Interface fracture toughness and fracture mechanisms of plasma-/sprayed thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) were investigated by interfacial indentation test ( HT) in combination with acoustic emission ( AE ) measurement. Critical load and AE energy were employed to calculate interface fracture toughness. The critical point at which crack appears at the interface was determined by the HT. AE signals produced during total indentation test not only are used to investigate the interface cracking behavior by Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and wavelet transforms but also supply the mechanical information. The result shows that the AE signals associated with coating plastic deformation during indentation are of a more continuous type with a lower characteristic frequency content (30 -60 kHz) , whereas the instantaneous relaxation associated with interface crack initiation produces burst type AE signals with a characteristic frequency in the range 70 - 200 kHz. The AE signals energy is concentrated on different scales for the coating plastic deformation, interface crack initiation and interface crack propagation. Interface fracture toughness calculated by AE energy was 1. 19 MPam1/2 close to 1.58 MPam1/2 calculated by critical load. It indicates that the acoustic emission energy is suitable to reflect the interface fracture toughness. 展开更多

The complex stress intensity factor K governing the stress field of an interface crack tip may be split into two parts, i.e.,■ and s^(-iε), so that K = ■ s^(-iε), s is a characteristic length and ε is the oscillatory index. ■ has the same dimension as the classical stress intensity factor and characterizes the interface crack tip field. That means a criterion for interface cracks may be formulated directly with■, as Irwin(ASME J. Appl. Mech. 24:361–364, 1957) did in 1957 for the classical fracture mechanics. Then, for an interface crack,it is demonstrated that the quasi Mode I and Mode II tip fields can be defined and distinguished from the coupled mode tip fields. Built upon SIF-based fracture criteria for quasi Mode I and Mode II, the stress intensity factor(SIF)-based fracture criterion for mixed mode interface cracks is proposed and validated against existing experimental results. 展开更多

A Hamiltonian-based analytical method is used to study the mode Ⅲ interface cracks in magnetoelectroelastic bimaterials with an imperfect interface. By introducing an unknown vector, the governing equations are reformulated in sets of first-order ordinary differential equations. Using separation of variables, eigensolutions in the symplectic space are obtained. An exact solution of the unknown vector is obtained and expressed in terms of symplectic eigensolutions. Singularities of mechanical, electric, and magnetic fields are evaluated with the generalized intensity factors. Comparisons are made to verify accuracy and stability of the proposed method. Numerical examples including mixed boundary conditions are given. 展开更多

By using the complex variable method, the closed form solutions are obtained. The stress distribution in the immediate vicinity of the rigid line is examined. The corresponding formulation between dissimilar isotropic materials and in homogeneous anisotropic medium can be derived from the special cases of those in the present paper, and the limit conditions are in agreement with the previously known results. 展开更多

It was aim to investigate the interfacial microstructure and shear performance of Ti/Cu clad sheet produced by explosive welding and annealing. The experimental results demonstrate that the alternate distribution of interfacial collision and vortex of flyer layer forms in the interface a few of solidification structure. TEM confirms that the interfacial interlayer contains obvious lattice distortion structure and intermetallic compounds. It interprets the explosive welding as the interfacial deformation and thermal diffusion process between dissimilar metals. The interfacial shear strength is very close to the Cu matrix strength, which is determined by the mixture of the mechanical bonding and metallurgical bonding. Several cracks exist on the shear fracture owing to the intermetallic compound in the interfacial solidifi cation structure and also the probable welding inclusion. 展开更多

The simulation presents the strain–stress relationships, the ideal tensile strengths, and the fracture processes of three phase interfaces. The results show that the α/α and α/β interfaces have larger tensile strength than that of β/β interface. The fractures of both α/α and β/β interfaces are ductile fractures, while the α/β fractures abruptly._Further analyses show that the fracture of the α/β occurs at the interface. 展开更多
