This study conducted a 16-week comparative experiment with 160 students from Jinan No.5 Middle School in Shandong Province as the experimental subjects.During the implementation of the experiment,the subjects were divided into two groups:an experimental group and a control group.The experimental group was subjected to physical exercise interventions using sports game teaching methods during physical education class,while the control group followed traditional physical education teaching methods.The results showed that the psychological health status of the students in the experimental group was significantly better than that of the control group after the experiment.The application of sports games helps to improve the psychological health of middle school students in the course of physical education,promoting a positive and forward direction in student psychology and is an effective means to enhance the psychological health level of middle school students. 展开更多

Methods A total of 628 high school students and 709 college students were surveyed with anonymous self-administrated questionnaire in Shanghai. Results The median knowledge scores of students from colleges and high schools were 58 and 39, respectively. Those who had surfed the Internet, had browsed websites on reproductive health, or had communicated sex-related issues with fathers/classmates/friends had more reproductive health knowledge. In addition, the percentage of college students who had surfed the Internet, had browsed websites on reproductive health or had communicated sex-related issues with classmates/friends was higher than that of high school students. Conclusion The knowledge scores of respondents were rather low. Compared with the high school students, the college students had more reproductive health knowledge and sought the knowledge more actively. 展开更多

The aims of the present study were to group junior high school students according to factors influencing their snack choice and identify differences between the characteristics and snack choice behaviors of the groups. An anonymous self-report questionnaire was administered to 1936 students (13 - 15 years old) in eight junior high schools in Tokyo, Japan. The students responded to the Snack Choice Questionnaire (SCQ) as well as questions concerning snacking behaviors, lifestyles, and demographics. Cluster analysis was applied to sort the sample according to SCQ scores. Each cluster’s characteristics were examined by gender using the χ2 test or the Kruskal-Wallis test with a Bonferroni adjustment. Participants were divided into four groups: high in all factors, low in all factors, low value in health, and value in health. The “value in health” group was composed of more girls than boys and the “low in all factors” group had fewer girls than boys. Those in the “high in all factors” and “low value in health” groups indicated that they consumed more snacks. Moreover, gender differences were revealed. By assessing the SCQ prior to providing nutrition education, we can obtain valuable information to make nutrition education planning. 展开更多

No distinct gender difference is found in coping style. There are different degrees of correlation between coping style and mental health. Remarkable grade difference is shown in the factor of appealing in coping style and the three factors of compulsion, anxiety and mental imbalance in mental health. Assessment of Environmental Health Knowledge, Attitude and Behavior among High School Students in a USA Southeast Texas School District

This cross-sectional descriptive study assessed general environmental health literacy among students focusing on their knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors regarding the environmental health, stewardship, and sustainability, using a questionnaire consisting of 35 core questions from the Centers for Diseases Control (CDCs). Students (N = 185) from three high schools in the district were asked through their class teachers to voluntarily complete the questionnaire. Results indicated that about 41% (n = 77) of the students lacked knowledge regarding potential sources of radiation exposure and 70% (n = 133) lacked knowledge regarding radon gas being the number one risk factor for lung cancer among non-smokers. Additionally, the ANOVA test indicated significant knowledge differences among school location. Students in school #1, located in the most affluent area, had significantly higher knowledge scores (M = 4.39) than school #2 located in a moderately affluent area (M = 3.50). Furthermore, we found significant differences in ethnicity on the environmental health attitude of the high school students. Black students reported lower positive environmental health attitude (M = 29.86) than White students (M = 32.63), Hispanic students (M = 32.33) and Asian students (M = 33.84). These findings demonstrated knowledge deficiency in some key areas in environmental health particularly the environmental diseases and conditions caused by manmade hazards such as pesticides, chemicals, radiation, air, water, and soil pollution. Targeted educational interventions to increase awareness and understanding of health effects, exposure to environmental hazards and carcinogens as well as risks associated to direct exposure as in this study, radon and radiation, should be provided to high school students. Practical education through tours where students can observe directly and participating in laboratory experiments could empower the students to translate this knowledge into positive environmental health behaviors and practices now and in the future. 展开更多

