The result...The effectiveness of eliminating the noises in short-period data of geomagnetic intensity recorded in a little seismo-geomagnetic array by using numerical multichannel predictive filtering has been studied. The result shows that this technique is effective to fit external magnetic disturbance to inner electromagnetic induced difference field and reduce the noise level of difference data successfully. The filter quality factor Q of two examples in this work are 0. 86 and 0.68 respectively. The spectral analysis shows that during geomagnetic-calm days the fourfold-frequency harmonics of S q in difference data are main components. The length of the optimum filter depends on not only the frequency of predicable energy in difference data but also maybe the phase difference between input and expected output data. It is difficult to obtain the filter fitting both the data during magnetic-disturbed days and calm days. The result shows that the conductivity in Yanqing-Huailai basin west to Beijing may be much non-uniform.展开更多

TUNEL staining showed significantly increased neural cell apoptosis in the hippocampal CA1 region of rats after medium- and high-intensity acute exhaustive exercise, particulady the medium-intensity acute exhaustive exercise, when compared with the control. Immunohistochemistry showed significantly increased expression of the antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2 and the proapoptotJc proteJn Bax in the hippocampal CA1 region of rats after medium- and high-intensity acute exhaustive exercise. Additionally, the ratio of Bax to Bcl-2 increased in both exercise groups. In particular, the medium-intensity acute exhaustive exercise group had significantly higher Bax and Bcl-2 protein expression and a higher Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. These findings indicate that acute exhaustive exercise of different intensities can induce neural cell apoptosis in the hippocampus, and that medium-intensity acute exhaustive exercise results in greater damage when compared with high-intensity exercise.展开更多

Two pairs of balanced detection systems are employed to measure the probe and the conjugate beams, respectively. It is convenient to get the quantum shot noise limit, the squeezed and the amplified noise power spectra. We also investigate the influence of the input extra quadrature amplitude noise of the probe beam. The influence of the extra noise can be minimized and the squeezing can be optimized under the proper parameter condition. We measure the -3.7-dB intensity difference squeezing when the probe beam has a 3-dB extra quadrature amplitude noise. This result is slightly smaller than -4.1 dB when the ideal coherent light (no extra noise) for the probe beam is used.展开更多

This paper addresses an automatic object detection algorithm based on spatio-temporal compensation for video surveillance. Temporal difference of the pairs of two frames with a k-frame distance is utilized to obtain coarse object masks. Usually, object regions in these coarse masks have discontinuous boundaries and some holes. Region growing with the distance constraint is proposed to compensate these coarse object regions in spatial domain, followed by filling holes. The added distance constraint can prevent object regions from growing infinitely. The proposed filling holes method is simple and effective. To solve the temporarily stopping problem of moving objects, temporal compensation is proposed to compensate the object mask by utilizing temporal coherence of moving objects in temporal domain. The proposed detection algorithm can extract moving objects as completely as possible. Experimental results have successfully demonstrated the validity of the proposed algorithm.展开更多
The spectral characteristics of precipitation intensity during warm and cold years are compared in six regions of China based on precipitation data at 404 meteorological stations during 1961-2006.In all of the studied...The spectral characteristics of precipitation intensity during warm and cold years are compared in six regions of China based on precipitation data at 404 meteorological stations during 1961-2006.In all of the studied regions except North China,with the increasing temperature,a decreasing trend is observed in light precipitation and the number of light precipitation days,while an increasing trend appears in heavy precipitation and the heavy precipitation days.Although changes in precipitation days in North China are similar to the changes in the other five regions,heavy precipitation decreases with the increasing temperature in this region.These results indicate that in most parts of China,the amount of precipitation and number of precipitation days have shifted towards heavy precipitation under the background of a warming climate;however,the responses of precipitation distributions to global warming differ from place to place.The number of light precipitation days decreases in the warm and humid regions of China(Jianghuai region,South China,and Southwest China),while the increasing amplitude of heavy precipitation and the number of heavy precipitation days are greater in the warm and humid regions of China than that in the northern regions(North China,Northwest China,and Northeast China).In addition,changes are much more obvious in winter than in summer,indicating that the changes in the precipitation frequency are more affected by the increasing temperature during winter than summer.The shape and scale parameters of the Γ distribution of daily precipitation at most stations of China have increased under the background of global warming.The scale parameter changes are smaller than the shape parameter changes in all regions except Northwest China.This suggests that daily precipitation shifts toward heavy precipitation in China under the warming climate.The number of extreme precipitation events increases slightly,indicating that changes in the Γ distribution fitting parameters reflect changes in the regional precipitation distribution structure.展开更多

Am. 102 3, 1997, 3628--3646.]. The intensity just noticeable differences for tone bursts with durations of 1 ms, 10 ms, 100 ms, 1000 ms, 5000 ms and 10000 ms were measured at different intensity levels of 20 dB, 30 dB, 40 dB, 50 dB, 60 dB, 70 dB, 80 dB, 90 dB, 100 dB. The data show that variance of Weber fraction (△I/I) with intensity is distinct from Riesz's result and SPIN theory, and that the relations between Weber fraction and intensity for signals of different durations are similar in spite of Weber fraction decreasing to asymptote with signal duration increasing. This means the difference of pulse measurement of intensity JND from Riesz's result and SPIN theory does not arise from the limited signal duration of pulse method and provides new cue for hearing research.展开更多
The Dst index,designed as a proxy of ring current intensity,is known to be also affected by other magnetospheric current systems,e.g.magnetopause current.The pressure-corrected Dst index is obtained by removing the ef...The Dst index,designed as a proxy of ring current intensity,is known to be also affected by other magnetospheric current systems,e.g.magnetopause current.The pressure-corrected Dst index is obtained by removing the effects of the solar wind dynamic pressure and the quiet time ring current.However,all previous studies treated the correction coefficient as an averaged parameter for storms of different intensity.In this paper,based on the Burton's equations and employing two independent methods,we will show a positive correlation between pressure-correction coefficient b and the intensity of the storms.We divided our storm database(872 storms in total) into three categories according to the intensity of storms.In order to improve the accuracy of calculating,we also used the higher-resolution SYM-H index data instead of Dst index to compute the corrected Dst index during different storms.Furthermore,we are able to provide corrected magnetic storm index with high-time resolution(-1 min).展开更多
