focus he places on being＇s unconcealedness is consonant with the focus Thomas Aquinas puts on the intelligibility of being. While Heidegger＇s discussion of being is rooted in Dasein＇s finitude, the Thomistic interpretation of being situates unconcealedness within the perspective of God＇s creative act. His vision resets the possibility of applying Heidegger＇s fundamental ontology beyond temporality. The paper develops through a discussion of the Tree＇s ＂branches, trunk, and roots＂ to conclude that the Christian perspective transforms Heidegger＇s view of death into ＂the ultimate possibility of possibility.＂

Reading Borges at Iguazu Falls

An observer at Iguazu Falls tries to make sense of the inexpressible natural wonder through the texts of Jorge Luis Borges＇s essays and poems. Borges＇s paradoxes of time, immortality, and eternity give meaning to the vision, while the natural wonder gives substance to those idealist concepts derived from Berkeley. As a reader of Borges＇s fictions, I yield up my personal identity to an impersonal dreaming consciousness that resembles Berkeley＇s mind as a consciousness sustaining the reality I perceive. Borges writes in his poem ＂Dawning＂ that ＂ideas are not like marble, everlasting, but ever-renewing like a forest or a river＂. The cataracts of Iguazu are both eternal and immortal, eternal in the sense of removing our consciousness of time and confusing past, present, and future in constant repetition, and immortal in the sense of only existing in individual drops of water constantly disappearing and renewing in infinite repetition. The cataracts are perfect emblems of this immortality. The cataracts are time, infinite moments of immortality, moving forward, accelerating, repeating themselves identically, until they achieve a certain eternity, no motion, suspended in time. I am Berkeley＇s Eternal Spirit, the consciousness evoked by Borges in his essay, ＂A New Refutation of Time＂. Distance from the immediate impact of the Falls helps transform fear and horror into sublimity. The closer to the Falls, the more the observer feels fear and anguish at his own insignificance, a fear of annihilation. Aesthetic distance requires an image or word, something that exempts us from immediate contact, and allows us to descend into the whirlpool and come back to the calm surface. The vision evoked in writing and reading fiction is both prior and subsequent to the reading. Our vision of the universe is always inexpressible, a problem of accommodating something overwhelming to the limited schemata we use to grasp existence.

Comparative Study on Mongolian Version of Alexander Romance and Folktales About Alexander in Persian Language

The origin of Mongolian version of Alexander Romance has long been a confused issue. Nicholas Poppe, Francis Cleaves, and T. Namjil wrote articles about this, and assumed the Mongolian version of Alexander Romance was translated from Central Asian countries, more likely, Persian or Arabic, did not come up with determinate conclusion, though. In this paper, the authors aim at： （1） comparing the Mongolian version of Alexander Romance with the folktales about Alexander the Great in Persian language, which two are supposed to be the nearest; （2） analyzing the story structure （quest for immortality-denying the desire; belief of living forever-the truth of one must die）; and （3） explaining the background of Mongolian version of Alexander Romance, and as a result, arguing that the Mongolian version of Alexander Romance might not be a translated work; instead, it was edited and recreated in Buddhist thinking using the prevailing motif of Alexander＇s quest for immortality.

Actions of human telomerase beyond telomeres

Telomerase has fundamental roles in bypassing cellular aging and in cancer progression by maintaining telomere homeostasis and integrity. However, recent studies have led some investigators to suggest novel biochemical properties of telomerase in several essential cell signaling pathways without apparent involvement of its well established function in telomere maintenance. These observations may further enhance our understanding of the molecular actions of telomerase in aging and cancer. This review will provide an update on the extracurricular activities of telomerase in apoptosis, DNA repair, stern cell function, and in the regulation of gene expression.

Mechanisms of cell immortalization mediated by EB viral activation of telomerase in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma （NPC） is a common cancer in Southern China and Southeast Asia. The disease is a poorly differentiated carcinoma without effective cure, and the mechanism underlying its development remains largely unknown. Of several factors identified in NPC aetiology in recent years, Epstein-Barr virus （EBV） infection has emerged to be most important. In almost all NPC cells, EBV uses several intracellular mechanisms to cause oncogenic evolution of the infected cells. One such mechanism by which EBV infection induces cellular immortalization is believed to be through the activation of telomerase, an enzyme that is normally repressed but becomes activated during cancer development. Studies show that greater than 85% of primary NPC display high telomerase activity by mechanisms involving EBV infection, consistent with the notion that EBV is commonly involved in inducing cell immortalization. More recently, different EBV proteins have been shown to activate or inhibit the human telomerase reverse transcriptase gene, by modulating intracellular signalling pathways. These findings suggest a new model with a number of challenges towards our understanding, molecular targeting and therapeutic intervention in NPC.
