The stress before, and after, drilling the hole was compared in terms of stress concentration and stress gradient. The optimum drilling location and diameter were studied through analysis of different locations and diameters. By analyzing the effects of flank holes and an additional hole, drilling advice was proposed and fatigue testing of the cracks in a steel bridge deck with a crack stop hole was conducted. The results show that the stress at the crack tip with a crack stop hole decreased, and the major principal stress around the hole was distributed accordingly. The optimum position of the crack stop hole centre was where the centre of the crack stop hole was situated behind the crack and the hole edge coincided with the crack tip. Therefore, hole diameters larger than 8 mm, or those weakening the section by 10%, were suggested as the best diameters. In terms of multi-hole crack stopping, a flank hole was not recommended. The optimum horizontal position of flank holes was at a distance of 1/4 of a single hole diameter from, and in front of, the single hole. Besides, the experiment showed that crack stop hole could only prevent cracks from growing and had no influence on crack growth rate.展开更多

The results showed that, with increasing Ni content, the mechanical properties of the bridge steel were markedly improved, the welding parameters were satisfactory at room temperature, and the corrosion resistance was enhanced. When the Ni content was low(≤0.42 wt%), the crystallization process of the corrosion products was substantially promoted, enhancing the stability of the rust layer. When the Ni content was higher(~3.55 wt%), the corrosion reaction of the steel quickly reached a balance, because the initial rapid corrosion induced the formation of a protective rust layer in the early stage. Simultaneously, NiO and NiFe_2O_4 were generated in large quantities; they not only formed a stable, compact, and continuous oxide protective layer, but also strongly inhibited the transformation process of the corrosion products. This inhibition reduced the structural changes in the rust layer, thereby enhancing the protection. However, when the Ni content ranged from 0.42 wt% to 1.50 wt%, the corrosion resistance of the bridge steel increased only slightly.展开更多

This paper presents a novel steel damper for bridges. The damper employs steel plates as energy dissipation components, and adopts a vertical free mechanism to achieve a large deformation capacity. Quasi-static tests using displacement-controlled cyclic loading and numerical analyses using a finite element program called ABAQUS are conducted to investigate the behavior of the damper, and a design methodology is proposed based on the tests and numerical analyses. Major conclusions obtained from this study are as follows: (1) the new dampers have stable hysteresis behavior under large displacements; (2) finite element analyses are able to simulate the behavior of the damper with satisfactory accuracy; and (3) simplified design methodology of the damper is effective.展开更多

Besides, the experiment showed that crack stop hole could only prevent cracks from growing and had no influence on crack growth rate.

文摘The corrosion resistance of weathering bridge steels containing conventional contents of Ni(0.20 wt%, 0.42 wt%, 1.50 wt%) and a higher content of Ni(3.55 wt%) in a simulated hot and humid coastal-industrial atmosphere was investigated by corrosion depth loss, scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical methods. However, when the Ni content ranged from 0.42 wt% to 1.50 wt%, the corrosion resistance of the bridge steel increased only slightly.

文摘Isolation bearings and dampers are often installed between piers and superstructures to reduce the seismic responses of bridges under large earthquakes. Major conclusions obtained from this study are as follows: (1) the new dampers have stable hysteresis behavior under large displacements; (2) finite element analyses are able to simulate the behavior of the damper with satisfactory accuracy; and (3) simplified design methodology of the damper is effective.

文摘Various kinds of deflection characteristics on the steel cable-stayed bridge(Nanjing No.3 Yangtze River Bridge)are investigated by different mathematical statistical methods.Firstly, via Pearson correlation coefficient calculation,it shows good consistency between the adjacent measuring point of side span or middle span.Secondly, taking mid-span deflection as an example, the correlation analysis of deflection and temperature is conducted. They are synchronous via cross correlation coefficient calculation but not completely linear and a"hysteresis loop"phenomenon of three stages is formed. The fitting result on the monitoring data at day time is consistent with the numerical value through the application of unit temperature difference between the cable and girder and the positive temperature gradient of girder in the finite element model. And the temperature effect is considerable.Vehicle loads effect is obtained from wavelet analysis. The extracted curve can indirectly reflect the change of traffic loads. Finally, the structural damage is analyzed through the trend fusion on the deflection, cable force and visual inspection from 2006 to 2015.Relevant conclusions can provide a basis for management departments to carry out special detection.

