Integration of Climate Change into the Senior Secondary School Agricultural Science Curriculum in Nigeria

The study was carried out to identify content areas of climate change for integration into the senior secondary school agricultural science curriculum in countries such as Nigeria. Two research questions were developed and answered by the study while two null hypotheses were formulated and tested. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study was 441 while the sample was 249. A 34-item structured questionnaire was developed for data collection. The questionnaire items were face-validated by five experts while Cronbach alpha method was used to determine the internal consistency of the items. The copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents with the help of two research assistants. Weighted mean was used to answer the research questions while t-test statistic was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance and 240 degrees of freedom. The findings of the study revealed that four clusters with 23 items were required for integration in the curriculum while 11 materials were identified to help teach the content areas. It was also found that there was no significant (p > 0.05) difference in the mean responses of Lecturers and extension agents on each item in the content areas of climate change and materials for teaching them. The study recommended among others that the clusters and 23 items with the materials identified by the study should be integrated into the agricultural science curriculum for teaching in secondary schools, especially in Nigeria. 展开更多

The education of prospective teachers should be based on ecological approach, which ensures the ecological perspective and an opportunity for students to develop their readiness to integrate into the school environment. The main aim of the author's research is to substantiate mentoring as an interaction system for the facilitation of the prospective teachers' readiness to integrate into the school environment. The author of this paper offers the results of her theoretical research: substantiation of mentoring's importance in teachers' education, substantiation of mentors' roles and functions, and substantiation of ecological approach in teachers' education. Ecological approach in teachers' education facilitates the formation of friendly attitude toward a school as an educational environment. Mentoring provides the prospective teachers' readiness to the professional activity and ability to successful integration in various types of school environment, considering their specificity. Satisfying Toilet Needs in Pre-School —Experiences of 5 - 6 Years Old

Background: It is known that, for reasons of hygiene and/or anxiety, some first year primary school children actively choose to avoid going to the toilet whilst at school, while at the same time many young children’s primary care visits are due to urinary tract and bowel problems. By this age most children can recognise the bodily signals indicating the need for a toilet visit, and can independently perform the associated routines. Aim of this study was to describe the experience of healthy 5 to 6 years old when needing and using toilets whilst at pre-school. Methods: A qualitative descriptive method was used. Seventeen children aged 5 to 6 years were interviewed. Results: Nearly all used the toilet when the need arose, but there were times during the day when their freedom to use the toilet was restricted. Most children experienced periods of waiting outside the toilet and a long wait could result in a decision to not use it. On those occasions when help was needed, it was usually necessary to shout once or more in order to attract the teacher’s attention. Some children found the toilets clean and fresh while others found them dirty and smelly. Privacy during toilet visits was desirable among the children but queue outside the toilet was a cause of worry. Conclusion: The children were mostly able to use the toilet whilst at preschool, despite the challenges to their senses and integrity and occasionally issues with the teacher’s rules. The need for privacy often had to yield to the teacher’s need to control the children or even because toilet doors and/or locks were not adapted to the children’s requirements. 展开更多

目的 探讨基于校-院合作模式的线上线下融合教学对教学质量的效果提升。方法 按时间先后将2021-2022学年我院临床聘任带教老师60人及实习护生230人作为对照组,带教老师进行2周常规教学培训,实施传统教学模式;将2022-2023学年我院临床聘... 目的 探讨基于校-院合作模式的线上线下融合教学对教学质量的效果提升。方法 按时间先后将2021-2022学年我院临床聘任带教老师60人及实习护生230人作为对照组,带教老师进行2周常规教学培训,实施传统教学模式;将2022-2023学年我院临床聘任带教老师62人及实习护生248人作为观察组,带教老师进行2周常规教学培训,实施基于校-院合作模式的线上线下融合教学。比较2组考核成绩、有效教学行为、教学效果评价及满意度。结果 观察组实习护生考核成绩优于对照组(P<0.05);观察组有效教学行为各项评分均高于对照组(P<0.05);观察组实习护生对教学效果各项评价均高于对照组(P<0.05);观察组实习护生对管理模式、教学内容、教学效果及操作技能的满意度评分均高于对照组(P<0.05)。结论 基于校-院合作模式的线上线下融合教学可提高教学质量,提升护生考核成绩及实习护生满意度,值得推广。 展开更多

