Due to the unique deformation characteristics of auxetic materials(Poisson’s ratioμ<0),they have better shock resistance and energy absorption properties than traditional materials.Inspired by the concept of variable crosssection design,a new auxetic re-entrant honeycomb structure is designed in this study.The detailed design method of re-entrant honeycomb with variable cross-section(VCRH)is provided,and five VCRH structures with the same relative density and different cross-section change rates are proposed.The in-plane impact resistance and energy absorption abilities of VCRH under constant velocity are investigated by ABAQUS/EXPLICIT.The results show that the introduction of variable cross-section design can effectively improve the impact resistance and energy absorption abilities of auxetic re-entrant honeycombs.The VCRH structure has better Young’s modulus,plateau stress,and specific energy absorption(SEA)than traditional re-entrant honeycomb(RH).The influence of microstructure parameters(such as cross-section change rateα)on the dynamic impact performance of VCRH is also studied.Results show that,with the increase in impact velocity andα,the plateau stress and SEA of VCRH increase.A positive correlation is also found between the energy absorption efficiency,impact load uniformity andαunder both medium and high impact speeds.These results can provide a reference for designing improved auxetic re-entrant honeycomb structures. 展开更多

Bird strike studies on typical aluminium leading edges of the Horizontal Tail (HT) with and without Glass Fibre Shape Memory Polymer (GF-SMP) layers are carried out. A one-fifth scaled model of HT is designed and fabricated. The parameters like bird dimension and energy requirements are accordingly scaled to conduct the bird strike tests. Two leading-edge components have been prepared, namely one with AL 2024-T3 aluminium alloy and the other specimen of the same dimension and material, additionally having GF-SMP composite layers inside the metallic leading edge, in order to enhance its impact resistance. Bird strike experiments are performed on both the specimens, impacting at the centre of the leading edge in the nose tip region with an impact velocity of 115 m/s. The test component is instrumented with linear post-yield strain gauges on the top side and the PZT sensors on the bottom. Furthermore, the impact scenario is monitored using a high-speed camera at 7000 fps. The bird strike event is simulated by an equation of state model, in which the mass of the bird is idealized using smooth particle hydrodynamics element in PAMCRASH<sup>?</sup><sup> </sup>explicit solver. The strain magnitude and its pattern including time duration are found to be in a good correlation between test and simulation. Key metrics are evaluated to devise an SHM scheme for the load and impact event monitoring using strain gauges and PZT sensors. GF-SMP layers have improved the impact resistance of the aluminium leading edge which is certainly encouraging towards finding a novel solution for the high-velocity impact. 展开更多

Estimation of tungsten production from the upper divertor in EAST during edge localized modes

During edge localized modes(ELMs), the sheath evolution in front of the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST) upper divertor is studied to estimate the sputtered tungsten(W) atoms from the divertor target. A large potential drop across the sheath is formed during ELMs by compared with inter-ELMs, and the maximum of sheath potential drop can exceed one thousand of e V in current EAST operation. Due to the enhancement of the sheath potential drop during ELMs, the W physical sputtering yield from the deuterium(D) ions and the impurity ions on the upper divertor target is found to be significant. It is established that the sputtered W yield during ELMs is at least higher by an order of magnitude than inter-ELMs, and D ions and carbon(C) ions are the main ions governing the W production for the current H-mode with ELMs discharges. With increase in the pedestal electron temperature, the maximum of the D and C ion impact energy during ELMs shows a nearly linear increase, and the D ions have sufficient impact energy to cause the strong W physical sputtering. As a consequence, the D ions may dominate the sputtered W flux from the divertor target when the C concentration is controlled less than one percent for the higher heating power H-mode with ELM discharges in near future. 展开更多

On the windward side of an aircraft,the components with higher probability of impact with birds are the wing-type leading edge structures,such as the wing and tail.A study on the damage sensitivity of a wing-type leading edge structure under bird strikes was presented in this paper.First,a bird strike test was carried out on a wing.The principles of the bird strike test equipment and method were introduced in detail,including the bird strike test system,bird projectile production process and data acquisition system.The dynamic strain measurement results,the high-speed camera videos,and the final deformation and damage morphology observations of the structure were obtained.Based on the coupled Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics(SPH)-Finite Element Method(FEM),the commercial software PAM-CRASH was used to simulate the process of a bird strike with the wing.The good agreement between the finite element simulation results and the experimental results shows that the calculation method and the numerical model presented in this paper were reasonable.On this basis,wing-type leading edge structures can be designed by adding triangular support.The bird strike resistances of an original structure and improved structure were studied by numerical simulation.The calculated results show that the improved wing-type leading edge structure is less damaged than the original structure under bird strike.The improved leading edge structure satisfied the anti-bird strike airworthiness requirements,as the thickness of the triangular support was 1.2 mm,and the weight of the structure was reduced by 0.87 kg compared with the original structure.This indicated that the bird strike resistance of the improved structure is better than that of the original structure,and the improved design of the wing-type leading edge structure presented in this paper is reasonable. 展开更多