文摘Due to the complex structure and dense weld of the orthotropic steel bridge deck(OSBD),fatigue cracks are prone to occur in the typical welding details.Welding residual stress(WRS)will cause a plastic zone at the crack tip.In this paper,an elastoplastic constitutive model based on the Chaboche kinematic hardening model was introduced, and the extended finite element method(XFEM)was used to study the influence of material elastoplasticity and crack tip plastic zone on the law of fatigue crack propagation.By judging the stress state of the residual stress field at the crack tip and selecting different crack propagation rate models to investigate the crack propagation law when plastic deformation was considered, the propagation path and propagation rate of fatigue crack of the OSBD were obtained. The results show that, whether the residual stress field is considered or not,the plastic deformation at the crack tip will not cause the obvious closure of the fatigue crack at the U-rib toe during the crack propagation process, but will significantly affect the crack propagation path. When material plasticity is considered, the propagation angle of fatigue crack at the U-rib toe basically remains unchanged along the short-axis direction of the initial crack, but is going up along the long-axis direction, and the crack tip plastic zone inhibits the propagation of the crack tip on one side.Compared with linear elastic materials, the crack propagation law considering material plasticity is more consistent with that in actual bridge engineering. In terms of the propagation rate,if the residual stress field is not considered, the fatigue crack propagation rate at U-rib toe with plasticity considered is slightly higher than that without plasticity considered, because plastic deformation will affect the amplitude of energy release rate. When considering the WRS field, the fatigue crack propagation rate at U-rib toe is increased due to the combined actions of plastic deformation and stress ratio R.
文摘The end diaphragm of bridges are normally designed to resist lateral seismic forces imposed on the superstructure in earthquake prone regions.Using ductile diaphragms with high deformation capacity could reduce the seismic demands on the substructure and prevent costly damage under strong ground motions. The end diaphragms of steel tub girder bridges with high lateral stiffness and dominant shear behavior have a potential to be used as ductile fuse elements. In this study,a steel plate shear diaphragm(SPSD)is introduced as an external end diaphragm of tub girder steel bridges to reduce the seismic demands imposed on the substructure.Quasi static nonlinear analyses were conducted to evaluate responses of sixteen SPSDs with different boundary conditions, aspect ratios and diaphragm plate thicknesses. Moreover, nonlinear time history analyses were performed using three different ground motions corresponding to DBE and MCE level spectrums.Cyclic and time history analyses proved the proper behavior of SPSD and its efficiency to reduce seismic demands by more than 25%.
文摘This study is concerned with the diagnosis of discrepancies in a steel truss bridge by identifying dynamic properties from the vibration response signals of the bridges. The vibration response signals collected at bridges under three different vehicular speeds of 10 km/hr,20 km/hr,and 30 km/hr are analyzed using statistical features such as kurtosis, magnitude of peak-to-peak,root mean square, crest factor as well as impulse factor in time domain, and Stockwell transform in the time-frequency domain. The considered statistical features except for kurtosis show uncertain behavior. The Stockwell transform showed low-resolution outcomes when the presence of noise in the recorded vibration responses. The elimination of noise and extraction of meaningful dynamic properties from the vibration responses is done by applying a new method which comes from the fusion of Hilbert transform with Spectral kurtosis and bandpass filtering. The outcomes obtained from Hilbert transform processed residual signals which are further filtered using bandpass filter show more robustness and accuracy in characterizing bridge modal frequencies from the noisy vibration responses. The proposed method produces a high-resolution frequency response which can unveil the joint discrepancy in the bridge structure.

文摘X-style arch bridge on high-speed railways(HSR)is one kind of complicated long-span structure, and the track-bridge interaction is essential to ensure the safety and smoothness of HSR.Taking an X-style steel-box arch bridge with a main span of450 m on HSR under construction for example,a new integrative mechanic model of rail-stringer-cross beam-suspenderpier-foundation coupling system was established, adopting the nonlinear spring element simulating the longitudinal resistance between track and bridge. The transmission law of continuous welded rail(CWR)on the X-style arch bridge was researched, and comparative study was carried out to discuss the influence of several sensitive factors, such as the temperature load case, the longitudinal resistance model, the scheme of longitudinal restraint conditions, the introverted inclination of arch rib,the stiffness of pier and abutment and the location of the rail expansion device.Calculating results indicate that the longitudinal resistance has a significant impact upon the longitudinal forces of CWR on this kind of bridge, while the arch rib’s inclination has little effect.Besides, temperature variation of arch ribs and suspenders should be taken into account in the calculation.Selecting the restraint system without longitudinally-fixed bearing and setting the rail expansion devices on both ends are more reasonable.
文摘In the city of Gdansk in Poland,in the very center of the Baltic capital,on 17th of June 2017,a new draw footbridge was ceremoniously opened to the public. The Olowianka footbridge represents the long-time much needed link between the highly tourist-visited historical old town and Ołowianka Island, where further cultural, tourist and recreation facilities are located. The bridge spans a very busy navigable channel of the Motława River, leading inward towards other city channels,a harbor for many tourist ships and the Gdansk Marina.Being the main navigable entrance to the city center, the Motława is constantly under nautical traffic,so the Ołowianka footbridge operates 24/7,according to a 30-min schedule. The Ołowianka footbridge is an extraordinary acquisition for the city of Gdansk, which immediately became a new landmark and much more in the already very picturesque historic city center. Not just its design, but also its carefully chosen location and its realization at the right moment, has made this bridge indispensable to the inhabitants, visitors and the administration of the city of Gdansk, decisively contributing to further development in the Ołowianka Island area and its surroundings.
