Intercultural Communication and Chinese Tourism Texts Translation

Intercultural communication language plays a crucial role in our global tourism.When we are doing translation we are doing intercultural communication in a sense,so it is necessary for translators to have intercultural communication awareness and be sensitive to the cultural elements in translation.Taking the perspective of intercultural communication,this paper analyses the cultural elements in Chinese tourism material translation in terms of culturally-loaded words and terms,and presents certain translation techniques a translator can use to deal with culturally-loaded words in their translation.

From Text to Field:Study on the Intercultural Communication of Music in Collection of Chinese Works and Translations by Matteo Ricci from the Perspective of Maritime Silk Road

In this paper,with Collection of Chinese Works by Matteo Ricci written by Zhu Weizheng and A summary Interpretation of Chinese literature of Matteo Ricci in Ming and Qing Dynasties written by Tang Kaijian as major research texts and historical basis,as well as intercultural communication as the major research method,the aesthetic adaptation of native music of traditional Chinese music,etiquette,sacrifice and religious customs under the description of Matteo Ricci is discussed and interpreted from the perspective of the spread of musical culture of the Maritime Silk Road,four stages of field investigation are planned,and related musical activities and local musical phenomena appearing in his literature have an on-site visit.In this way,the vital position and historical significance of Matteo Ricci’s cultural missionary activities in the music communication on the Maritime Silk Road are obtained.

News Translation and Intercultural Communication

With the increasingly rapid social development,collusion and integration of different culture around the world,legal translation also becomes an exceedingly important tool in exchanges of laws.Legal translation,in essence,is a non-negligible aspect of intercultural communication,because legal translation is not only a transfer process from one language to another language,but also a study process of various legal cultures.In traditional researches about legal translation,most scholars only have a preference to pay more attention to the faithfulness and exactness of target language,but ignore the significance of cultural elements that are key limitations to the readiness of legal translation.Researchers can take advantage of culture transfer,which is a strategy to avoid misunderstandings in process of legal translation for the intention of improving the quality of legal texts.In this paper,legal translation refers to translation between English legal texts and Chinese legal texts.

A Cultural Study of English Idioms Translation

Language is the carrier of culture, bearing the national cultural information. As the most culturally-loaded element in any language's vocabulary, idioms have aroused more and more attention. This paper starts with the analysis of the relationship between culture, idioms and translation, and makes an investigation of cultural factors affecting idiom translation such as subjective and objective factors. Based on these analyses, the paper will propose the cultural translation principles and strategies focusing on cultural connotations of idioms in order to transfer the English idioms translation from the language level to the cultural level.

Language Teaching and Intercultural Communication:Teaching Korean Grammar to Non-native Speakers

Grounded upon the interactive relationship between intercultural communication(IC)and foreign language education and the recent gradual salience of communicative language teaching(CLT)in foreign language grammar learning sectors,the study reported in this paper deals with the issue of teaching Korean grammar to non-native speakers in terms of teaching Korean as a foreign language(TKFL).This paper attempts to examine and analyze several Korean language textbooks prepared for foreign learners of Korean,which is used overseas,especially in Hong Kong(HK).It is also attempted to evaluate the textbooks in terms of CLT and communicative competence.By doing so,we can further understand the methods of Korean grammar instruction provided to foreigners as a second language or a foreign language.

Principles and Translation Strategies to English Numerical Idioms

The Translation Strategies of English Numerical Idioms Based on Skopos Theory

On the Translation of English-Chinese Idioms

The idiomatic phrase is equal to the phrase that people use frequently language in the world that had long and splendid history all contains large quantities of idiom. They form regular phrases and short sentences through long use and refinement in the development of language. The idiomatic phrases contain varied cultural information, embody a lot of cultural feature, and cultural background. The idiomatic phrases display distinct image and figure of speech, and they also have bright national characteristic and regional (local) color. The paper includes four parts. The first chapter is to introduce the generalization of idioms and translation, and the second part is to list four different definitions of idiom according to some translational experts, next step leads in classification and sources of idiom. The third chapter introduces some common strategies of idiomatic translation such as literal translation, literal translation plus notes, free translation, and the combination of literal and free translation. On the Translation of Ceramic Art Works From the Perspective of Cross-Cultural Communication

In order to combine the aesthetic characteristics of ceramic art works with translation principles and fully convey the cultural and artistic connotations of the original works,the research was conducted and can be divided into three stages:theoretical research on translation of cross-cultural communication,appreciation of ceramic works of art,and translation practice of ceramic works of art.Through the research,we found that some methods like transliteration can be used to better promote the globalization of Chinese ceramic art and deepen cultural exchanges with other countries.