The subject of cervical cancer prevention will be examined. <strong>Method:</strong> Articles from the ICHUSHI Web version 5, CiNii, and PubMed databases for the period from 2009-2019 were used. Search terms used were cervical cancer, HPV/human papillomavirus, prevention, public awareness, and education.<strong> Results:</strong> 17 articles (9 Japanese and 8 English) were analyzed. The majority of students had heard of cervical cancer but did not know of the link between it and HPV. Vaccinated individuals were significantly more likely to have deeper knowledge regarding cervical cancer and HPV. Various factors affect the vaccination rate. These include knowledge of HPV and cervical cancer, age, ethnicity, the organization or location which administers the vaccine, how to breach the subject, finances, and the opinions of friends and family. In particular, consultations with parents lead to mothers recognizing the importance of the vaccine. By way of educational intervention, opinions have grown more positive about advancing awareness, being vaccinated, and having cervical cancer screenings for the future.<strong> Conclusion: </strong>The prevention of cervical cancer requires support and fostering the judgement based on sufficient awareness and adequate education. What we need is educational intervention rooted firmly in the current societal climate aimed not only at students, but at their parents as well. 展开更多

Objective:To study the health information assistance needs of junior high school students in 8 different regions of Guangdong Province in a cluster,to understand the current situation of junior high school students'health information assistance needs,and to collect feasibility data for hospitals and schools to jointly promote the healthy development of students.Methods:In June 2019,a group of junior high school students from 8 different regions in Guangdong Province[678 students(in 2 towns),352 students(in 2 counties and prefecture-level cities),and 1098 students(in 4 provincial-level cities)]were selected in a group.A questionnaire survey was conducted by 2128 people,the results of the questionnaire survey were collected,and statistical analysis was performed.Results:Of the 2128 junior high school students in 8 different regions,only 52.07% had confidence in their health,and there were no regional differences.Health information for students seeking professional medical assistance includes:1578 person-times(74.15%)of nutritional diets,1084 person-times(50.94%)to eliminate tiredness,1190 person-times(55.92%)to improve sleep quality,1002 person-times(47.09%)to reduce anxiety,making him happier and stronger 1164 person-times(54.70%).Students in different regions asked for help on how to make their hearts happier and stronger.The results suggest that provincial and county-level students have greater needs than urban students.Conclusion:The results of this research show that junior high school students in different regions of Guangdong Province have insufficient awareness of health,and there is a large demand for various health help information,and the focus is on prevention.It is of practical significance to strengthen and meet the health information needs of junior high school students. 展开更多

Objective To study the relationship between contraceptive knowledge, cognition and behaviors among vocational high school students. Methods A cross-sectional survey was anonymously self-administrated by way of computer to all the 1st graders' among three vocational high schools in a district of Shanghai. Four cognition indicators, including perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived risks and self eJficacy were applied according to Health Belief Model. Results The percentage of respondents who reported ever sexual practices and contraceptives use at first sex was 7.01% and 56.64% respectively. Condom (58. 70%) and oral contraceptive pills (27.78%) were used by the majority. Main reasons for non-use were "shy to buy it" (26.53%) and "partner don't want to use any" (18.37%). Proportion of respondents who ever had sex regarded withdrawal and rhythm as effective were 68.35% and 68.42% respectively. Proportion of respondents having sex knew "If a person was infected with STDs, he/she might not have noticeable symptoms" were 22.86%. Proportion of respondents who reported non-use of contraceptives at first sex considered that "infrequent intercourse could not cause a girl pregnant even she had experienced her menstruation" were 40.63%. Proportion of respondents who had ever used condom got full score of knowledge on "how to correctly use condom" were 23,26%. Perceived risks were poorest among four cognition indicators. High level of contraceptive knowledge was connected with high rate of contraceptives use at first sex, whereas high level contraceptive cognition was connected with high rate of contraceptive use both at first and recent sex. Conclusions It is important to provide youth-friendly services as well as message on contraceptives among vocational school students. 展开更多

Objective To evaluate the impact of sex and reproductive health education using lifeplanning skills training among senior high school students in a rural county. Methods The study was conducted in three senior high schools of Shangcai County with comparable socio-cultural, economic, and demographic characteristics, two as intervention sites and one as the control. A three-month life-planning skills training course was conducted among all grade one students in the intervention schools. The baseline survey was conducted prior to the intervention, once again three months after the intervention was initiated. Data were collected through questionnaires, FGDs and 1Dis to evaluate the effect of the intervention program. Results After the intervention, the median score of reproductive health knowledge was higher in the intervention group (55.66) than that in control group (38.68). Students from the intervention group were also more comfortable with their developmental changes which were going through, In the end line survey, 92.70% of the students in the intervention group suggested that reproductive health education should be carried out among all middle school students in Shangcai County. Multivariate analysis also indicated that peers and family had a significant effect on students' sex-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviors. Conclusion Sex and reproductive health education via provision of life-planning skills training can significantly increase students' sex and reproductive health knowl- edge and was welcomed by students, teachers and parents. 展开更多

