Unfortunately, hydrogen peroxide can be decomposed underalkaline condition, especially when transition metalions exit. Experiments show that the valence oftransition metal ion is also responsible for thedecomposition of hydrogen peroxide.Iron ions are present in two oxidation states, Fe2+ andFe3+. They are both catalytically active to hydrogenperoxide decomposition. Because Fe3+ is brown, itcan affect the brightness of pulp directly, it can alsocombine with phenol, forming complexes which notonly are stable structures and are difficult to beremoved from pulp, but also significantly affect thebrightness of pulp because of their color.Sodium silicate and magnesium sulfate, when usedtogether, can greatly decrease hydrogen peroxidedecomposition. The optimum dosage of sodiumsilicate is about 0.1% (on solution) for Fe2~ and0.25% (on solution) for Fe3~. Adding chelants such asDTPA or EDTA with stabilizers simultaneously canobviously improve pulp brightness. For iron ions, thechelate effect of DTPA is better than that of EDTA.Under acidic conditions, sodium hyposulfite andcellulose can reduce Fe3+ to Fez+ effectively, and pulpbrightness is improved greatly. Adding sodiumthiosulfate simultaneously with magnesium sulfate, sodium silicate, and DTPA to alkaline peroxidesolution can result in higher brightness of pulp.pH is a key parameter during hydrogen peroxidebleaching, the optimum pH value should be 10.5-12.展开更多

Among Mn (II), Mn (III)and Mn (IV), Mn (II) is not catalytically active indecomposing hydrogen peroxide. However, both Mn(113) and Mn (IV) are, and Mn (III) has a strongereffect than Mn(IV).In addition, we also studied the practical methods todecrease the Mn-induced decomposition of hydrogenperoxide. The results showed that sodium silicate andmagnesium sulfite in combination can effectivelydecrease the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. The optimum dosage of sodium silicate was about0.5% (on solution). Adding chelants such as DTPAor EDTA simultaneously with stabilizers candecrease hydrogen peroxide decomposition. For Mn(IV), the EDTA is more effective than DTPA.Adding sodium thiosulfate simultaneously withmagnesium sulfate, sodium silicate and DTPA toalkaline peroxide solution can result in more residualhydrogen peroxide, and a higher pulp brightness.展开更多

Th e complex of aluminium ion with 5,8 di Br HB is a new water soluble perylene quinonoid derivative with enhanced absorption over HB in the phototherapeutic wi ndow (600-900 nm). Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurement and 9,10 diphenyl anthracene bleaching methods were used to investigate the photosensiti zing activity of [Al 2(5,8 di Br HB)Cl 4] n in the prese nce of oxygen. Singlet oxygen, superoxide anion radical, hydroxyl radical can be generated by [Al 2(5,8 di Br HB)Cl 4] n photosensit ization. The results showed that the production of hydroxyl radical ( · OH) by [Al 2(5,8 di Br HB)Cl 4] n photosensitization comes from the Fenton Haber Weiss reaction and the decom position of DMPO 1O 2 adduct. Formation of H 2O 2 as one of main intermedi ates in the photogeneration of hydroxyl radical was detected by using the cataly zed oxidation of the DPD reagent by the POD enzyme method. Moreover, the experim ents of EPR spin trap and catalase enzyme excluded the effect of organoperoxide on DPD oxidization. These results further support the proposed mechanism of · OH formation.展开更多

The determination of AA mainly by cation-exchange chromatography was also investigated. Reproducible and reliable techniques for quantification and identification of AA usually require derivatization. However, techniques such as AA analyzer are composed of cation-exchange chromatography and other components can sideline the derivatization with significant accuracy. The present analysis revealed a higher concentration of essential amino acids especially acidic AA, Glu and Asp and basic AA, Arg than other AA in macadamia protein. The study constitutes first report of use of bubble chart for evaluation of AA and explaination of AAS. The results may elaborate that the degradation of AA of macadamia protein for extraction of pH 11 is caused by the impact of pH. Moreover, the nutritional values of AA present in macadamia protein could change for the better by adjusting pH of extraction.展开更多

