The efficient transmission of images, which plays a large role inwireless communication systems, poses a significant challenge in the growth of multimedia technology.High-quality images require well-tuned communication standards. The Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access(SC-FDMA)is adopted for broadband wireless communications, because of its low sensitivity to carrier frequency offsets and low Peak-to-Average Power Ratio(PAPR).Data transmission through open-channel networks requires much concentration on security, reliability, and integrity. The data need a space away fromunauthorized access, modification,or deletion. These requirements are to be fulfilled by digital image watermarking and encryption. This paper ismainly concerned with secure image communication over the wireless SC-FDMA systemas an adopted communication standard. It introduces a robust image communication framework over SC-FDMA that comprises digital image watermarking and encryption to improve image security, while maintaining a high-quality reconstruction of images at the receiver side. The proposed framework allows image watermarking based on the Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT)merged with the Singular Value Decomposition(SVD)in the so-called DCT-SVD watermarking. In addition, image encryption is implemented based on chaos and DNA encoding. The encrypted watermarked images are then transmitted through the wireless SC-FDMA system. The linearMinimumMean Square Error(MMSE)equalizer is investigated in this paper to mitigate the effect of channel fading and noise on the transmitted images. Two subcarrier mapping schemes, namely localized and interleaved schemes, are compared in this paper. The study depends on different channelmodels, namely PedestrianAandVehicularA,with a modulation technique namedQuadratureAmplitude Modulation(QAM).Extensive simulation experiments are conducted and introduced in this paper for efficient transmission of encrypted watermarked images. In addition, different variants of SC-FDMA based on the Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT),Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT),and Fast Fourier Transform(FFT)are considered and compared for the image communication task. The simulation results and comparison demonstrate clearly that DWT-SC-FDMAis better suited to the transmission of the digital images in the case of PedestrianAchannels, while the DCT-SC-FDMA is better suited to the transmission of the digital images in the case of Vehicular A channels. 展开更多

To facilitate emerging applications and demands of edge intelligence(EI)-empowered 6G networks,model-driven semantic communications have been proposed to reduce transmission volume by deploying artificial intelligence(AI)models that provide abilities of semantic extraction and recovery.Nevertheless,it is not feasible to preload all AI models on resource-constrained terminals.Thus,in-time model transmission becomes a crucial problem. This paper proposes an intellicise model transmission architecture to guarantee the reliable transmission of models for semantic communication. The mathematical relationship between model size and performance is formulated by employing a recognition error function supported with experimental data.We consider the characteristics of wireless channels and derive the closed-form expression of model transmission outage probability(MTOP)over the Rayleigh channel.Besides,we define the effective model accuracy(EMA)to evaluate the model transmission performance of both communication and intelligence. Then we propose a joint model selection and resource allocation(JMSRA)algorithm to maximize the average EMA of all users.Simulation results demonstrate that the average EMA of the JMSRA algorithm outperforms baseline algorithms by about 22%. 展开更多

The traditional method of mechanical gear driving simulation includes gear pair method and solid to solid contact method. The former has higher solving efficiency but lower results accuracy; the latter usually obtains higher precision of results while the calculation process is complex, also it is not easy to converge. Currently, most of the researches are focused on the description of geometric models and the definition of boundary conditions. However, none of them can solve the problems fundamentally. To improve the simulation efficiency while ensure the results with high accuracy, a mixed model method which uses gear tooth profiles to take the place of the solid gear to simulate gear movement is presented under these circumstances. In the process of modeling, build the solid models of the mechanism in the SolidWorks firstly; Then collect the point coordinates of outline curves of the gear using SolidWorks API and create fit curves in Adams based on the point coordinates; Next, adjust the position of those fitting curves according to the position of the contact area; Finally, define the loading conditions, boundary conditions and simulation parameters. The method provides gear shape information by tooth profile curves; simulates the mesh process through tooth profile curve to curve contact and offer mass as well as inertia data via solid gear models. This simulation process combines the two models to complete the gear driving analysis. In order to verify the validity of the method presented, both theoretical derivation and numerical simulation on a runaway escapement are conducted. The results show that the computational efficiency of the mixed model method is 1.4 times over the traditional method which contains solid to solid contact. Meanwhile, the simulation results are more closely to theoretical calculations. Consequently, mixed model method has a high application value regarding to the study of the dynamics of gear mechanism. 展开更多