An impact assessment of sea ice on ocean optics observations in the marginal ice zone of the Arctic 被引量:1

Diffuse attenuation coefficient (DAC) of sea water is an important parameter in ocean thermodynamics and biology, reflecting the absorption capability of sea water in different layers. In the Arctic Ocean, however, sea ice affects the radiance/irradiance measurements of upper ocean, which results in obvious errors in the DAC calculation. To better understand the impacts of sea ice on the ocean optics observations, a series ofin situ experiments were carried out in the summer of 2009 in the southern Beaufort Sea. Observational results show that the profiles of spectral diffuse attenuation coefficients of seawater near ice cover within upper surface of 50 m were not contaminated by the sea ice with a solar zenith angle of 55&#176;, relative azimuth angle of 110&#176;≤φ≤115&#176; and horizontal distance between the sensors and ice edge of greater than 25 m. Based on geometric optics theory, the impact of ice cover could be avoided by adjusting the relative solar azimuth angle in a particular distance between the instrument and ice. Under an overcast sky, ice cover being 25 m away from sensors did not affect the profiles of spectral DACs within the upper 50 m either. Moreover, reli-able spectral DACs of seawater could be obtained with sensors completely covered by sea ice. 展开更多

The paper describes the simulation of impact loads applied on plate panels with welding-induced residual stresses and deformation (WSD). Numerical simulations using FEM are carried out to study the influence of welding-induced residual stresses and deformation on the impact strength of plate panels. Welding is simulated using a three dimensional thermal mechanical coupled finite element method. The welding stress and deformation are taken as the initial imperfections in the impact strength analysis and their influence on the behavior of plate panels subjected to impact loadings. The impact loadings from the three directions, the lateral direction and two in-plane directions of the plate panels are studied. Results show a certain reduction in the impact strength due to the existence of welding stress and deformation in the plate panels. It is found that the reduction of impact force is strongly influenced by the welding deformation and the impact directions in the plate panels. This reduction is more significant when the impact force is in the lateral direction. 展开更多

Low-velocity impact and in-plane axial compression after impact(CAI)behaviors of carbon-aramid/epoxy hybrid braided composite laminates were investigated experimentally.The following three different types of carbon-aramid/epoxy hybrid braided composite laminates were produced and tested:(a)inter-hybrid laminates,(b)sandwich-like inter-hybrid laminates,and(c)unsymmetric-hybrid laminates.At the same time,carbon/epoxy braided composite laminates were used for comparisons.Impact properties and impact resistance were studied.Internal damages and damage mechanisms of laminates were detected by ultrasonic C-scan and B-scan methods.The results show that the ductility index(DI)values of three kinds of hybrid laminates aforementioned are 37%,4%and 120%higher than those of carbon/epoxy laminates,respectively.The peak load of inter-hybrid laminates is higher than that of sandwich-like inter-hybrid laminates and unsymmetric-hybrid laminates.The average damage area and dent depths of inter-hybrid laminates are 64%and 69%smaller than those of carbon/epoxy laminates.Those results show that carbon-aramid/epoxy hybrid braided composite laminates could significantly improve the impact properties and toughness of non-hybrid braided composite laminates. 展开更多

针对传统定位系统存在的结构复杂、实时性低、需要建立训练集等问题,提出利用光纤Bragg光栅结合直角应变花结构的方法对冲击源进行定位。在平面应变下,建立横向效应补偿因子模型和应变解耦模型,证明了光纤布拉格光栅(Fiber Bragg gratin... 针对传统定位系统存在的结构复杂、实时性低、需要建立训练集等问题,提出利用光纤Bragg光栅结合直角应变花结构的方法对冲击源进行定位。在平面应变下,建立横向效应补偿因子模型和应变解耦模型,证明了光纤布拉格光栅(Fiber Bragg grating,FBG)直角应变花结构用于定位时不受横向效应的影响。同时针对四边简支薄板结构,提出一种判定冲击载荷大小的新方法。通过不同位置两组FBG应变花分别测得的主应变方向,其交点来确定冲击源坐标;通过FBG传感器测得的轴向应变经横向效应补偿,并结合四边简支板扰度曲线和定位坐标,来对冲击载荷大小进行测量。试验表明其定位精度达到2.9 cm以内,定位实时性1 ms左右,冲击载荷大小判定误差在3 N以内。为冲击平台载荷检测提供了一种实用可行的方法。 展开更多
