Rats were randomly divided into hypertonic saline resuscitation (HTS), normal saline resuscitation (NS) and sham groups. HO-1 mRNA, protein expression and apoptosis were evaluated in organs. In the HTS group, significant difference was noted in HO-1 protein in small intestinal mucosa and liver compared with the NS and sham groups, and in HO-1 mRNA in liver and kidney compared with the sham group. The apoptosis of small intestinal mucosa, liver, heart, and lung was significantly lower in the HTS group than that in the NS group. In this study, small volume resuscitation with HTS can efficiently up-regulate the expression level of HO-1 in small intestinal mucosa and liver, which may be one of the mechanisms alleviating organ damage.展开更多

Although there are various causes for this condition, reduced balance is the problem most frequently expressed by these patients. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of Extensor Muscle Sling Isometric and Isotonic (EMSII) exercises of lower limbs on female basketball players suffering from PFPS. Method: A total of 30 participants, all female basketball players suffering from PFPS, with an average age of 20 - 30 years, were divided into two isometric/isotonic and control experimental groups. Eight weeks of isometric and isotonic exercises were recommended to the participants with a focus on EMSII exercises of lower limbs in two four-week phases. The control group received no specific exercise program. Pre-test and post-test included the use of Stork balance test (SBT) and Y Balance tests (YBT) to assess the static and dynamic balance, respectively. Results: After eight weeks of performing separate isometric and isotonic exercises on the mentioned muscles, and according to the results of the pre-test, a significant increase was observed in the results of both static and dynamic balance tests (P Conclusion: EMSII exercises of lower limbs showed a significant effect on the increased balance. Recommended exercises can be suggested according to the type of exercises as a factor for increasing static and dynamic balance.展开更多

CIN correlates with the later cardiovascular events, the rising mortality risks and the increasing one-year target vessel revascularization. At present, few articles reported on whether the incidence of CIN induced by isotonic and hypotonic contrast agent after PCI is different or not. Objectives To investigate the different effect of isotonic and hypotonic contrast agent in inducing CIN in patients with coronary artery disease after PCI. Methods We enrolled 355 patients with coronary artery disease who undertook PCI from January 2007 to December 2008 as subjects. Renal functions of all 355 patients were normal. Patients were randomly divided into isotonic group and hypotonic group. Concentrations of serum creatinine (SCr) were measured before, 48~72 hours and 7 days (if needed) after PCI. The glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated according to MDRD formula. The incidence of CIN was defined as the concentration of SCr ≥0.5 mg/dL(44.2 μmol/L). Hemodialysis rates and mortality were recorded in the hospital. Results There was no significant difference in the basline eGFR (79.52±5.28 vs 81.03±6.09, P0.05), dosages of contrast agent (125.68±15.88 mL vs 123.51±16.38 mL, P0.05), eGFR of 48-72 hours after PCI (70.26±9.48 vs 69.06±9.59, P0.05) and incidences of CIN (5.56% vs 5.78%, P0.05) between the two groups. eGFR and concentrations of SCr 7 days after PCI showed no significant difference between the two groups (P0.05). No patient was dead or needed hemodialysis in hospital. Conclusions The effect of isotonic and hypotonic contrast agent in inducing CIN in patients with coronary artery disease after PCI has no difference.展开更多

And the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of human epidermis, plays a central role in the interaction between the cutaneous tissue and the external environment. The horny layer, and more generally the whole skin layers, avoid the penetration of harmful exogenous agents, produce molecules named anti-microbial peptides which impact the composition of the cutaneous microbiota, regulate the internal corporal temperature, avoid the water loss from the inside of the body and constitute an incredible efficient anti-oxidant network. Nevertheless, nowadays, the skin is more and more solicited by the different elements of the cutaneous exposome, including atmospheric pollution and solar radiations, which can cause a dramatic acceleration of the skin ageing process. As a consequence, due to the multifunctional protective role of the skin, during the recent decade the cosmetic industry invested massively in the development of new raw materials and end-products (dermo-cosmetics) able to preserve an optimal state of the skin regarding the external environment. Based on their physical-chemical properties thermal spring waters, which are extremely rich in inorganics ions, are interesting and powerful candidates to be part, as integral component, of new efficient dermo-cosmetic formulations dedicated to protect the skin from the external stimuli. The aim of the present work was to investigate and characterize the activity of Jonzac thermal spring water on the skin. Using different models, we proved for the first time that Jonzac thermal spring water reinforces the barrier function of the skin by modulating the expression of key markers including filaggrin and human beta defensin 2 on ex vivo human skin. The ex vivo and in vivo hydration activity, by Raman spectroscopy and corneometry respectively, has been also demonstrated. We have also shown that Jonzac thermal spring water ameliorates significantly the cutaneous microrelief in vivo. To conclude, we characterize the soothing effect of Jonzac thermal spring water by the analysis of histamine release in Substance P treated skin explants and by measuring the redness of the skin following UV exposure of the skin in vivo. We observed that both parameters decreased following a preventive treatment of the skin with Jonzac thermal spring water. Taken together our results indicate that Jonzac thermal spring water is a promising and powerful dermo-cosmetic which can be used to preserve an optimal state of the cutaneous tissue.展开更多