Corner contact in gear pair causes vibration and noise, which has attracted many attentions. However, teeth errors and deformation make it difficulty to determine the point situated at corner contact and study the mechanism of teeth impact friction in the current researches.Based on the mechanism of corner contact, the process of corner contact is divided into two stages of impact and scratch, and the calculation model including gear equivalent error-combined deformation is established along the line of action.According to the distributive law, gear equivalent error is synthesized by base pitch error, normal backlash and tooth profile modification on the line of action. The combined tooth compliance of the first point lying in corner contact before the normal path is inversed along the line of action,on basis of the theory of engagement and the curve of tooth synthetic complianceload-history.Combined secondarily the equivalent error with the combined deflection, the position standard of the point situated at corner contact is probed. Then the impact positions and forces, from the beginning to the end during corner contact before the normal path, are calculated accurately.Due to the above results, the lash model during corner contact is founded, and the impact force and frictional coefficient are quantified.A numerical example is performed and the averaged impact friction coefficient based on the presented calculation method is validated. This research obtains the results which could be referenced to understand the complex mechanism of teeth impact friction and quantitative calculation of the friction force and coefficient, and to gear exact design for tribology. 展开更多

When the operation speed of the high-speed train increases and the weight of the carbody becomes lighter, not only does the sensitivity of the wheel/rail contact get higher, but also the vibration frequency range of the vehicle system gets enlarged and more frequencies are transmitted from the wheelset to the carbody. It is important to investigate the vibration characteristics and the dynamic frequency transmission from the wheel/rail interface to the carbody of the high-speed electric multi-uint(EMU).An elastic highspeed vehicle dynamics model is established in which the carbody, bogieframes, and wheelsets are all dealt with as flexible body.A rigid high-speed vehicle dynamics model is set up to compare with the simulation results of the elastic model. In the rigid vehicle model, the carbody, bogieframes and wheelsets are treated as rigid component while the suspension and structure parameters are the same as used in the elastic model. The dynamic characteristic of the elastic high speed vehicle is investigated in time and frequency domains and the di ff erence of the acceleration, frequency distribution and transmission of the two types of models are presented. The results show that the spectrum power density of the vehicle decreases from the wheelset to the carbody and the acceleration transmission ratio is approximately from 1%to 10%for each suspension system. The frequency of the wheelset rotation is evident in the vibration of the flexible model and is transmitted from the wheelset to the bogieframe and to thecarbody. The results of the flexible model are more reasonable than that of the rigid model.A field test data of the high speed train are presented to verify the simulation results. It shows that the simulation results are coincident with the field test data. 展开更多

A numerical model and transmission characteristic analysis of DPSK (differential phase shift keying) pressure signals in mud channels is introduced. With the control logic analysis of the rotary valve mud telemetry, a logical control signal is built from a Gate function sequence according to the binary symbols of transmitted data and a phase-shift function is obtained by integrating the logical control signal. A mathematical model of the DPSK pressure signal is built based on principles of communications by modulating carrier phase with the phase-shift function and a numerical simulation of the pressure wave is implemented with the mathematical model by MATLAB programming. Considering drillpipe pressure and drilling fluid temperature profile along drillpipes, the drillpipe of a vertical well is divided into a number of sections. With water-based drilling fluids, the impacts of travel distance, carrier frequency, drillpipe size, and drilling fluids on the signal transmission were studied by signal transmission characteristic analysis for all the sections. Numerical calculation results indicate that the influences of the viscosity of drilling fluids and volume fraction of gas in drilling fluids on the DPSK signal transmission are more notable than the others and the signal will distort in waveform with differential attenuations of the signal frequent component. 展开更多

The outbreak and rapid spread of COVID-19 has become a public health emergency of international concern.A number of studies have used modeling techniques and developed dynamic models to estimate the epidemiological parameters, explore and project the trends of the COVID-19,and assess the effects of intervention or control measures. We identified 63 studies and summarized the three aspects of these studies:epidemiological parameters estimation, trend prediction, and control measure evaluation.Despite the discrepancy between the predictions and the actuals, the dynamic model has made great contributions in the above three aspects. The most important role of dynamic models is exploring possibilities rather than making strong predictions about longer-term disease dynamics. 展开更多

Anchovy (Engraulis aponicus), a small pelagic fish and food of other economic fishes, is a key species in the Yellow Sea ecosystem. Understanding the mechanisms of its recruitment and biomass variation is important for the prediction and management of fishery resources. Coupled with a hydrodynamic model (POM) and a lower trophic level ecosystem model (NEMURO), an individual-based model of anchovy is developed to study the influence of physical environment on anchovy's biomass variation, Seasonal variations of circulation, water temperature and mix-layer depth from POM are used as external forcing for NEMURO and the anchovy model. Biomasses of large zooplankton and predatory zooplankton which anchovy feeds on are output from NEMURO and are controlled by the consumption of anchovy on them. Survival fitness theory related to temperature and food is used to determine the swimming action of anchovy in the model. The simulation results agree well with observations and elucidate the influence of temperature in over-wintering migration and food in feeding migration. 展开更多

