Roles of neural regeneration in memory pharmacology

Neural regeneration, or neuroregeneration, is a brain mechanism essential for rescuing cognitive functions pharmacologically against memory disorders and aging-related memory abnormality. In this short Perspective article, we intend to briefly present the essential roles of neuroregeneration and neural plasticity in learning and memory, memory disorders, and critical involvement in an effective treatment of memory disorders.

In memory of Professor Chen Jiangong(Chen Kien Kwong) on the 120th anniversary of his birth

This year is the 120th anniversary of China＇s famous mathematician and educator Professor Chen Jiangong＇s birth. In Zhejiang University（Hangzhou）, Fudan University（Shanhai） and Zhejiang Normal University（Jinhua）, commemoration events were held respectively. All the participants cherish the memory of Professor Chen＇s prominent contribution to the development of China＇s contemporary mathematics.

IN MEMORY OF PROFESSOR QIAN BAOGONG

Professor Qian Baogong, member of Academia Sinica, associate editor-in-chief of this journal, passed away on March 17,1992 at Wuhan. He was born on March 18, 1916 in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province and graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Wuhan University in Luoshan, Sichuan Province in 1940. He took his graduate study in 1947 at the Broo, klyn Polytechnic Institute in New York, and received M .S. degree from there.

An academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS）,Professor Changxuan Yu,a long-time professor of plasma physics at the University of Science and Technology of China （USTC）,Hefei,China,passed away in Hefei on May 23,2017.Professor Yu was born on July 7,1941,in Java Island,Indonesia,and then moved back to China in 1948 with his parents.He finished his high schooleducation in Xiamen City, Fujian Province in 1959, and was admi-tted to USTC, then located in Beijing. After graduating with excellence from USTC, which had been relocated to Hefei, Anhui Province, he stayed on as a faculty until his passing away. During this period he visited the University of California, Los Angeles, USA, from 1980 to 1982, 1989 to 1991, and 2000 to 2001 for research colla- boration. He was promoted to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and full Professor in 1979, 1985 and 1992, respectively, and elected as a CAS Academician in 2007 based on his outstanding achievements in plasma physics and nuclear fusion science, and great contributions to education and development of these fields in China.

A Fully-Integrated Memristor Chip for Edge Learning

It is still challenging to fully integrate computing in memory chip as edge learning devices.In recent work published on Science,a fully-integrated chip based on neuromorphic memristors was developed for edge learning as artificial neural networks with functionality of synapses,dendrites,and somas.A crossbar-array memristor chip facilitated edge learning including hardware realization,learning algorithm,and cycle-parallel sign-and threshold-based learning(STELLAR)scheme.The motion control and demonstration platforms were executed to improve the edge learning ability for adapting to new scenarios.
