Some considerations are presented on the so called “ontological interpretations” of quantum physics, starting from a remark by Werner Heisenberg on the relation between the probabilistic character of quantum states ...Some considerations are presented on the so called “ontological interpretations” of quantum physics, starting from a remark by Werner Heisenberg on the relation between the probabilistic character of quantum states and the Aristotelian notion of “potency”. We show how an interesting revival of the original idea by Heisenberg can be found in the recent scientific and epistemological literature, in order to solve some paradoxical aspects emerging within some of the usual interpretations of quantum physics. Moreover a way seems to be open in order to rediscover the role of Aristotelian-Thomistic notion of “analogy” of “causal agents” operating even in the physical world. The “Potency-Act” interpretation of quantum physics appears aside the role of the Aristotelian notion of “Form” when it is compared with the recent notion of “information” in the context of the physics of “complex systems” and the biology of “living systems”.展开更多

A further examination of this subject, in particular to what extent an ordinal interpretation is useful for recurrence sequences, is needed. Hilbert favored an interpretation of the natural numbers that placed their ordinal properties prior to their cardinal properties [1] [2]. The author examines ordinal uses of the integers in number theory in order to discuss the possibilities and limitations of this approach. The author hopes this paper will be useful in clarifying or even correcting some matters that were discussed in his paper of January of 2018. I was trained informally in philosophical realism, and while I think idealism too has a place, at this time in my life I believe that the weight of evidence and usefulness is more on the side of philosophical materialism. I hope this discussion will help supplement for my readers the material in Number in Mathematical Cryptography. I still maintain that a lack of clarity on these matters has hindered progress in cryptography;and it has taken time for me to better understand these things. I hope others who have interest and ability will assist in making these matters clearer. My intention was to work in pure mathematics, and the transition to an applied mindset was difficult for me. As a result, I feel most comfortable in a more middle-of-the road attitude, but have had to slowly move to a more precise analysis of the physical quantities involved. The professionalization of translation has been discussed by many scholars in recent years,which has inspired the intense discussion of translation ethics.Drawing upon Chesterman’s models on translation ethics,this p...The professionalization of translation has been discussed by many scholars in recent years,which has inspired the intense discussion of translation ethics.Drawing upon Chesterman’s models on translation ethics,this paper intends to examine the ethical problems in MTI students’escort interpreting for Vanuatu Sport Technical Assistance Project for the Pacific Mini Games in 2017 and China-ASEAN International Capacity Cooperation Forum in 2016.The data was collected by the methods of participant observation and informal interviews in the process of the two interpreting projects,especially the six-month assistance project.The ethical problems in the escort interpreting and the reasons that caused the problems were analyzed through case study.It is found that the major ethical problems that occurred are related to the ethics of communication,the norm-based ethics,and the ethics of commitment.These ethical problems were mainly related to the student escort interpreters’language proficiency,professional qualities,and intercultural/interpersonal communication competence.Some solutions are suggested based on Chesterman’s models on translation ethics.It is hoped that the research findings can provide some references to the implementation of the similar interpreting programs in the future,and enhance interpreting teaching and training programs.展开更多

Although this interpretation is superficially similar to a part of so-called Copenhagen interpretation, we show that it has a merit to be applicable to both quantum and classical systems.