This paper presents a new finite element model updating method for estimating structural parameters and detecting structural damage location and severity based on the structural responses(output-only data). The method uses the sensitivity relation of transmissibility data through a least-squares algorithm and appropriate normalization of the extracted equations. The proposed transmissibility-based sensitivity equation produces a more significant number of equations than the sensitivity equations based on the frequency response function(FRF),which can estimate the structural parameters with higher accuracy. The abilities of the proposed method are assessed by using numerical data of a two-story two-bay frame model and a plate structure model. In evaluating different damage cases, the number, location, and stiffness reduction of the damaged elements and the severity of the simulated damage have been accurately identified. The reliability and stability of the presented method against measurement and modeling errors are examined using error-contaminated data. The parameter estimation results prove the method’s capabilities as an accurate model updating algorithm. 展开更多

Video transmission requires considerable bandwidth, and current widely employed schemes prove inadequate when confronted with scenes featuring prominently.Motivated by the strides in talkinghead generative technology, the paper introduces a semantic transmission system tailored for talking-head videos. The system captures semantic information from talking-head video and faithfully reconstructs source video at the receiver, only one-shot reference frame and compact semantic features are required for the entire transmission.Specifically,we analyze video semantics in the pixel domain frame-by-frame and jointly process multi-frame semantic information to seamlessly incorporate spatial and temporal information.Variational modeling is utilized to evaluate the diversity of importance among group semantics, thereby guiding bandwidth resource allocation for semantics to enhance system efficiency. The whole endto-end system is modeled as an optimization problem and equivalent to acquiring optimal rate-distortion performance. We evaluate our system on both reference frame and video transmission, experimental results demonstrate that our system can improve the efficiency and robustness of communications.Compared to the classical approaches, our system can save over 90%of bandwidth when user perception is close. 展开更多

The objective of this work is to develop a novel feature for traffic flow models, when traffic queues on two-way arterials periodically extend until then they block an upstream signal in oversaturated conditions. The new model, proposed as conditional cell transmission model (CCTM) has been developed with two improvements. First, cell transmission model (CTM) is expanded for two-way arterials by taking account of all diverging and merging activities at intersections. Second, a conditional cell is added to simulate periodic spillback and blockages at an intersection. The results of experiments for a multilane, two-way, three-signal sample network demonstrate that CCTM can accommodate various traffic demands and accurate representation of blockages at intersections. The delay of left turns is underestimated by 40 % in moderate conditions and by 58% in oversamrated condition when using the CTM rather than CCTM. Finally, the consistency between HCS 2000 and CCTM shows that CCTM is a reliable methodology of modeling traffic flow in oversaturated condition. 展开更多

The chloride ion transmission model considering diffusion and convection was established respectively for different zones in concrete by analyzing chloride ion transmission mechanism under the dryingwetting cycles. The finite difference method was adopted to solve the model. The equation of chloride ion transmission model in the convection and diffusion zone of concrete was discreted by the group explicit scheme with right single point (GER method) and the equation in diffusion zone was discreted by FTCS difference scheme. According to relative humidity characteristics in concrete under drying-wetting cycles, the seepage velocity equation was formulated based on Kelvin Equation and Darcy's Law. The time-variant equations of chloride ion concentration of concrete surface and the boundary surface of the convection and diffusion zone were established. Based on the software MATLAB the numerical calculation was carried out by using the model and basic material parameters from the experiments. The calculation of chloride ion concentration distribution in concrete is in good agreement with the drying-wetting cycles experiments. It can be shown that the chloride ion transmission model and the seepage velocity equation are reasonable and practical. Studies have shown that the chloride ion transmission in concrete considering convection and diffusion under the drying-wetting cycles is the better correlation with the actual situation than that only considering the diffusion. 展开更多