Objective:The study aims to understand the level of perceived stress and related influencing factors among the urban and rural senior high school students in China and their channels of coping with the stress,when they shifted from home-based online learning to on-campus learning after their return to school during the post-Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic period.Methods:From January to March 2021,the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale(SSCPs-14)and a self-designed questionnaire were used for the online survey among the senior high school students from six secondary schools(three from cities and three from counties)in three provinces of China(Shandong,Shanghai and Sichuan)who were selected by convenient sampling.Descriptive analysis,t-test,χ^(2)test and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the data.Results:A total of 1,462 respondents were enrolled in the study,of which 41.66%were urban students and 58.34%were rural ones.Their overall average score of CPSS-14 was 21.69±7.65.The respondents reported the following influencing factors of perceived stress,including"Change of their learning and sleep schedule(OR=1.426,95%CI:1.056~1.927,P=0.021),"Communication with their family members(OR=2.820,95%CI:1.971~4.034,P<0.001)and"The family’s financial status"(OR=1.675,95%CI:1.181~2.376,P=0.004).Their coping strategies when facing with the stress were ranked from high to low frequency as follows:"Talk to friends(34.63%)","Talk to parents(26.88%)","Seek help from teachers(14.53%)","Deal with it on my own(13.21%)","Seek help from a psychological counsellor(7.95%),"Others(1.42%)"and"Ignore the problem(1.39%)".Rural students with three and more than three coping channels(44%)were more than urban students(36%),with a statistically significant difference between the two(χ^(2)=10.878,P=0.012).A higher proportion of respondents(49.4%)with fewer coping channels reported high level of perceived stress,compared with those with multiple coping channels(33.4%).The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(χ^(2)=55.956,P<0.001).Conclusion:Senior high school students were faced with the stress brought about by the shift from the on-line learning to on-campus learning after their return to school during the post-COVID-19 pandemic period.The change of their learning and sleeping schedule,communication with family and their family’s financial status were the main influencing factors of senior high school students'stress after their return to school.Senior high school students with more coping channels had lower level of stress.Therefore,it is suggested that stress relief measures should be taken to promote the mental health of senior high school students in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period. 展开更多

Objective To understand the status of reproductive health knowledge for junior high school students in Guangzhou city and provide the base data for reproductive health education. Methods A total of l 210 students including 657 boys and 553 girls aged 12 ~15 years were surveyed with anonymous self-administrated questionnaire. The students were from a middle school in suburb of Guangzhou city. The questionnaire contained basic concepts of reproduction, love, sex, contraceptives, abortion and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Analysis consisted of descriptive statistics and Chi square tests for differences between boys and girls. Results The students mostly had experienced menarche (94%) or first spermatorrhea (83.6%). About 58. 4% of students just knew little about process of puberty, fertilization, and contraception. Far more boys than girls considered that the effect of abortion on physical injury was harmless (30.4% and 9.6%, P〈O.O01). More than 60% of respon- dents knew the route of transmission of STDs well but were poor understanding of adverse impact of STDs. The majority of the students did not consider sexual relation- ship acceptable at their age, a viewpoint that was more strongly held by girls (61.6%) than boys (45.1%) (P〈0.001). Just 35.5% of boys would refuse when the lovers required to have a sex activity, far less than girls (76.1%) (P〈0.001). The rate of sex intercourses among students was 5%, and a slightly higher proportion (46%) had never used contraception among those who had sexual activity. The demands of students on reproductive health were mainly on how to deal with the relationship with lovers (56. 0%), knowledge on sexual health and menses (41.7%), sex moral knowledge (48.3%), contraception (45.0%), and preventive measures of STDs/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) (47. 0%). Conclusion The reproductive health knowledge for the students was at very low level There were some differences on the knowledge mastered by boys and girls while the sexual opinion of boys was more open than girls. Smoking habits are thought to be strongly impacted by family relationships. In this study, we looked specifically at family relationships with the aim of finding effective anti-smoking education measures. We surveyed 290 university students in order to establish their current smoking habits, along with their family relationships from primary and junior high school until now. The results showed that students with one or more smokers in their family were clearly more likely to smoke. Furthermore, a poor relationship between the student’s parents and a poor relationship with his/her father are believed to have a causal relationship with the student smoking. In the section in which students were asked how often they were told to study, we found that students who smoked had been instructed to study a significantly higher number of times. It is believed that the stress experienced by students frequently told that they must study during their elementary or junior high school years leads to a tendency to smoke. Among the group of non-smokers, we found many who ate breakfast with their parents during elementary or junior high school, along with many who regularly went on holidays with their families. The lack of these things appears to distance parents from children and may be a factor regarding why children end up smoking.