On Translatability and Untranslatability in Translation of Chinese Idioms

Translation is a field full of paradoxes. The question of whether or not languages are translatable has been argued for many years in the history of translation. There are many opposite idea on this question, for example, to what degree languages are translatable, and all this problems relating to translatability and untranslatability have always been difficult questions for further studying. Also, idioms are major components of a language. They are experience and lessons that people learned from years of hard work and life experiences, and they reflect the wisdom of human beings. In a word, when it comes to the translatability and untranslatability of Chinese idioms, there usually exist more obvious problems. Because Chinese idioms have certain ethnic characteristics and distinguishable cultural meanings, and more importantly they are deeply rooted in national culture and society. This essay first introduced the relationship between Untranslatability and Translatability, and then discussed the features of Chinese idioms, and later this essay mainly discussed the translatability and untranslatability in a translating process from a perspective of the translation of Chinese idioms. Finally, it gives some practical ways to reduce the untranslatability of Chinese idioms.

On the Characteristics and Translation of English Idioms

Idiom is fixed phrases or sentences and extracted from the language which have been used for a long time. It includes proverbs, slangs, dialects, etc. It usually shares the characters of a tight, strict structure, simple form, brilliant meaning, understandable image, vivid expression and so on. As the essence and treasure of ethnic language idiom shows the life, social custom, religious belief, value, history and culture of a nation as well as the way of thinking with strong ethnic and cultural characteristics.This paper has a tentative illustration on English idioms from the viewpoint of definition, characteristics and strategies of translation.

Ethical Problems in MTI Students’Escort Interpreting from the Perspective of Chesterman’s Models on Translation Ethics

The professionalization of translation has been discussed by many scholars in recent years,which has inspired the intense discussion of translation ethics.Drawing upon Chesterman’s models on translation ethics,this paper intends to examine the ethical problems in MTI students’escort interpreting for Vanuatu Sport Technical Assistance Project for the Pacific Mini Games in 2017 and China-ASEAN International Capacity Cooperation Forum in 2016.The data was collected by the methods of participant observation and informal interviews in the process of the two interpreting projects,especially the six-month assistance project.The ethical problems in the escort interpreting and the reasons that caused the problems were analyzed through case study.It is found that the major ethical problems that occurred are related to the ethics of communication,the norm-based ethics,and the ethics of commitment.These ethical problems were mainly related to the student escort interpreters’language proficiency,professional qualities,and intercultural/interpersonal communication competence.Some solutions are suggested based on Chesterman’s models on translation ethics.It is hoped that the research findings can provide some references to the implementation of the similar interpreting programs in the future,and enhance interpreting teaching and training programs.

On Errors in Chinese-English Translation of Public Signs

With more attentions being paid to the research of the Chinese-English translation of public signs,errors and mistakes can be frequently observed in some places and occasions due to different cultural backgrounds as well as diversified function of public signs.For that reason,the author venture to analyses the problems existing in Chinese-English translation of public signs on the level of linguistic and culture such as spelling errors,harsh tones and so on.Meanwhile the author offer some strategies and principles of translation based on the communicative translation method and as well as the quality of translators perspectives,including the methods of functional priority,of utilization of Pin Yin and so on,hoping to optimize the quality of the public signs translation so as to publicize China and promote the image of China and arose the attention and awareness of the translators.

Cultivation of Cross-cultural Awareness in College English Translation Teaching

With my country's entry into the WTO,transnational communication has become more frequent.However,the lack of cross-cultural awareness in cross-cultural communication will cause communication barriers.Therefore,in the translation teaching of college English,attention should be paid to cultivating students'cross-cultural awareness and enhancing their ability in cross-cultural communication.Based on this,this article explains the significance of cross-cultural awareness to college English translation teaching,and analyzes the problems existing in the process of college English translation teaching,and finally proposes ways and strategies to cultivate cross-cultural awareness in college English translation teaching.Provide some reference value for workers in this field.

Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theories play a guiding role in translation practice.Translating long and difficult English sentences into Chinese has been a focus of study among translators.The paper explores how to translate long and difficult journalistic English sentences into Chinese from the perspective of semantic translation and communicative translation theories,advancing four effective translating strategies for handling long and difficult journalistic English sentences:sequential translation,splitting translation,reversing translation,and recasting translation,so as to improve the readability and faithfulness of the Chinese version.
