The work has been performed in cooperation with the department of radiology of Gustave Roussy Institute in Paris (Villejuif). It provides a case-based reasoning system to support diagnosis by finding similar cases to the case at hand. The outcome of the research effort is both conceptual and practical. It has also a methodological dimension. Conceptually, the paper contributes to the breast cancer diagnosis domain by defining an ontology and a conceptual model for representing cases which are generic solutions reusable in many different settings. It contributes to the case-based reasoning (CBR) field in two ways (1) by defining a case representation model, and (2) a retrieval algorithm which exploits the case representation model structure to find similar cases by aggregating similar cases. Last but not least, the research has a methodological contribution by which the retrieval algorithm is embedded in a broader process perspective including the capture of the actual case, the case-based reasoning related to this case and the support to decision-making by adapting the retrieved case. An interesting aspect of the process model is its intentional dimension which makes possible the representation of different ways to achieve the result. The research will be illustrated by a case study based on real clinical cases (n = 40) of patients provided by Dr. Corinne Balleyguier.展开更多

The study described the multi-sectoral initiatives done to protect the Dupinga watershed. By using Community Based Forest Management (CBFM) as theoretical framework and analytic descriptive method of research, issues and concerns related to watershed protection are discussed. The study argued that the multi-sectoral collaboration of the Local Government Unit of Gabaldon, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Peoples Organizations, Non Government Organizations (NGO) and Community Organization is a CBFM in progress. Alternative source of income and community tourism may strengthen and sustain the multi-stake-holders collaboration existing in the area while capacity building program for community participation and forest management may provide insights for a sustainable watershed protection and management.展开更多

However, in reality, the situation is different. The growing importance of public participation seems essential for the implementation of sustainable forest management. The aim of this study is to assess the implementation of a theoretical concept closely related to SFM, integrated land and resource management (ILRM). This Canadian concept aims to integrate many forest functions using participatory tools. Using semi-structured interviews with experts, we clarify our theoretical concept and adapt it to reality. Our results show that better communication between stakeholders is necessary. It is also important to increase the flexibility of the timber harvest system and adapted forest zoning should be considered. There is a growing consensus that having cooperative relations with other organizations, building strategic supply chain relations, and establishing appropriate subsidiary-parent company relations are major components of a competitive strategy to increase organizational productivity and profitability. In this regard, we present samples collected from 60 Japanese companies, and provide a case study on the use of inter-organizational management control systems (MCSs) by a large Japanese manufacturing company. The findings show how a company can design its organizational structure in order to realize its strategies and achieve its goals. Further, the case study shows the importance of management control factors that are associated with activities in inter-organizational value chain relations. In particular, high management maturity in information management, cultural management, and structural management are identified as key factors for the integration of strategy with sustainable inter-organizational management.展开更多

Three recently rotated executives with different leadership styles from the parent or subsidiary companies are chosen and studied. Findings show that for the visionary leadership executive, his vision incentive has a limited effect on knowledge transfer, but organization culture, especially the decentralization management culture, can greatly enhance the knowledge transfer process. For the paternalistic leadership executive, authoritarianism helps him manage the management team in disarray; while benevolence and morality improve the knowledge transfer standard. Lastly, for the servant leadership executive, his leading by example and altruism behaviors contribute to a higher level of knowledge transfer among TMT.展开更多
