Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of partial arc volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in lung cancer stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), as well the volumetric and dosimetric effects of different internal ...Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of partial arc volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in lung cancer stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), as well the volumetric and dosimetric effects of different internal target volume (ITV) definitions with 4D CT. Methods: Fourteen patients with primary and metastatic lung cancer underwent SBRT were enrolled. Full and partial arc VMAT plans were generated with four different ITVs: ITVall, ITVMIP, ITVAIP and ITV2phases, representing ITVs generated from all 10 respiratory phases, maximum intensity projection (MIP), average intensity projection (AIP), and 2 extreme respiratory phases. Volumetric and dosimetric differences, as well as MU and delivery time were investigated. Results: Partial arc VMAT irradiated more dose at 2 cm away from planning target volume (PTV) (P = 0.002), however, it achieved better protection on mean lung dose , lung V5, spinal cord, heart and esophagus compared with full arc VMAT. The average MU and delivery time of partial arc VMAT were 240 and 1.6 min less than those of full arc VMAT. There were no significant differences on target coverage and organ at risks (OARs) sparing among four ITVs. The average percent volume differences of ITVMIP, ITVAIP and ITV2phases to ITVall were 8.6%, 13.4%, and 25.2%, respectively. Conclusions: Although partial arc VMAT delivered more dose 2 cm out of PTV, it decreases the dose to lung, spinal cord, and esophagus, as well decreased the total MU and delivery time compared with full arc VMAT without sacrificing target coverage. Partial arc VMAT was feasible and more efficient for lung SBRT.展开更多

Methods: 32 nude mice of...Objective: To evaluate the effect of magnetic nanoparticle containing 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) targeting in treating chol- angiocarcinoma based on internal magnetic fields built inside the tumor. Methods: 32 nude mice of BABL/C bearing ectopic tumor were built by subcutaneouly injecting cholangiocarcinoma cell line QBC 939. Three weeks after tumor inoculation, the animal models were divided equally into four groups at random including: (a) group A, consisting of internal magnetic field built by magnetic biliary stent wires inserted into tumor tissue and receiving magnetic nanoparticles containing 5-FU administered via tail vein injection at 250 mg/kg for consecutive five days; (b) group B, receiving placebo (sodium chloride); (c) group C, receiving pure magnetic biliary stent wires without the applying of magnetic nanoparticles; (d) group D, consisting of external magnetic fields and the same treatment of magnetic nanoparticles containing 5-FU as group A. The tumor volumes were measured every 3 days, totally six times from treatment started. Tumor tissues were observed by transmission electron microscope when the nude mice were killed after the observation period. Results: The experimental group (group A) showed significantly therapeutic efficacy. Moreover, apoptosis of tumor cells could be easily detected in this group. Conclusion: Magnetic particles containing 5-FU combined with internal magnetic field can effectively treat cholangiocarcinoma, and its therapeutic efficacy is better than that of the traditional method based on external magnetic fields.展开更多

Furthermore, the corresponding integrated ...The target thickness for nitrogen was determined from the beam energy loss in HIRFL-CSRe during the experimental study of the K-REC process in 197 MeV/u Xe54+-N2 collisions. Furthermore, the corresponding integrated luminosity of (1.15±0.06) x 10^30 cm-2 was obtained. As an independent check on the energy-loss method, we have also determined the integrated luminosity by measuring the produced X-rays from the K-REC process with a known differential cross section. The values of (1.12±0.06) x 10^30 and (1.09±0.06) x 1030 cm-2 were obtained by using two high-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors which were oriented at 90% and 120%with respect to the beam path, respectively. The consistent results confirmed the feasibility of the energy-loss method, which may have an important impact on future internal target experiments at HIRFL-CSRe.展开更多

This could make the pellet facility work in a stable condition. A fluid dynamic simulation was carried out for the pellet speed, and it was found that the maximum speed for the target pellet may be restricted to about 100 m/s even if all working parameters were set to their optimal values.展开更多
