This paper improves the discrete vortex method for modeling Kelvin-Helmholtz instability and Rayleigh-Tay- lor instability by proper choice of velocity weighted average coefficients, redistribution of markers and successive adding of computational points with the increase of interfacial deformation and gives the numerical results of Rayleigh-Taylor instability. The numerical results show that the first two techniques greatly enhance the ability of the discrete vortex method for modeling large interracial deformations and the last technique greatly reduces the computational amounts of the numerical modeling at large deformation stage. The numerical modeling of Rayleigh- Taylor instability not only reproduces some phenomena such as the roll up at the end part of the spike observed in experiments but also finds some new phenomena such as the splashes at the roll up parts which needs to be tested by experiment. 展开更多

In this paper,a high-order distortion model is proposed for analyzing the rotating stall inception process induced by inlet distortion in axial compressors.A distortion-generating screen in the compressor inlet is considered.By assuming a quadratic function for the local flow total pressure-drop,the existing Mansoux model is extended to include the effects of static inlet distortion, and a new high-order distortion model is derived. To illustrate the effectiveness of the distortion model, numerical simulations are performed on an eighteenth-order model. It is demonstrated that long length-scale disturbances emerge out of the distorted background flow, and further induce the onset of rotating stall in advance. In addition, the circumferential non-uniform distribution and time evolution of the axial flow are also shown to be consistent with the existing features. It is thus shown that the high-order distortion model is capable of describing the transient behavior of stall inception and will contribute further to stall detection under inlet distortion. 展开更多

In the Phase Ⅱ Project at the Hefei Light Source, a fourth-harmonic "Landau" cavity will be operated in order to suppress the coupled-bunch instabilities and increase the beam lifetime of the Hefei storage ring. Instabilities limit the utility of the higher-harmonic cavity when the storage ring is operated with a small momentum compaction. Analytical modeling and simulations show that the instabilities result from Robinson mode coupling. In the analytic modeling, we operate an algorithm to consider the Robinson instabilities. To study the evolution of unstable behavior, simulations have been performed in which macroparticles are distributed among the buckets. Both the analytic modeling and simulations agree for passive operation of the harmonic cavity. 展开更多