A novel conditional cell transmission model (CCTM) is a potential simulation tool because it accommodates all traffic conditions from light condition to oversaturated condition. To test the performance of the CCTM, a series of experiments for sensitivity analysis were designed and performed for a multilane, two-way, three-signal sample network. Experiment 1 shows that the model is performed in a logical and expected manner with variations in traffic demand with time and direction. Experiment 2 shows when the possibility of the occurrence of a useful gap increases to 60% and 100%, the delays in left rams decrease by 5% and 15%, respectively. In Experiment 3, comparing the possibility of a conditional cell of 0 with 100%, delay of left turn and delay of the entire network were underestimated by 58% and 11%, respectively. Hence, sensitivity analysis demonstrates that by reflecting local drivers' behaviors properly, the CCTM provides an accurate representation of traffic flow in simulating oversaturated traffic conditions. 展开更多

A large number of high-voltage power transmission towers have recently been constructed in mining areas prone to subsidence. In order to ensure the safety of the transmission towers and the safe operation of transmission systems, it is imperative to carry out research on the anti-deformation performance of transmission towers. In our study, we performed experiments on the anti-deformation performance of a transmission tower in a subsidence area on a scale model with a geometric scale ratio of 1:5 and analyzed the failure mechanism of the tower members. The results show that, when the axial distance between two supports changes, destabilization failure most likely occurs in the members of the bottom transverse layer because some parts of the main diagonal member bars yield under the action of compression. The failure mechanism of the tower members basically coincides with the lever principle. 展开更多

The prompt extinction of the secondary arc is critical to the single-phase reclosing of AC transmission lines, including half-wavelength power transmission lines. In this paper, a low- voltage physical experimental platform was established and the motion process of the secondary arc was recorded by a high-speed camera. It was found that the arcing time of the secondary arc rendered a close relationship with its arc length. Through the input and output power energy analysis of the secondary arc, a new critical length criterion for the arcing time was proposed. The arc chain model was then adopted to calculate the arcing time with both the traditional and the proposed critical length criteria, and the simulation results were compared with the experimental data. The study showed that the arcing time calculated from the new critical length criterion gave more accurate results, which can provide a reliable criterion in term of arcing time for modeling and simulation of the secondary arc related with power transmission lines. 展开更多

Ventilation is an effective solution for improving indoor air quality and reducing airborne transmission.Buildings need sufficient ventilation to maintain a low infection risk but also need to avoid an excessive ventilation rate, which may lead to high energy consumption. The Wells-Riley(WR)model is widely used to predict infection risk and control the ventilation rate. However, few studies compared the non-steady-state(NSS)and steady-state(SS)WR models that are used for ventilation control. To fill in this research gap, this study investigates the effects of the mechanical ventilation control strategies based on NSS/SS WR models on the required ventilation rates to prevent airborne transmission and related energy consumption. The modified NSS/SS WR models were proposed by considering many parameters that were ignored before, such as the initial quantum concentration.Based on the NSS/SS WR models, two new ventilation control strategies were proposed.A real building in Canada is used as the case study. The results indicate that under a high initial quantum concentration(e.g.,0.3 q/m^(3))and no protective measures,SS WR control underestimates the required ventilation rate. The ventilation energy consumption of NSS control is up to 2.5 times as high as that of the SS control. 展开更多

For the purpose of checking the validity of the modeling method, a prototype workpiece of the valve is manufactured for comparison test, and its simulation result follows the experimental result quite well. An associated performance index is founded considering the response time, overshoot and saving energy, and five structural parameters are selected to adjust for deriving the optimal associated performance index. Wave transmission and overtopping around nearshore breakwaters can have significant influence on the transmitted wave parameters, which affects wave conditions and sediment transportation and becomes the focus of design in engineering. The objective of this paper is to present a simplified model to estimate these important wave parameters. This paper describes the incorporation of wave transmission and overtopping module into a wave model for multi-directional random wave transformation based on energy balance equation with the consideration of wave shoaling, refraction, diffraction, reflection and breaking.Wen's frequency spectrum and non-linear dispersion relation are also included in this model. The influence of wave parameters of transmitted waves through a smooth submerged breakwater has been considered in this model with an improved description of the transmitted wave spectrum of van der Meer et al.(2000) by Carevic et al.(2013).This improved wave model has been validated through available laboratory experiments. Then the verified model is applied to investigate the effect of wave transmission and overtopping on wave heights behind low-crested breakwaters in a project for nearshore area.Numerical calculations are carried out with and without consideration of the wave transmission and overtopping, and comparison of them indicates that there is a considerable difference in wave height and thus it is important to include wave transmission and overtopping in modelling nearshore wave field with the presence of low-crested breakwaters. Therefore, this model can provide a general estimate of the desired wave field parameters, which is adequate for engineers at the preliminary design stage of low-crested breakwaters. 展开更多