Modern buildings and blocks in open port city, which are an essential part of the urban context, possess unspoken values of material properties and cultural resources for the urban future. According to the investigation of Taiyanggou Block and Lvshun Industrial School Site in Lvshun (China), this paper aims to discuss the understanding and conservation of modern heritage. Firstly, it interprets the opening of modern Lvshun and the formation of Taiyanggou Block to provide the fundamental knowledge. After a brief introduction of Lvshun Industrial School Site, the paper analyzes the problems in conservation practice and proposes countermeasures on heritage management and reuse strategy. Tornadoes can destroy or severely damage physical infrastructure including buildings in a community.This can result in direct losses but also indirect losses such as the closure of key social institutions reverberating further through the community(e.g.,schools).Despite significant losses in past events,building codes and standards have not previously included tornado hazards because of the relatively low probability of a direct strike.The recent release of the ASCE 7-22 standard considers tornadoes for Risk Category 3 and 4 buildings,i.e.ranging from schools to critical facilities.This study proposes a series of design combinations of a reinforced masonry school building with different performance targets intended to enable schools to reopen sooner.Tornado fragilities were developed for a school building having improved designs using tornado loads determined based on the new tornado chapter in ASCE 7-22,and then integrated into a community level model with school attendance zones to examine the effect.The ultimate goal in this study is to investigate the effect of improving school building designs would have on maintaining school continuity(and more rapid return)for school children. 展开更多

Adoption Levels of Certain Tomato Cultivation Practices by Farmer Field Schools in Sudan

This study assessed the effect of Integrated Pest Management/Farmer Field Schools(IPM/FFS)extension approach on adoption of some tomato(Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.)cultivation practices in Gezira Scheme,Sudan.A stratified random sampling technique was used to collect data from 100 tomato growers(50 FFS participants and 50 non-FFS participants),through personal interviews using a structured questionnaire.The data were statistically analyzed and interpreted using frequency distribution,percentage and Chi-square test.The study found that adoption rates for the use of improved tomato seed variety,sowing date and method,urea application,were higher among the FFS participants compared to the non-FFS participants(20%,90%and 50%)compared to 12%,76%and 36%,respectively.The result showed lower adoption rate(50%)in FFS participants for intercropping with companion plant compared to non-FFS participants(64%).Chi-square test showed that there was significant difference between FFS participants and non-FFS participant farmers in adoption of recommended sowing date and method,and intercropping at 95%confidence level,0.05 margin of error.There was no significant difference in adoption of urea application and use of recommended seed variety.This demonstrated that adoption of these two cultivation practices for tomato in the study significantly depended on FFS approach.To improve adoption rates of IPM innovations,the study recommends that FFS in the Gezira Scheme should be revitalized and later introduced in the other states in the country,with extensive and effective system of FFS trainings and follow-up. 展开更多

Objective The psychologic health level of college and secondaryschool students and the relevant factors were investigated to scientific basis and guidance for school mental health work.Methods Standard 1251 cases were drawn from 1‰ of students in colleges and middle schools of Shaanxi province.Taking 14 psychic health level indexes in SCL 90 as dependent variable and 109 indexes of psychic health back ground as in dependent variable, multi factor analyses have been made.Results 22.6% of students had relatively serious psychological problems.The score of SCL 90 in females was a little bit higher than that in males.The scores of students at both universities and senior middle schools were higher than that in junior middle schools students.The score of SCL 90 of students who came from the countryside was higher than that of city students.The score of the whole students was higher than that of the normal.The students with psychic problems showed obsession,interpersonal sensitivity,depression,anxiety,paranoia and hostility.Factor analysis showed that influencing factors included history of positive individual risking behavior,physical conditions,grade,address,family influences,menses and sexual prombles,bad relation with others,poor self assessment.Conclusion The psychologic health level of the students investigated is lower than that of the whole society.The factors,which hamper psychic health of students, are biological,psychological and social in nature. 展开更多

目的:分析学校-家庭综合预防模式对中小学生近视的干预效果。方法:选取2019年1月—2023年12月上饶市铅山县在校近视的中小学生20000名作为研究对象,根据随机数字表法分成试验组和对照组,各10000名。对照组采用常规干预,试验组在对照组... 目的:分析学校-家庭综合预防模式对中小学生近视的干预效果。方法:选取2019年1月—2023年12月上饶市铅山县在校近视的中小学生20000名作为研究对象,根据随机数字表法分成试验组和对照组,各10000名。对照组采用常规干预,试验组在对照组基础上应用学校—家庭综合预防模式。比较两组屈光度、眼压、前房深度、眼轴长度、角膜曲率、角膜散光及疾病知识掌握度。结果:两组干预前后屈光度比较,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。干预后,两组眼压水平降低,且试验组低于对照组(P<0.05)。干预后,两组前房深度下降,眼轴长度增长,且试验组均优于对照组(P<0.05)。干预后,两组疾病知识掌握评分升高,且试验组高于对照组(P<0.05)。结论:学校-家庭综合预防模式在中小学生近视干预中的效果较好,可有效改善学生视力水平,提高疾病知识掌握度。 展开更多