The results show that under low cyanide concentration, gold cyanide process is controlled by CN- transfer, while at higher cyanide concentration, there forms passivation on gold surface. Therefore, chemical oxidation of gold in cyanide solution of higher concentration is controlled by surface reaction. Small quantity of additions of mercury ions bring about great increases in anodic gold dissolution rate, decreases the passivation and reduces the equilibrium activated energy. In addition, they also markedly change the effect pattern of cyanide concentration. Mercury ions show positive effects on cathodic reduction of oxygen and raise the rate of electrochemical step of the cathodic reduction of oxygen. Addition of a certain amount of hydrogen peroxide is confirmed to be an effective way for intensification of cathodic process on gold electrode. Active potential range and current peak on anodic dissolution are enlarged when being co-intensified with Hg^2+ and hydrogen peroxide. Co-intensifying effect may be obtained and gold from gold concentrates. gold leaching rate is considerably increased on cyanide leaching of展开更多

The monitored HAAs included monochloroacetic acid, monobromoacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, dibromoacetic acid and trichloroacetic acid. The method employed a sodium hydroxide eluent at a flow rate of 0.8 ml/min, electrolytically generated gradients, and suppressed conductivity detection. To analyze the HAAs in real hospital wastewater samples, C18 pretreatment cartridge was utilized to reduce samples' turbidity. Preconcentration with SPE and matrix elimination with treatment cartridges were investigated and found to be able to obtain acceptable detection limits. Linearity, repeatability and detection limits of the above method were evaluated. The detection limits of monobromoacetic acid and dibromoacetic acid were 2.61 μg/L and 1.30 μg/L, respectively, and the other three acids are ranging from 0.48 to 0.82μg/L under 25-fold preconcentration. When the above optimization procedure was applied to three hospital wastewater samples with different treatment processes in Tianjin, it was found that the dichloroacetic acid was the major compound, and the growth ratios of the HAAs after disinfection by sodium hypochlorite were 91.28%, 63.61% and 79.50%, respectively.展开更多

Acidosis occurs in the subretinal space (SRS) under pathological conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Although it is well known that many transporters in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells can maintain pH homeostasis efficiently, other receptors in RPE may also be involved in sensing acidosis, such as acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs). In this study, we investigated whether ASICla was ex- pressed in the RPE cells and whether it was involved in the function of these cells. Real-time RT-PCR and Western blotting were used to analyze the ASICla expression in ARPE-19 cells during oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide (H202). Furthermore, inhibition or over-expression of ASICla in RPE cells was obtained using inhibitors (amiloride and PCTxl) or by the transfection of cDNA encod- ing hASICla. Cell viability was determined by using the MTT assay. The real-time RT-PCR and West- ern blotting results showed that both the mRNA and protein of ASICla were expressed in RPE cells. In- hibition of ASICs by amiloride in normal RPE cells resulted in cell death, indicating that ASICs play an important physiological role in RPE cells. Furthermore, over-expression of ASICla in RPE cells pro- longed cell survival under oxidative stress induced by H2O2. In conclusion, ASICla is functionally expressed in RPE cells and may play an important role in the physiological function of RPE cells by pro-tecting them from oxidative stress.展开更多

METHODS: Unstripped rat distal colon segments were mounted in Ussing chambers. Potential difference, calculated resistance and short-circuit current across unstripped colon segments were monitored with a dual voltage/current clamp. Paracellular permeability was assessed by measuring the mucosa-to-serosa flux of a fluorescent probe (FITC). RESULTS: Luminal exposure to hydrogen peroxide transitorily stimulated chloride secretion without altering barrier function. This stimulatory effect could be blocked by basolateral atropine but not indomethacin. The cysteine and methionine oxidizing compounds, phenylarsine oxide and chloramine T respectively, mimicked the effect of H2O2, except for a drop in transcolonic resistance after 30 min. In contrast to the observed stimulatory effect on basal secretion, cAMP-stimulated electrogenic ion transport was blunted by luminal H2O2. However, the Ca^2+- activated response remained unchanged. CONCLUSION: H2O2 may be an important selective modulator of intestinal ion and water secretion in certain pathologic conditions such as inflammation or ischemiareperfusion by multiple mechanisms.展开更多
