Newly-proposed anode-free zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs)are promising to remarkably enhance the energy density of ZIBs,but are restricted by the unfavorable zinc deposition interface that causes poor cycling stability.Herein,we report a Cu-Zn alloy network-modulated zinc deposition interface to achieve stable anode-free ZIBs.The alloy network can not only stabilize the zinc deposition interface by suppressing 2D diffusion and corrosion reactions but also enhance zinc plating/stripping kinetics by accelerating zinc desolvation and nucleation processes.Consequently, the alloy network-modulated zinc deposition interface realizes high coulombic efficiency of 99.2%and high stability. As proof,Zn//Zn symmetric cells with the alloy network-modulated zinc deposition interface present long operation lifetimes of 1900 h at 1 m A/cm^(2)and 1200 h at 5 m A/cm^(2),significantly superior to Zn//Zn symmetric cells with unmodified zinc deposition interface(whose operation lifetime is shorter than 50 h),and meanwhile,Zn3V3O8cathodebased ZIBs with the alloy network-modified zinc anodes show notably enhanced rate capability and cycling performance than ZIBs with bare zinc anodes. As expected, the alloy network-modulated zinc deposition interface enables anode-free ZIBs with Zn3V3O8cathodes to deliver superior cycling stability, better than most currently-reported anode-free ZIBs.This work provides new thinking in constructing high-performance anode-free ZIBs and promotes the development of ZIBs. 展开更多

TiO2deposited at extremely low temperature of 120°C by atomic layer deposition is inserted between metal and n-Ge to relieve the Fermi level pinning. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy indicate that the lower deposition temperature tends to effectively eliminate the formation of GeOxto reduce the tunneling resistance. Compared with TiO2deposited at higher temperature of 250°C,there are more oxygen vacancies in lower-temperature-deposited TiO2, which will dope TiO2contributing to the lower tunneling resistance. Al/TiO2/n-Ge metal-insulator-semiconductor diodes with 2 nm 120°C deposited TiO2achieves 2496 times of current density at-0.1 V compared with the device without the TiO2interface layer case, and is 8.85 times larger than that with 250°C deposited TiO2. Thus inserting extremely low temperature deposited TiO2to depin the Fermi level for n-Ge may be a better choice. 展开更多

Laser cladding deposited Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy universally shows more complex microstructures, each of which has significant effect on mechanical properties. Of particular α/β interface phase has been observed in this paper under certain conditions. It demonstrates that the influence of the α/β interface phase on the tensile properties is closely associated with dislocations and twin substructure through comparison experiments. The results show that the α/β interface phase hinders dislocation motion and decreases effective slip length. In addition, the twin substructure has been activated in the α/β interface phase during tensile process and has acted somehow like grain boundaries. Therefore, the strength and the work-hardening rate of the laser cladding deposited Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy have been significantly improved due to the dynamic Hall-Petch effect. Besides, the α/β interface phase leads to more uniform dislocations distribution, which implies that relative lower local concentrated stress will be produced along the α/β interface phase or colony boundary after the same amount of plastic deformation. Moreover, the twinning-induced plasticity effects in the α/β interface phase further increase the plastic deformation capacity. These results in higher elongation for the laser cladding deposited Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy. It can be concluded that the current work suggests an effective method to simultaneously improve the strength and plasticity of laser cladding deposited Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy based on the α/β interface phase. 展开更多

We report an in situ scanning tunneling microscopic study of surface morphology changes in Au(111) electrode in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (EMITFSI) ionic liq- uid containing LiTFSI salt. The surface processes can be divided into three stages: In the first stage, a re- duction wave of dissolved oxygen in the ionic liquid appears at approximately 2.0 V and a network structure covers the surface afterward; in the second stage at around 1.5 V, reduction of trace water is initiated and a surface film containing lithium hydroxide is formed; in the third stage, as potential is further decreased to 0.85 V, decomposition of the EMITFSI ionic liquid occurs, which is accompanied by lithium underpotential deposition and Au-Li alloying. In this stage, the surface experiences significant morphological changes with formation of many clusters on the surface, and even- tually becomes electronically less conductive. This unique surface film is understood to be the initial stage formation of a solid electrolyte interphase on gold, which may be a common feature in ionic liquids in the presence of lithium salt. 展开更多

Printing of metal bottom back electrodes of flexible organic solar cells(FOSCs) at low temperature is of great significance to realize the full-solution fabrication technology. However, this has been difficult to achieve because often the interfacial properties of those printed electrodes, including conductivity, roughness, work function, optical and mechanical flexibility, cannot meet the device requirement at the same time. In this work, we fabricate printed Ag and Cu bottom back cathodes by a low-temperature solution technique named polymer-assisted metal deposition(PAMD) on flexible PET substrates. Branched polyethylenimine(PEI) and ZnO thin films are used as the interface modification layers(IMLs) of these cathodes. Detailed experimental studies on the electrical, mechanical, and morphological properties, and simulation study on the optical properties of these IMLs are carried out to understand and optimize the interface of printed cathodes. We demonstrate that the highest power conversion efficiency over 3.0% can be achieved from a full-solution processed OFSC with the device structure being PAMDAg/PEI/P3 HT:PC61BM/PH1000. This device also acquires remarkable stability upon repeating bending tests. 展开更多
