An investigational study of non-English majors＇ international communication competence and countermeasures

Based on the data collected from the questionnaires, this paper discusses various problems concerning intercultural communication competence the non-English majors at ＂high-leveled, applicationoriented＂ level faced in Shanghai Institute of Technology. Besides, it analyzes the necessity and feasibility in developing intercultural communication competence, and puts forward some constructive suggestions to enhance intercultural communication competence in adult English teaching.

Investigation and Study on the Alien Species in Aquaculture in the Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River

The lower reaches of the Yangze River is one of the central areas of freshwater shallow lakes in China and has the diverse climates with both warm temperate zone and sub-tropical zone,which makes it become one of the best areas for aquaculture,so nearly all of the aquaculture species from the world can live in the area.It is important for perfecting alien aquaculture species information data-base and environmental risk assessment system to investigate and study the aquaculture alien species in the lower reaches of the Yangze River.The results showed that the number of aquaculture alien species in the lower reaches of the Yangze River is 45 species,including 33 species of fishes,4 species of shellfish,7 species of crustaceans and 1 species of amphibian.Most of alien species are from America and the main transmitting way is intentional introducing.

CSHRS Carries Out Investigations and Study in Shandong Province

Aten-man investigation and study team from the China .Society for Human Rights Studies （CSHRS） toured Shandong University and its human rights （HR） study institute and Shandong Academy of Social Sciences from December 6-8, 2009. Headed by CSHRS president Luo Haocal, the team, which included CSHRS vice-president and secretarygeneral Dong Yunhu and vicesecretary general Chen Zhengong, heard a report by leaders of Shandong University and the Shandong Academy of Social Science on the progress of their HR research and inquired into the research contingent, orientation of study, research achievements and organizational setup.

Prevalence of sensitivity to cockroach allergens and IgE crossreactivity between cockroach and house dust mite allergens in Chinese patients with allergic rhinitis and asthma

Background Cockroaches are an important indoor allergen source causing allergic rhinitis and asthma. The aim of this study was to investigate the cockroach prevalence in mainland of China and the cross-reactivity of IgE between cockroach and house dust mite allergen in Chinese patients.Methods The cockroach sensitization pattern was based on a skin prick test （SPT） obtained from a national multicenter prevalence study, in which 6304 patients from 25 allergy centers across China participated. Factors, including different regions of China, age, gender and the correlations between the American and German cockroaches and house dust mite Der p were investigated. Eighteen out of 1236 clinical sera from south China were selected to perform the cross-inhibition assay between house dust mites and cockroaches.Results Totally 25.7% of patients were SPT positive to the American cockroach （Periplaneta Americana, Per a） and 18.7% SPT positive to the German cockroach （Blattella germanica, Bla g）. The prevalence of positive cockroach SPT was higher in southern than in northern China, higher in adults than in children, and higher in males than in females.Patients had relatively low levels of cockroach SPT reactions, mainly class 1 or 2. Of the SPT positive cockroach patients,88% were also SPT positive to house dust mite （Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Der p）. An IgE cross-inhibition study confirmed that Der P sensitization could cause false positive SPT reactions against cockroach.Conclusions A relatively high prevalence of cockroach sensitivity was found in mainland of China. However, a cross-inhibition study showed that only a small number of patients appear to have Bla g and/or Per a as primary sensitizing source. The importance of cockroaches as a risk factor for sensitization and triggers of allergic symptoms in mainland of China needs to be further investigated.

Beyond an Elegant Political Slogan： Reading the Mass Line through the Lens of Methods

The mass line （ML） played a significant role in the history of the Communist Party of China （CPC） and was incorporated into the CPC＇s Constitution as the fundamental line for all work. However, to most people, the ML would sound more like an elegant political slogan than an effective method for solving problems. This paper interprets the essence of the ML as a philosophical method of knowing the world, a political method of leadership and a practical method of solving problems. In the new era of rule of law, the ML is also considered as a potential approach to democracy in China. The paper also criticizes the problems of the ML and proposes some suggestions against the comparison with the Western political systems. The paper will provide readers with a more comprehensive understanding of the ML, and the political philosophy in China.
